I used to have the VHS tape but not anymore. I really like the one Desi Arnaz says goodnight everybody. Thanks for downloading a SNL clip of Desi Arnaz. He was very talent.
MAN! HOW DID I FORGET HOW GREAT HE WAS? SHAME ON ME....AND OH BY THE WAY 2012 PEOPLE OF TODAY, THIS IS ENTERTAINMENT, THIS IS TALENT AND THIS IS DEFINITELY SEXY!!
Thank you so much for posting this. Wish I could find the Babalu one from this episode
And oh ya, that is Desi jr playing conga's behind him, looking just like him. And in the movie Mambo Kings with Anotonio Bandaras and Antonio Bandaras, Desi jr plays his father. Check it out.
When he called out the start of "BABALU!" I felt my hair stand up. It was a hell of a performance, and I could understand how Desi was a legend. It was electric.
Thumbs up, I saw that clip on SNL on dvd 1st season, disc 3 . Desi as guest star was one of best shows. The other clips with him are very good too even now go check them out.
Apart from the central star, Desi Jr. es fabulosa on the bongoes, has Sr.'s uniquely just right, sophisticated sense of syncopated rhythms. And also perfecta es Laraine Newman as la Cubana seniorita who sings the intro--with her trademark purity of artista integrity in staying in and projecting her characters with adamantine power.
Here in 1976 the elder Desi Arnaz is a Cuban-American Maurice Chevalier -- he had style, grace, talent, subtle humor, sophisticated rhythm and a sonorous mature singing voice: a class act, a joy to the end. Sui generis!
That song is Cuban Pete from a movie he made back in the 40's and also a different version from the I Love Lucy show....and that is Desi Jr. playing the bongos !!
Cute. I saw this show, Desi was promoting his autobiography at the time, I believe. That is his and Lucy's son Desi, Jr. in the white shirt playing the bongo drums.
Originally telecast on February 21, 1976 (and I saw it then!). Desi's closing number was, of course,"Babalu", with everyone doing a wild conga around Studio 8-H- right into the closing credits...
When Desi Arnaz was introduced as the guest host for this episode of SNL, he got maybe the longest standing ovation in the history of that show. It brought tears to my eyes.
