they're low end pearl. higher end ones are definitely decent quality, but since I spent 500 on this kit, that should tell you what it sounds like versus what it could sound like. personally, i'm partial to sjc. but if you're not looking to go custom, i'd say gretsch, because even their cheap kits are quality.
