An LT1 stock has an awesome torque peak it hits close to 2000rpm where the LS1, LS2 and LS7 hit close to 4000rpm. Amplify that with a Vette stock clutch and you wind up with a car that is handicapped in the 1/4 mile.

Alldaysteve are you insane? The 3.8L intervals have nothing on the LT1 internals. The 3.8 was a regular daily driver and the LT1 is made for high performance. It has Powdered rods if I'm not mistaking and they will turn 8k rpms with no problem whatsoever. Skrew the v6's

LT1s are much better engines than most people think.

I don't understand the bad rap.

They breath well and take boost better than any engine out there with two bolt mains.

Too many people get freaked out the optispark.

MSD made an easy cap and rotor fix years and year ago.

I think in time the LTs will be remembered for the great power plants they were.

The Opti it's self isn't bad.

It's leaky cap and vent holes that let water in you have to deal with.

Summit & Jegs both sell an MSD cap and rotor set that moves the vents up to the intake.

If you install the MSD unit and plug the holes at the bottom of your Opti it should last as long as any other distributor.

The MSD has better seals than stock and together with the new clean air vent system it's the best fix on the market.
