I never took term "art" in such a specific way... It has to many definitions. IS ART and IS NOT ART is just not as specific as "MALE" and "FEMALE"... In the end, what art means to every person is just what "mother culture" (everything we hear and learn from the world around us) tells him is. Subjective. It's almost as fundamental as liking a chicken soup more then a tomato soup, but in the way of thinking.
..what practically materially matters is Who's famous? But, yeah, let's talk about "What's art" until we get famous enough and we don't practically care about the question. Art today exists so you can fight over what it is, and what not, everything else is art. Or is it bullshit?
Thank god there are stuckists!! World would be so dull without you! I love you!
PS: I just rolled on the floor seeing that sudden popping on screen of Charles' shoe. Hilarious!
no, art is a specific concept. Something is not art just because someone calls it art. And just because something is "designed" doesn't mean it's art.
I'm inclined to side with the Stuckists. The cynical nature, negation of values and debasement of the human experience are powerful arguments. As far as The Tate goes, never have I laughed with greater frequency and intensity at what was trying to pass as valid artistic statement. Nevertheless, I would thoroughly recommend visiting Tate London even if it is for other reasons.
That would appear to be inaccurate, as there have been shows at the Walker Art Gallery, the Lady Lever Gallery, View Two Gallery, Hope Gallery John Moores Liverpool University, A Gallery, Spectrum London gallery, La Viande gallery, Rivington Gallery, Bailiffgate Museum, Wednesbury Museum and Art Gallery, Metropole Arts Centre, Newcastle Arts Centre, St Martin's College Lancaster, CBGB, and others. But don't let the facts undermine your argument.
Your argument was "no one cares about the Stuckists" and "they only get attention from protesting", neither of which is true. You have now changed your argument. So what?
yeah that was my original argument, the only attention they receive is when they are protesting about modern art. and essentially they are trying to de-value the importance of contemporary artists in order to raise the importance in their own art. but their work is clumsy, amateurish, incoherent and ignorant.
@Stuckstuckstuck Their peak of potenial is not as great as their art! They are gettin-on with negative emotions that confuses them to complain about their limit imaginitive ego.

@nothke In my opinion, the work is good (avoiding the word "art") when the author can defend it.

That shoe was designed by someone. The shoe is art.
Just because he only *personally* likes one thing as art doesn't make something else not art.

The question isn't "Is it art?", the question is "Is it good art?". That shoe is lousy as art. The painting is a lousy shoe.
