Some of these are quite unfair... considering both the Jools Holland and "Other New Song" performances James was performing whilst ill. Jools Holland he hand bornchitis. Besides that, the Megadeth performances are all dvd (so... more than likely touched up vocals) and the Metallica ones aren't. I am a fan of both bands but this video is stupid and not even a fair analysis. They are both great in different ways.

Dave has no live presence. Just stands there, even in his younger days. James has always had better vocals and live presence. Dave is afraid of the mic now, goes quiet at a high vocal line. James can usually hit his high notes still, and even when he doesn't he doesn't give a fuck and sings it loud. James' connection with his fans is unrivaled. The success and impression these bands have created speak for themselves. Megadeth has always just been in the shadow of Metallica, and rightfully so imo

This is not a fair comparison. Most (if not all) of the live clips from Megadeth are taken from their official live releases in which much of Dave's vocals are overdubs in the studio done after the live performance. All of these Metallica clips were actual live broadcasts. Anybody who watched the 'Big 4' live broadcast in Summer 2010 was likely shocked how bad Dave's vocals were, however when the DVD was released in November, he sounded incredible.

What I wouldn't give to have seen the metal world with Dave to have remained in Metallica. I love both to death, but sometimes Dave's vocals don't have the vigor and I feel they are more spoken then blasted. However, Hetfield at times doesn't show the dedication on stage to that "root" of metal that Dave shows. Damn, it would have been utterly awesome to see Metallica (Hetfield, Mustaine, Ulrich and Burton) evolve together throughout 20 plus years.

Prefer James both as a singer and a songwriter. That's not to say Mustaine is not an accomplished songwriter, I just find James' style more appealing. Mustaine will always be a technically better guitarist. At the end of the day Metallica and Megadeth are both awesome bands, and James and Dave are awesome frontmen. Nuff said!
