I've only ever heard of Porcupine Tree twice in my life, from the same person. The first time was after he saw them at a show in LA and he had me listen to a few songs off of The Incident...6 more months passed before he told me that they had better songs than the ones on that album, and to this day I find them the most moving band that I've ever listened to.
