  • saw these guys in 2007 <3 fuckin they were awesome & this was really helpful <3

  • thanks ive been looking everywhere for somthing like this

  • I knew this stuff when i was in 1-2 grade :D

  • Amon Amarth > other music

  • As with most all things gentile the Runes have been' fucked with' by the so called chosen race. Blank rune = Odin ? You'll want to check that one 8)

  • The fucking music is a damn distraction from the information on the video...

  • Danke aus Moskau

  • Oh, I almost forgot that Sumir runes show significant similarity with the runes of Vinca culture prospered in the Carpatian Basin in the middle of Europe, which are even older than Sumir runes.

  • The title is too simple....Which runes??? It sounds like it would be the only runic alphabet. There are a few dozen runic alphabets that were used during the ancient times, and this one not even the oldes but rather one of the youngest and it was copied from older runes partly. Most of the ancient alphabets can be traced back to the Phoecinian which comes from aramic, which comes from egyptian, which probably comes from Sumir. Only turkic nations had a few dozen runic aphabets alone....

  • tutu

  • @asianhordes

In the past there was a unified, high level culture on the Earth. Ancient runic letters can be found in many nations. The Hungarian runic script is still used to describe the current Hungarian speech. Please watch these videos:

  • Come back to the old ways my people to a religion of our kin an fathers not one from a foreign land and people, that tells us to love the ones who seek to kill us.From Oregon 14/88

  • @dirtyer76 Til Valhalla!

  • @surfkost are you talking about the names like Fehu, Sol, and Turisaz? Those ones?

  • the thorn rune is in halloween 6 but before i ever saw that movie I had a necklass with that rune on it

  • the blank rune was created in the 80's. Never used before that; dont use it in readings.

  • does it bother nobody, that nobady knows the real names of the runes in the older futhark. a whole magic industry is build on these names and meanings but really nobody have found a prove for those names. the names today coming from norwegian and icelandic medieval runes which are 1000 years younger! --- oh, but im sure, there are people out there, that can feel the real name and talking to old death vikings in english about it...

  • I feel a strong connection to runes, but don't understand what the connection to the "Norse" culture might be. lol

  • Freya was a warrior goddessa Valkyrie, and also the goddess of sensual love also known as the goddess of war and death. right to claim half the souls of the bravest warriors who died in battle. going onto the battlefield, she'd gather them up take them back w/ her 2 spend the after-life in her home in perpetual rest recreation. The other half of the heroic warriors, who belonged to Odin, would b gathered up by the Valkyries and taken to Valhalla where they were able to live in comfort & honor.

  • @Mikukonyrka gods, not God.

  • Amon amarth is a fucking awsome band and it is very appropriate for this! Thank you! Vallhall awaits me! lol

  • And u put this vid to heavy metal why?

  • @LokiTrickaras Coz the theme of all this band's songs is Norse mythology.

  • @LokiTrickaras & DKDamilos

That was the exact reason. Eventually when I get the time I hope to put this video to a softer song for those who'd enjoy that more.

  • @NiziceProductionz U kddin??/ The song rocks!

  • @LokiTrickaras it is not heavy metal, it is melodic death metal. the band is Amon Amarth form Sweden. the song is Vallhall Awaits Me. if you dont like it press mute. i find the band very relevant to this topic of runes because most of Amon Amarth's songs are based on Norse mythology including legends, stories, references to the gods and many references to the runes themselves.

heavy metal is more like bands like Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Dio, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith and Alice Cooper :)

  • They work if you believe in them.

The nordic priests and rune carvers used rhe runes for booth writing AND for "magic".

Second, learn the origin of the runes, this video is not it thou it is a nice try.

Go to your local library and look up norse or nordic runes, and learn.

    "Knowledge is an easy burden".

  • wuts up with the noobie metal song...noob voice lol

  • @redeljann Dude, it's a great band. Just say you dont like it! Not everyone has the same taste, but don't call a noob such a band!

  • @redeljann STFU not all people like the same i got a quite variety of music taste mut mainly Metal. So don´t call this noobie mel song because you don´t like it all got different taste.

  • Ive been studying the runes and Odinism for almost ten years now. Our ancestors did believe that the runes had magical properties. They were more to elders than just writin word. In old belief Odin himself sacrificed himself to gain the knowlage of the runes, so if they were just for writing why did such an important God go to such great lengths to gian their knowlage? Do the runes really have magical properties or just valuable lessons to teach is still a debate today.

  • how do u sacrifice yourself and gain anything?

  • ummm runes had nothing to do with magic and they were a writen language that wer inscribed on tablets to tell the storie of a(a) viking/ anglo-saxons great deed in order to make his name immortal

  • Cool, thanks. But I had to turn the sound down ! Because I'm an old fart.

  • @hartnell That's Amon Amarth, if I'm correct - a very above-average band IMHO. But I'm 'olde-skool' too, I mellow out with Miles Davis.

  • Runescape, sucks, and so do you for mentioning it.

  • Just wondering but do you actually believe runes originated from runescape?

  • please kill yourself,

  • My name is actually Rune :-)

  • Then congrats on having a rare name!

  • @NiziceProductionz Rune isn't a rare name, atleast not where I live(Norway)

  • I thought if you master the runes you become as Odin (Wotan), that's the rune is blank.

  • well i think this is a very helpful video!! i have been searching everywhere for these rune meanings. thank you.

  • nice song

  • I have heard that the "blank rune" doesn't actually exist and the perception that it does exist is due to a mistranslation

  • so what do you write out for odin's rune?

  • Ansuz.

    Frith.

  • Good vidio very informative.

  • i can type in runes on my computer, it is cool. i taught myself to read and write this and me and my friends pass secret notes and stuff. it is fun.

  • how do you do that? please, teach me how, dude

  • The video was informative, but I think it could have used a different music, this one just made it hard to focus.

  • Great Video.... viz

  • so how are sentences made out of there runes? it seems imposable because each rune represents a meaning not a letter of the alphabet

  • They represent something yes, but you could also write with them using their unique pronunciation. It was usually up to the seers and volvas to interpret their metaphoric meanings. :)

  • I like this.Good music too.I saw some different interpretations than I am familiar with but who says I am an expert. For instance,I use Dagaz sometimes as a visualization on me to cause invisibility to my "enemies"-made me get home safe after a party once when there were lots of police (back in my partying days). Thanks for posting this.

  • the rune names are abit off but they have very simular names..i wount down the miss naming keep it up.

  • Well, there's not really a "blank" rune, but otherwise, spot on.

  • Odin's rune is blank.

  • the video is death and darkenss it dishonors the RUNES tahnks for riuining it IMBECIEL!

  • you should try and be less judgemental on artist expression. it dishonors everyone. besides death and darkness are two subjects any decent rune reader would be interested in.

  • @fakjavathehut Excuse me, but I don't understand your point. The music, first of all, is not at all death and darkness. It is Amon Amarth, a band from Sweden, headed by Johan Hegg, an Athiest, and all their music is about the Asatru. The runes within the video are valid, because as the uploader of this video stated: the runes have been interpreted in many ways. I personally would disagree with the interpretations, simply because Tyr is undeniably the God of War, and he mentioned no such thing...

  • @fakjavathehut (Continued) Regardless, the runes ARE a valid interpretation, seeing as there is no "right" or "wrong" interpretation, the music is lyrically all about Asatru. So you're telling me, that because he disclaimed it as "Dark Death Productions" and used death metal in the video... All of a sudden he disgraced runes? He did not such thing. Also, learn to spell, imbecile.

  • I am called after the Runes,Strange because i feel that it is something special with the Runes that i can't explain! Viking metal FTW!!!

  • One day soon this video will be redone with a more peaceful song, so as people will have a choice on violent or peaceful.

  • Great video!!!

Maybe a Burzum song... but Amon Amarth is cool

  • are nordic peoples responsible for beginning and using runes reputedly "peaceful?" besides, new age doesn't have to mean old age.

  • Very good music and video. Hail Odin!

  • what makes you think ODIn gives a crap about you bottom feeder?

  • fakjavathehut,

You know suicide will cure what's wrong with you.

  • The group playing is not Folkish either...

However many have been brought to Asatru by their music.

    Wotan Mit Uns!

  • Great song in the background, but maybe something less hectic and more spiritual could have done better to introduce to the runes? We've got enough chest-beating Metal kids already claiming to be Odinist/Asatru but not really following the NNV, so, well...a different choice of music would have been more appropriate?

  • Just to put something right if necessary ;) Not all metalheads are 'chest-beating kids', haha... I for one am not a kid anymore, but do have a strong interest in 'old ways'... But, not claiming to be "Odinist/Asatru" or anything to the like :)

And a good thing that metal is doing is making sure that such history isn't lost and lives on... Song is nice :)

  • Throsigurd, i live by the NNV, or try as much as i can, and i'm a Metalhead. I am a heathen, but i don't like that word. Like Vikerness tells it, it didn't have a name back then and so it should not have a name now too. Because many claim to be pagan but don't know what it really is. Especially those hippies who think it's a tree hugging religion, ignorant hippies!

  • There are many pagan religions, you cannot say it is this or it is that....

  • You can say when it's Germanic or Slavonic or Celtic for example. I don't get your point really.

  • There are countless pagan religions. It's not true to say paganism is or is not anything, because pretty much every pagan is different.

There is more than one celtic pagan belief system, more than one germanic pagan belief system, Slavonic - I haven't done the research so I couldn't comment on that.

I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just saying you can't generalise the way you can with organised religion.

  • Oh, you mean it like that. Well that doesn't matter so much because Germanic paganism is very similar to each other in the big lines. Sometimes there is a legend, god or something else more or less. But that's just because of the local differences. It's not like completely different. You have coptic, catholic, protestant christian,etc... But it's all Christianity and judaism. Do you understand me? Sometimes it's just small but never big differences.

  • Good point.

Yeah I suppose a specific path will have a loose basis that remains pretty unchanged...

I'm glad you aren't one the countless argumentative types you get on here.

  • Why thank you lol ;). Well, i consider it to be important to always think for yourself and research.

  • Pagan is a word cooked up by the followers of the God of Abraham(Christianity, Catholicism, ETC.) to classify anything that wasn't their own religion.

  • If one were to learn the true meanings, what language should one study?

  • Old Norse which is now an extinct language but all Scandinavian languages derive from it. Faroese/Icelandic/Danish comes close to it in different aspects. Norwegian and Swedish languages both derive from medieval Danish which is the reason why Scandinavians understand each other without much trouble. Old Danish derives from Old Norse but true Old Norse cannot be learned (and hard to translate since there's very few inscriptions from 200-500 AD). There is one on the golden horns of Gallehus tho.

  • Sorry to tell you that Icelandic is the old norse as whas spoken in time from 700 - 1200 than Scandinavian languagse start to get mix from latin and so on.The Icelandic as been saved for many out coming languages.Hope it will be for 1000 year to come like this.

  • All Germanic languages i guess.

  • liked the video but not the music, kinda wished it was more peaceful really
