hammond didn't necessarily sandbag it in the beginning. in such a hot climate, the turbos on the veyron will have more lag, and be much less efficient. the f1, being naturally-aspirated wouldn't lose power in the same as the veyron would. abu dhabi in the summer averages over 100 farenheit. that heat makes the air less dense, and thus reduces the effects of the turbos.
Get this. The Veyron is electronically LIMITED to 253mph, and that is a SAFETY PRECATION for the tyres, who might risk to shred at higher speeds.
The Veyron is rock stable at its top speed, I wonder how "stable" the SSC is...

Anyway, the mclaren is not built plainly for speed, but was to win the road car class of le mans, meaning it cannot weigh nearly as much as the bugatti and it has to have extraordinary handling. i would be interested to know the power to weight ratios of each car though, because that is what decides the winner.

If you had a mclaren you would probably have a rolls royce too.

The spoiler adds downforce at the expense of aerodynamic efficiency, the downforce is achieved through increase drag. So the spoiler slows it down. The Veyron is at a disadvantage deploying its spoiler in a straight line drag for accleration. Top speed is achieved spoiler down. And it still beat the Mclaren.
If they raced around the track the mclaren should win cos its more economical, should go round corners better and better drivers position. Around the nurburg ring even the corvette ZR1 beat the veyrons time by 15 seconds, if the ZR1 can do that imagine what the mclaren could do. :D

It was done on purpose for dramatic effect, the veyron wasn't even allowed to use its launch control. In a real pedal to the metal race, the Veyron would have beaten the F1 by so much, that it would have just been boring.

Those import cars can only go in a straight line, but a stock Corvette z06 is faster in the 1/4 mile, an also faster in the twisties. American cars are better, more reliable, and cheaper. Only buy american cars because if you don't you are supporting terrorism.
Do note that Hamster was NOT allowed to engage the launch control and he did mention in his blog that he misshifted first. If the Stig was both cars, it would be rather close to the 1/4 mile.

And as far as the F1 pulling away from the start it has been discussed many times - its manual and driver is professional as for veyron its automatic and the driver wasn't allowed to use launch control. Taking into consideration that F1 has better hp to weight ratio its logical outcome.

mclaren is faster IF it haves 7 shifts and a spoiler go on wikipedia and you all we see and mclaren have the record on 10 years!!!!!! but buggati beat it on 2005 only 15kmh..... and it have 7 shifts and a spoiler lame....... mclaren always and forever

Don't PM with crap about this. Since you won't post a reply here I'll spell it out for you as I did in my pm reply:
The spoiler adds downforce at the expense of aerodynamic efficiency, the downforce is achieved through increase drag. So the spoiler slows it down. The Veyron is at a disadvantage deploying its spoiler in a straight line drag for accleration. Top speed is achieved spoiler down. And it still beat the Mclaren.

If they raced around the track the mclaren should win cos its more economical, should go round corners better and better drivers position. Around the nurburg ring even the corvette ZR1 beat the veyrons time by 15 seconds, if the ZR1 can do that imagine what the mclaren could do. :D

I also read that the Veyron wasnt allowed to use its launch control... which i believe it should ahve been as its a feature of the car!
I love the F1 but u have to give credit to the Veyron... its a Masterpiece and the greatest car ever so far HAND DOWN!!!

the veyron looks stunnin in red. and i hate red! bugatti stole my idea for a car. when i was only 6 and my dad told me about V8s and turbos, etc. i said i would mate together 2 v8's and 4 turbos with rear tires that measured 12 inches wide or more with exactly 1000 hp.

Yes but that doesn't make sense, as the veyron has been proven to do 1/4 mile in the high 9 second range, while the F1 does it in 11 seconds.....So the F1 should have been killed....They did that on purpose for dramatic effect.

ok, somebody please tell me about this joke of a car the barabus tkr, it's starting to piss me off that everyone says "oh it's the fastest!' when i have yet to see any videos of the damn thing, personally the two cars in this vid are the greatest feats of engineering from both ends of the spectrum and i love them both, i'm just sick of the tkr, when it means nothing, help please

Haha that car was proven to be fake. You won't find any videos of it doing what it claims. It was just built and I think it had a modified mustang motor in it. But no where near the supercar level of performance that it claims.

It was done on purpose for dramatic effect, the veyron wasn't even allowed to use its launch control. In a real pedal to the metal race, the Veyron would have beaten the F1 by so much, that it would have just been boring.

If u ask me , I'd say the Mclaren F1 is still the best car ever made !! First of all it's a legend ...let's comapre it to the veyron shall we :P : 1 For Mclaren 2 for the veyron ...there goes : 1-V12 engline 2-16 cyl ... aspiration : 1-natural 2- quad turbocharged ...age ( by that i mean how much technologies existed at the time the car was first produced ) 1-15 years 2-4 years ...Horsepower : 1-627 bhp 2-1001 bhp see where i'm goin :P ? some'll say it's the weight difference ...I'd say legend

Those import cars can only go in a straight line, but a stock Corvette z06 is faster in the 1/4 mile, an also faster in the twisties. American cars are better, more reliable, and cheaper. Only buy american cars because if you don't you are supporting terrorism.

Do note that Hamster was NOT allowed to engage the launch control and he did mention in his blog that he misshifted first. If the Stig was both cars, it would be rather close to the 1/4 mile.

Well if you look at the cars from the past and today the more tehnology means lot more weight thanks to aids, better soundproofing, better soundsystems and that all means worse acceleration and top speed. And as far as the F1 pulling away from the start it has been discussed many times - its manual and driver is professional as for veyron its automatic and the driver wasn't allowed to use launch control. Taking into consideration that F1 has better hp to weight ratio its logical outcome.

The SSC Aero, is SLIGHTLY faster, but, once again is it a very rudimentary car. (Like the McLaren) Basics, none of the high-class performance, style and technological delicacies poured into the Bugatti... The speed of the SSC Aero is reached solelybecause of the weight of the car, NOT the friggin JET ENGINE of the Bugatti... Hmmmm jet engine... **drools**

the bugatti isnt as legendary, not even close to it. Mclaren was the best car of last century. the bugatti is faster but not here because it was so hot the cooler reduced acceleration. Bugatti may be faster, but mclaren is the best. speed isnt everything.

Like mentioned in the video, the McLaren was a mechanical marvel, meant to bring the driver to the raw elements of driving. The Bugatti, is insane, it is better in every way. The reason why these cars are so legendary in their own form, is what the driver is looking for.
