  • Just as a piece of film-making, this is a great scene. You only see Christ's effect on people. The makers wisely didn't directly portray Him: He never 'speaks', Rozsa's music speaks for Him. The reactions of the Roman Centurion say it all. Heston was extremely good in this kind of film. He didn't look like a person of that place, or time, but he had the qualities to play the part with conviction. Impossible to improve on.

  • everything in this scene is Gods character well Jesus if you would. Symbolicly and literaly shown...... such a great scene... every actor and extra was spot on..... so desperate and thirsty and the roman.......the way he became standing face to face with Jesus......amazing. Be refreshed everyone

  • C'mon YouTube, put on a Full HD 1080p SEARCH FILTER!! Man, How I'd loved to find this video before... Amazing!

  • why didnt he hit him?

  • @zimmcat Because the Roman Centurion instantly sees and senses that there's something completely different about this man. He senses there is something to be feared, honored and respected.

The Centurion recognized something greater in the man he was looking at than he saw in himself.

  • @zimmcat BEACUSE HES JESUS the God of the universe and the demons and the devil bow down before him AND TREMBLE WHEN THEY HEAR HIS NAME

  • The point is that there is no human face that could represent the face of Jesus. Instead of that, the director shows Jesus from the back and the Roman centurion. It can not be seen well in this video, but when centurion sees Jesus, his face reflects feelings of surprise, wonder, awe, admiration, weakness, fury... In this way the director creates the image of Jesus in each viewer individually. Ingenious, isn’t it? The expression on Charlton Heston’s face completes that image. That's the point!

  • Timeless, timeless scene. I'm not even a Christian, either.

  • @AspiringPotato I would strongly encourage you to open your heart and look into what Jesus Christ did for you. He took your sin, my sin, upon Himself to save all those who would believe in Him AND FOLLOW Him.

For starters read the Holy Bible book of John, believe that Jesus lived, took your sin, died in your place and rose to life again. Follow Him all the days of your life and never turn away and you WILL have new life NOW and be saved with Him and His family forever. Amen.

  • Possibly the best scene in any movie, ever.

  • "Hey Jesus, thanks for the salvation water, but can you get me out of this fix? No? Hey that's cool. I'm used to being whipped."

  • The guard was frightening of him but he didn't know why.

  • possibly the best scene in history.

  • Thanks Kevin for this high quality upload, of what is maybe, the most accurate uplifting view of Christ ever reenacted. To go even further, I believe this to be the most poignant cinematic scene in all cinematic history.

  • @61painless No problem and thanks for the comment.

I love how they show Jesus from Ben-Hur's point of view the few times that they do, and how they never show His face when He appears in the film the few times that He does.

  • Cant wait to watch it on bluray on my 120 inch hd projector

  • Is that from the blu ray master?

  • @TheFreakyChannel This is up converted dvd. I haven't gotten to blu ray version yet.

  • Thanks for uploading. Seen this film many times over the years... timeless and truly anointed

  • @IRP01 No problem. Thanks.
