  • Out of all his wives, Katherine of Aragon was the only one who could truly punk him every time. Haha! Get it KOA!

  • If henry thoguht it was icky that he married his brother's wife, why didn't it bother him for 20 years?

Also the Pope dipensed with it so there was no problem. Also his father was to blame. After Arthur died, their father didn't want to give the dowry back to KofA's father so he arranged for her to marry his next son. It wasn't her fault she did as she was told. Henry didn't seem to have a problem marrying Anne even though he'd fucked her sister, mary. What a hypocrite.

  • @DramaInPajamas one reason. He wanted a son. The last time a woman inherited the English throne (Empress Matilda), it started a civil war. It was believed (and since proven to be wrong many times over) that women weren't capable of ruling. So when it became clear that KofA was past childbearing age, Henry looked at his Bible and found his excuse to divorce her. He thought (or wanted to think) that KofA lied to him about being a virgin when she married him.

  • She is by FAR the best wife. If Anne hadn't gotten her head chopped off and if Elizabeth hadn't become Queen, nobody would give her the time of day. Elizabeth's greatness had nothing to do with Anne. Anne wasn't very nice, to be honest.

  • I don´t understand how can anyone put Anne before Catherine in any shape of form. Catherine is a true royal, born and raced. Anne was the daughter of a nobody hungry for power;. she was selfish, mean and classless. I don´t get why she is more regarded than Catherine

  • @Boleyn96019 -.-' Hello there? Of course it's so easy for you to write things like that because you did not have to live at that time, but things went quite different back then compared to today! "it's that simple"??? Really? NO, IT IS NOT! You better go back and learn (like reading proper literature!) how it was back then.

  • @Boleyn96019 It's really not that simple whatsoever. Katherine was royal before she ever came to England. She had to hold herself in a dignified and noble manner. Agreeing to the divorce would be basically saying that she had sex with Arthur and then lied about it!! Also, it was against her beliefs..she held strong for what she believed in..didn't take the easy road out because she was strong. Plus, Mary would not be heir regardless because she would be a bastard. See? not so simple.

  • @Boleyn96019 Women of that era were forced to live through the hypocrisy laws of men. To submit to his ruling tt their years of marriage was unlawful was the FINAL straw for Katherine. She had to defend her honour & Mary's. She knew that Kings are capable of breaking their promises the moment they get what they wanted and things are never that simple with a man of Henry VIII's character.

  • @Boleyn96019 she loved him, who wouldn't fight to keep their marriage intact? That and if she agreed to the divorce, Mary would become illegitimate and therefore be unable to become queen.

  • WOOP WOOP! Go Katherine!! XD

  • She was a good queen a bad wife

  • @LaylaTudor 'a bad wife'? Why? I'd rather say that Henry was a bad king. She was loyal and devoted to him while he treated her so bad, still she would not leave because she loved him. And what did he do? Taking mistresses and banished her from court, trying to get rid of her.

She stands for what she believes in. What an inspiring woman and Queen!

  • @LaylaTudor What? Why was she a bad wife? I think Henry was a bad husband having mistresses and then denying his own daughter.

  • SHE IS A definite MILF...

She is a true woman, and most of the women today are simply the Anne Boleyn. Katherine of Aragon i could love and respect, ANNE IS simply another woman i would sleep with until i would get bored of her.

  • Best moment of season 1!!!

  • Ouch Chihwawa.

  • she did this accent SO well! and her castellan spanish is perfect too!

  • Henry was afraid of Catherine. She had a lot of allies in Europe and in England. She was a clever politician in her own right and Henry treated her so poorly. She deserves honor, even today.

  • That's right Henry your wife is a G and will not be treated otherwise. Wth is Henry angry at Wolsey it's his freak fault. Your wife is of Catsille blood...a strong and proud house of nobility.

  • @vivelhistoire many historians agree that Henry didn't kill Katherine because she was from royal birth it would be taboo to kill her. Also she was too popular it would cause civil unrest, she was too old and pious to be accused of adultery that would just cause anger and distrust because many in court still loved her. Anne had no royal blood or breeding, she was always unpopular and had mor enemies then allies it was easier to get rid of her

  • What I am wondering is, why couldn't he simply get her executed like he did for Anne? All he had was to make up a cheating plot that people would believe, even the Spanish (it wasn't so difficult to blame a woman for anything back then)... Instead of keeping her alive, create strain with Catholics, and tormenting their daughter Mary (who then would become quite the tyrant, if I may say...). It's not that I condone executions or I don't like Katherine (although I find her a bit annoying), but...

  • @vivelhistoire if he killed katherine like anne, he would have spain to answer to. it would of caused a war.

  • @IcelolliVP Makes loads of sense... unless he framed her for adultery. I mean, the Spanish weren't that much respectful of women and she was a political toy for them... And since they were deeply religious, they'd have believed him and supported him. Look at Anne Boleyn: even today, some people still believe she's some cold-blooded whore who broke the king's heart after he nearly broke off with Rome and got his country into war to be able to marry her.

  • Maria Doyle Kennedy was one of the best Katherines. I have to say 'The Tudors' may be historically inaccurate at times it is more so and truer to the story than 'The Other Boleyn Girl'. At least they got he speech right!

  • Comment removed

  • @silasreade MDK is quite good actress always admired her historicol acting, spetialy KOA,she plays her as powerfull quite aware of her linige as daughter of Isabella of Castille, yet humbol, loveing and with compassion something COA was,so there isent for any reson COA got a good reputation all over

  • How simbolic! K left by the main door ang greated by her beloved people.... Henry by the back door as a coward dog!

  • Katherine was a true woman and the true queen of England.

  • is like see a Rockstar, i love queen catherine of aragon.

  • What a scene! What a woman... =)

  • I think that every single one of the actors on The Tudors was incredible and it was an amazing show but this scene will always stand out to me. It was amazing! I even love the noblemen sitting in the box, Boleyn, Suffolk, and Norfolk as she made her speech. They looked so uncomfortable and not only was she putting it to King Henry's conscious but theirs as well.

Plus, Henry looks so devasted and guilt-ridden, it's not something that was common on this show.

  • Marie did a great job playing Katherine and the gown Katharine wears at the trial is my favorite she wore in the series.

  • Why everybody gets sorprised when she get in kneels???

  • @ALFREDOPOKEMON because she is the Queen, and she is humilliating herself. Truly admirable!

  • That is the most BA thing. Go Katherine, show them who was still the flippin' Queen of England!

  • The "judges" looked like fools and Henry had guilt written all over his face. Way to go, Katherine.

  • I cannot see why people favour Anne over Katherine... I really can't.

Anne Boleyn was severely disappointed when she gave birth to a girl; Elizabeth. And she might have (most likely) gone as far as to use Elizabeth as a means to save her own neck!

Whereas Katherine of Aragon loved her daughter and fought to keep her title as queen so that Mary might remain legitimate. For why else would she have stayed when her royal family in Spain would have welcomed her back with open arms?

  • @gOtHiCxAnGeLxox

I suppose because many consider her to be more physically attractive than Katharine, and only for that reason. People these days are more swayed by physical attractiveness than virtue of character. I favor Katharine completely, but also believe that Anne did not deserve to die the way she did.

  • @PiperFreeze06 - I think that Anne got exactly what she deserved. All that scheming and manipulation was bound to catch up with her at some point. Though, despite my apparent hatred for her, I don't believe for a moment that she was covered in warts, or had six toes on one foot or committed adultery with her brother.

  • @gOtHiCxAnGeLxox

You may be right. I didn't really approve of her manipulations or her ways either, but if it had not been her that had helped wreck the marriage between Henry and Katharine ( I say "helped" because Henry was already doing a good job of it on his own), it would have been someone else. I also don't believe any of the trumped-up charges against her. I just meant that she didn't deserve to die for something she was falsely accused of.

  • He's pissed off, obviously.

  • Maria has an amazing voice! Love her acting aswell :)

  • While I highly respect Katharine of Aragon, she helped corrode the Catholic Church in England. If she loved the church as much as she claimed, then why didn't she sacrifce her marriage to save her religion? She may well have been cannonized if she did.

  • @MrTylerS123 Sacrifice her marriage to save her religion? In Catholicism we are thought to sacrifice, but only to a certain extent. If Katherine of Aragon sacrificed her marriage to save her religion, that gives such a bad image of the Church, it shows that the God has no authority. Katherine wanted to show to king Henry that although he is King, there is someone of a higher power who no matter what the outcome is, will be the last one to judge. Katherine wanted to test his fate against God.

  • The people loved her!!! Queen katherine was a strong woman

  • Jonathan Rhys Meyer is so fuckin HOT

  • katherine is a rockstar

  • wow defended herself to henry and dident get beheaded lol.

  • Wow what a great moment!!!

  • Ah, finally, here comes her moment! I love this scene, and I like the way they portrayed it in this series far more than other renditions I have seen. Maria is so convincing as KAtherine, portraying a love for Henry and a pride and knowledge of her own heritage and position, which would come with all the history. Katherine here is so digninfied, like she is described in history. She's fighting for her own and her daugher's future in this scene, and everything her life has been about.

  • Katherine is true inspiration to women everywhere!

  • I love this woman !!!! She was the model Queen, an inspiration and she endured so much for nothing, her only fault was loving a man like that

  • @angeldream2 i admire katherine of aragon, almost as much as i do anne boleyn. they were both so strong, courageous, intelligence, and full of conviction. i honestly think that if circumstances were different, katherine and anne would have liked each other a great deal for their similarities. alas, it was both their curse that they married to a cowardly, low creature such as henry viii. if anything, he is the real villain in the series.

  • @uglyduckling89 Yes, I totally agree that KoA, AB and the rest of the wives deserved a better husband than that fatty piggy tryant!!!

  • @JuzTudor70AD Actually Henryis said to have been very handsome in his young days. By the time he married Ann he was probably fat and ugly though.

  • @uglyduckling89

I agree about Henry, but I don't think Katherine would have liked Anne. Katherine, although educated, strong and intelligent, was very aware of her own position as queen and the obligations which came with it. She ignored things where necessary (e.g. Henry sleeping around) and is described as maintaining composure in public. Anne is described as having more of a temper, and was very outspoken at sometimes inopportune moments, considering the times she lived in.

  • @uglyduckling89

I also think that they had different beliefs about appropriate behaviour, and that certgain status barriers would have kept them from getting along even if it hadn't been about Henry marrying Anne. They may both have had convictions, but they were very divergent.. I don't think Katherine would have liked Anne's lack of humility (as she would have perceived it). However, I agree that both were very persistent, although I admire Katherine far more.

  • His face at 3:10 is PETRIFYING!! I could never have stood up to him, and I doubt a lot of people could either. That's why Katherine of Aragon was such a brave and wonderful woman (:

  • Pure regal ownage!

Maria Doyle Kennedy ROCKED as Queen Katherine. The real Queen Katherine kicked ass with this speech.

  • one of my favorite scenes. even though i like anne boleyn too, i know that if i was alive back then i would be in full support of katherine. She was a class act, a real regal lady, a true princess.

    btw-terrific acting.

  • Henry VIII was the most bastard of all the kings that have reigned in Europe for the last 20 centuries

  • Back then, a man sleeps around, and it's ok. A woman does it and she is called a whore. It's a double standard that still exists today.

  • I like Catherine of Aragon and I liked Jane Seymour.. I liked this scene so much because both Maria and Johnathan are awesome. You can really see the conflict in his eyes cause he truly did love Catherine.. This is I think prob one of the few times in the series that he seems really moved other than Janes death.

  • Katherine was a class act until the end. God rest her soul.

  • Anne was not a slut, Henry screwed around too, dumbass. Do you if Anne slept around with other men, huh, do you, you weren't there. They all were guilty, except Catherine, she was a true wife, she looked the other way when Henry was being a slut, screwing around, he was not a good husband.

  • Why don't they make movies about Katharine and Henry instead of that slut Anne?

  • @evaperonfan I don´t know. For some reason, people like sluts.

  • @evaperonfan you are the best I've ever read on here... for 2 reasons... One of them is your commentary... the second one .. your username: EVITA HASTA SIEMPRE!

  • Comment removed

  • @evaperonfan there is no evidence that she was promiscuous, how can you be against anne for it being rumoured that she cheated on henry when henry openly cheated on her billions of times? stop calling women sluts

  • She will always be remembered for her truthful words.. by the words she really said.. we can really indicate what women she really was.. and PLEASE dont blame Katherine that her daughter did not become a successfull monarch.. it is not katherine's fault. Katherine had all the aspects of a great true QUEEN of any dominion.

  • the idea that Katherine had red hair comes from Sittow's portrait, doesn't it? But the fact that Catherine of Aragon was portrayed there was simply due to the fact that her necklace had "K A" on it, and because of the manner of dress...so we never know ... much is based on speculation. Just something that came to my mind when I read a comment about the choice of actress.

  • sweet, brave, just and beloved by all his people.

Queen of England's best and an amazing woman

  • I love Catherine of Aragon! Long Live the Queen!

  • excelent video!!!!!!!! Catherine is my favourite queen!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Maria Doyle Kennedy was so believable as Katherine! I love this scene and I'm glad you posted it.

  • 2:31 - WOW!!! Listen to how beloved she is. Amazing woman!

  • yes, but Catherine had red hair and not black.

  • Is that supposed to be spanish accent? Wow. Interesting.

    Excelent acting, btw.

  • This actress is amazing. Henry's movement had no grounds to begin with because the papal dispensation allowed the two of them to marry regardless of whether or not she had consummated her first marriage. Her mother, Isabella made sure of that. R.I.P. Katherine of Aragon, the true queen of England.

  • Allright, Catherine! If anything, she should have been the one putting Henry and Anne (along with at least three other women) on trial for adultery and treason!

  • who were the other women?

  • Btw, I can be wrong, but it seems to me that GoddessofHyrule gave Henry minus one thousand points, not one thousand. Just noticed that there was seven thumbs down.

  • yes, I did. That was me on my other account. I meant minus one thousand, not positive one thousand. I hate Henry.

  • Henry is stupid and two-faced. He is sooo worried that he is "living in a sin" because he has married his dead brother's wife, but it isn't a sin that he sleeps with every woman who catches his eye. And in next episode he is shouting "so you were a f------g virgin! That's not the point!" when he can't invent anything else. So pathetic. He should be grateful that such a fantastic woman like Catherine still wants to be his wife.

  • way to go my queen of england!

  • Katherine was the only henrry's wife that talk him on the face and leave him in silent... she was she was the daughter of kings..

  • Amazing..

  • "and whether or not it is true... I put it to your conscience!"

  • May Catherine of Aragon rest in peace. This actress did a phenomenal job on the series. Jonathan did a great job too. He can portray emotions so well without even speaking. Brilliant scene.

  • Magnifica la Reina Catalina de Aragón. Te querré siempre.

  • I love Queen Katherine D'Aragon.

  • I loved this scene. Maria knocked it out of the ballpark and then some. I really wish she had been nominated for the GG or the Emmy for season 1, she was outstanding.

I love how she portrayed Katharine's dignity, particularly in this scene.

  • Go Queen Katherine!

    This scene ROCKS.

  • I love this video,Queen Catherine is truly an admirable woman. Henry 0 points.

  • Henry got owned!!!

  • LOL! Katherine-1, Henry-0

  • Eventually, yes. I was referring to this scene, and this scene only.

  • Catherine was brilliant. That was a master stroke, she really pulled the rug under their feet, though I read that she was advised by wise men of law as to how to proceed.

  • This is one of my fav scenes of all time in the Tudors.

  • love it

  • Thank you so much for posting this clip!
