• I grew up with the temps and thank you for the video. It brings back memories. Thank you

  • you can order this video cd. its called.the temptations get ready the defintive performances 1965-1972

  • @tryby12 ha already have it ;)

  • Paul Williams the most underrated temptation and singer of all time.

  • Lawd!!... i Luv Paul's voice!!....and to tell the truth...this is my 1st time actually sittin back and listenin to this Song...specifically...and i love it!... :-)

  • I would like to say thank you I love this song, I was so sad until I heard this song. You really made my day by posting this video God Bless You.

  • @teresanuba1 Your Welcome, and Thanks for the comment. I feel the same way, I was goin' through some things when I posted this, it made me feel good every time I watched it!

  • Motown had Paul killed. He has a full album they wouldn't release and he threatened Gordy and stood up to him. He was gonna leave the label and they didn't like that. Gordy had his goons shoot him as well as the police were under Gordy's belt. So they covered it up to make it look like a suicide. I say reopen the case.

  • I don't care what anybody said, says or saying ,Paul Williams was Mr. Temptation. I will always believe that in my soul, and i know i am not the only one.

  • gets better every time i hear it love j vincent edwards

  • i love his voice. thanks for the upload..:-)

  • Not a single "dislike" that EXACTLY what I'm talkin about! HELL YEAH PAUL!

  • paul william you are so great never forgotten

  • i think he got shot, ot shot himself, even my mother agrees that somebody called him out and shot him.

  • This is sentimental. When the Temptations first started out, Paul did most of the leads. Then the leads were delegated between he and Eddie. But when David Ruffin came into the group, David sang most of the leads and Eddie sang some of the leads. After that Paul only sang two lead songs which was Don't Look Back and For Once In My Life. Otis said in his book that Paul felt bad that he wasn't getting more lead songs anymore and that Paul was the backbone of the group. And I second that emotion!

  • David Ruffin looks very eager to participate in this performance.

  • My fav

  • the greatest vocal group of all time....this is THE line up

  • Man, I'm 52, and am not getting younger at all, but not any music produced today can touch this stuff.

  • This man sang his ass off and never got his props - you're right, sexyskin, Paul wherever you are - much love sweetie.

  • Paul voice is outstanding. I really don't think he was given the credit he deserved.

  • I think he had the best voice in the group. Ruffin was great too. But my vote is for Paul.

  • the temptations are the best

  • awsome

  • What a beautiful song!

  • DAM PAUL HAD A VOICE

  • The harmony on this cut extraordinary. Temptations Forever !!

  • Woooow it had to be something real deep for him to take his life, He must have been tired of the bullcrap. Sometimes singing can be tiring specially if it's all you know, the gettin up early the long traveling the contracts to be a slave the pay Irs every damn thing can make you explode like a bomb., but in the end it's all over, it's eternal rest. Love you forever Paul and Temps.

  • Absolute, utter perfection. Don't Look Back and its flip side (My Baby) comprised one of the greatest singles of all time, bar none.

  • Thank you so much for posting this, love the Tempts, but as I got older appreciated the style and smoothness of Paul. Excellent dancer, he was so classy and smooth in his precision. Dance the grooves off the floor.

  • when music was actual real music

  • Paul had a very sexy voice. The Tempts were just great.

  • what an underrated TEMP. rip.

  • Classic... so much love.

  • DON'T LOOK BACK was the original "A" side of the record...NOT "My Baby".

  • Thank you. One of my all time favorite songs. Paul was a beautiful singer that left us way too soon. Nobody does it like the Temptations! Such class.

  • Comment removed

  • The Temps never performed Dont look back again after Paul died in 73.

  • This wasn't the right song for him. This didn't showcase his voice like...I NEED A LOVE I CAN SEE.....that's the ONE!

  • i think this song was sooooo good and he has a great voice.

  • I am in heaven listening to Paulds voice wonderful thanks for posting

  • Almost All of The Temptations' greatest records were written by The Miracles. This song was written by Miracles members Ronnie White and Smokey Robinson, the same two Miracles who wrote "My Girl" for the Tempts.

  • A SONG SO TRUE I CAN LIVE BY IT'S CODE! WONDERFUL POST NESSAM72, THANX

  • @TheMackado Thanks! I feel the same way, even though it's tough sometimes! lol

  • @nessam72

  • Amazing Talent!!

  • SHIT this is pure dope!!!!!! thanks!

  • @flojacq lol, thanks!

  • The real thing

  • I know everyone is saying this but GOD!!! His voice. XD Amazing. <3

  • @ImTheAsianChick13

:D I know, His voice really touched my soul! Thanks

  • man he had a thick and nice voice !

  • I like it

  • My Man Paul!

  • Paul was a great singer. I wish I was alive at the time when the Temps were hot!!!!! Paul was my favorite

  • Great song, b-side from My Girl...i´m glad to hear PHIL COLLINS sing it in 2010

  • My favorite Temps song of all time. This song was so under-rated.what a great voice.RIP Paul.

  • So sad that only 1 original Temptation is still alive. I was filled with immense sadness that Paul Williams passed away the way he did. Even Eddie Ruffin's death broke my heart. The fact that these guys came out with such beautiful music and still couldn't overcome their demons makes it all the more sad. They left the world with such beautiful, soulful music but just breaks my heart that they aren't still around.

  • @tupacamaru2 I feel the same way. Almost wish you could go back in time and change things before any of the problems arose, especially with a group with this much talent. Both Paul and David had incredible voices, i watch this video and just think what today's music could have learned from these guys on how to sing and perform. I will never forget them, and all the really great artists of the era and before them who worked and mastered their craft and had a true love of the music.May they all RIP

  • " Paul Williams the heart of soul of the Tempations." Quote from Otis Williams

  • Dam What A GReat song, Now thats real music.

  • Paul is one sexy a%$ man! This has always been my favorite Temp song. Even as a child I tried to guess, just by looking at the album cover, who the lead singer was on this song. I was correct. Too young to know about this group, but just enjoying their music. Paul has a sexiness that cannot be described. I love his confidence, especially when dancing. I feel that he was misunderstood. He was very talented. Does anyone know what happend to his website? RIP Paul, Melvin, Eddie, and David.

  • This a great song I love Paul !!!!

  • Sorry guys. You mean Eddie and Melvin are only ones working on the sides. Check the video again. Peace. stesha4

  • I had no idea that Paul sung this. I always thought David Ruffin sang the lead.

  • The Temps had a deep bench. Weird to see David back there doing almost nothing. This song was tailor-made for Paul who did a great job.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY,PAUL 7/2/10 MISS YOU,RIP MY SWEET, SEE YOU AT THE "RAINBOW BRIDGE"...LOVE YOU ALWAYS.

  • One of their best (and overlooked) songs and great to see Paul RIP on lead as he was from the start. He had a great voice, face, and appeal. His life was hard but he was courageous and I love him.

  • Like it, I love it ,and I love Eddie too. I had a change to party with Eddie's backup group, The Senators, at the Scene Nite Club in Baltimore. If I wasn't at the club he would sometimes ask about me. So we were sort of indirect friends. He's sweet and charming.

  • paul was the first lead for the temps.

  • Paul remains my favorite, he was a vital part of this groups success! Love his voice always.

  • I love Paul. I love this video.

  • Eddie is as smooth as silk.

  • I always thought Paul was an awesome singer and.his moves were moving. When Paul died back in the day I don't remember the cause of his death being a self inflicted gun shot. If my thoughts are right the cause of death was listed as cancer. Can anyone help me with this?

  • @MsGirl1st didn't he also have sickle cell?

  • Paul Williams...my favorite Temptation

  • This song is so true on how I feel for my special lady Carolyn!!

  • David and Melvin don't seem to be doing much compared to Otis and Eddie on the sides. And this was before David got the big head, so maybe it was meant to be that way? Who knows. Great song though. An underrated classic!

  • @TrueTalkTV Thanks for the Post! I agree with You too :)

  • @TrueTalkTV Good observation but at this period in time Paul did all their choreography so that may have been how he wanted it....also David being the main vocalist by the time of this clip was probably not as in tune to dancing as the others were although he was very good in his later tenure with the Temp's.

  • @cudaj2, Did he already have the big head by this time or no? If so, he could have been thinking "Why the hell am I down here when I should be singing lead?" and not really putting his effort into the song.

Oh, and when you say his later tenure, you mean around the time of "I Wish It Would Rain" etc?

  • lol Whoops. Nvm that first question. I just saw this is 1965. So he had JUST made My Girl, and didn't quite have the big head yet. (Unless he got it RIGHT after) You can still answer the second question though lol

  • @TrueTalkTV Nah I think this was before he let the fame and cocaine get to him. Yes around that time maybe around their psychedelic soul period. He danced pretty well when the late, great Eddie Kendricks would sing "Get Ready" also.

  • @TrueTalkTV said :'''David and Melvin don't seem to be doing much compared to Otis and Eddie on the sides...'''

It's the choreography for that number.

  • @TrueTalkTV Thats david and otis not doing much in the back

  • HIS VOICE IS SO COMFORTING

  • @xs3ximi4x

I agree, Thanks for viewing and posting!

  • Just like Eddie said in the movie,"You think we could have got a contract with Motown without Paul". Paul was the best, and should have done more lead ,not taking anything from David, i liked him just as much, they were equally talented.

  • @theintruder42

I love em' all too! Thanks for viewing and posting!

  • Paul's voice was "soulfully thick"...masculine, strong and trusting...and on top of that...THE MAN HAD MOVES!!! Umph, Umph, Umph!!!!

  • @belovers4ever

I agree, that's what I love most about Him! Thanks for viewing and posting!

  • @nessam72 Saw them in 1967 in SF at the Cow Palace, I was 17. David was smoking a joint on stage. I am a a white guy that has been listening to these guys and the Tops and Dells since then. WOW, thanks for the upload....

  • @belovers4ever I couldn't have said it better about Paul's voice.I will continue spreading Motown and all the great soul music of yesteryear, today's stuff can't touch it.

  • pure magic great song great vocals wonderful production thanks for this super post j vincent edwards

  • Jesus, his voice..

  • @robdobbler

I know....lol, Thanks for viewing and posting!

  • awesome motown! I love the temptations so much! they make my heart melt ♥

  • One of the most underrated singers in Motown history! I love his voice soooo much... wow..this video is priceless

  • i wonder what would've happened to them if Paul hadn't joined...

  • Paul, I've said this so many times, because I can never hear your voice in live concert again. You took this southern white boy 40 years ago and opened his heart and mind to all that was around him. Your music and style became my inspiration and I will never rest until those that murdered you are brought to justice. Thank you. I love you and always will. You still inspire me and you still give me hope. Mike

  • Paul Williams, my favorite Temptation, next Edward James Kendrick. I really love Paul's voice he has no equal within the baritones. Paul sings with more soul and compassion than ANYONE THAT I'VE HEARD SING! It is such a pleasure to hear songs that Paul lead. Thenk you for postiong.

    ;

  • paul tears this song up gives me chills!

  • one good sound

  • I missed you tonight, Paul. You were my hero way back then. Tonight I comforted a brother whose wife left him and his children for another man. As I was talking to him, I remember this song and shared it with him, because it was a salve in my life at one time, when my wife left me for another. Paul is singing it. He reminds us that we should not lose our faith in love, and he was and is right.

  • a great voice and performer!

  • Always enjoyed this song by Paul. My other two guys were Eddie, and David.

  • Here is my line up....Paul, David , and Eddie. David was cool. Thats what put him second, but all were great singers!

  • @196465 my line up is: David, Paul, Eddie, (Dennis), Melvin and then Otis

  • @krakauerdav5 I can work with that. Peace!

  • aww look at paul :D love that husky voice!!!

  • thank you so much for posting this! i watched this video so much yesterday that i dreamed about them! i love the way he sings baby!

  • I remember as a child me and my girlfirends would be in Trinity park in the Low bottoms rolling twenties, trying to be the Temptations....this was my song to lead!!!haahaha we had fun in these years....

  • if I could sing - I wish i had a voice like Brotha Paul!

This man had a great voice!

  • @Shiftyeyes516 Yes he did indeed. One of my all time favorite tracks, and there were many by them.Real music.

  • This is one of those thing you just have to see in a life time! Watching Paul deliver a performamnce like this one just makes you smile and say: my God! Where these guys real or was just our imagination? I love all of them but I always had a soft spot for Paul! TEMPTATIONS FOREVER!

  • Comment removed

  • everytime i watched this vedio - i think - maybe they made the cheography up on the spot, because eddie and melvin were so off - but still LOVE THE TEMPTS.

  • I can't get enough of this video. . I loved me some Paul. I still love him although he's gone.

  • Me too....It wasn't until early this year when I watched the movie for the first time, that I really found out how much each artist put into the group! And He was a huge part! I love him, and his voice. Thank You!

  • Thank you, for posting this. What a treat.

  • great post

  • The Temptations ... forever !!!!

Thank you much for posting this Video, nessam72

  • I meant enough. Sorry for the typo.

  • Thanks for posting! I absolutely love Paul. HE was definitely a driving force behind the Temptations. I love him on lead and just wish he had more lead vocals in the later yrs. Nonetheless he got them out the gate and set a standard early on for the Temps.

  • I just LOVE the Temptations, one of the best groups that came out of Motown.

  • Paul Williams the TEMPTATIONS secret weapon. Man!! What a voice, style and presence!! I really felt when he sang!!

  • You're right, but i didn't even notice that until the last couple of mos.

I guess that's why they would call him the Legendary Paul Williams Sr.

and after watching that movie over and over...i can see it! Thanks for the comment, and viewing!

  • On another version of this performance,

Paul does the "Ali Shuffle" while singing

    "Keep on walking....."

Can't remember on what show, but he does it perfectly, and you know where he

    got it from!

With the 1-2 punch of David & Eddie, there

was little room for a third lead, but it's loud and clear on "It's you that I Need" with

Paul loud & clearly on the chorus.

Anywhere else he's a lead, with the Tempts, integral harmony.

Reminds me a little of Jerry Butler.

  • I think that show was on the Ed Sullivan Show

  • mna, you just stepped on my TOE I LUV IT!!!!!

  • PAUL is standing on a GIANT REESE'S PEANUT BUTTER CUP. (darnit...now I'm hungry. LOL) .

  • Wow, Thank You...I didn't realize! HAPPY BIRTHDAY " THE LATE GREAT PAUL WILLIAMS"

  • thanks for the post i look at this video at least once a day lol

  • Your Welcome! I'm glad that you and others love it as much as me!!!

  • most people dont realize that paul had a great voice. thanks for the post. i miss them all so much' i came up in the early senenties in detroit and i got to meet most of them good people

  • No they don't , I believe that he did a lot of their early songs? And Your Welcome! If I can post more videos, than I will.

  • seeing Paul makes my heart melt i lve me sum tempts!

  • Me too! I still keep watching their movie, and documentary like once a week! lol

  • Many many thanks to you for the post...

  • Oh, you are soooo Welcomed!

  • Beautiful music & lyrics.

    Also love The Temptations movie.

    Great video...5*****

  • LOL, I was almost addicted to watching the movie! And that's what I love, the talent and the music...Thanks for the comment!

  • Hi again Vanessa. I've just watched this a few more times and I want to tell you that I think this is the best Temptations clip that I've seen with Paul doing lead vocals. All of the Temps had unbelievable voices but Paul seldom got a chance to show what he could do. I know there are other clips with Paul on lead vocals but for me this the one. He was a legend.

  • Hi Pernicketty,

I agree with you completely! This is my favorite performance by him...and that's why I just had to share it. I watched this so many times, and listen to the song too! And he seldom got a chance to show what he can do, and I wish that he could have...because this is just awesome!!! Thanks for the Great Comment, and hopefully I will find other performances like this one :)

  • You've done it again! Huge thanks as usual!

  • You're Welcome, I'm glad that someone else has the same view as me! lol
