@DinoGuys you have to be fast. if that fails, stock up on missiles or find some more energy tanks.

In Super Metroid, Ridley's tail is cheaper than the screw attack.

Just a tip: missiles aren't a good weapon against Ridley. By the time you get to him, your beam has been upgraded enough that it does more damage. Super Missiles might be better than the beam, I'm not sure, but I find the battle quick and easy enough with the beam.

You know fighting against Ridley was just as epic in that game as he was in Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion. It was those three games that he fought using almost the same tatics.

@MrOnyxWolf Actually, in Fusion he was really slow compared to the other two. Plus, he was actually stunned by the plasma beam, wtf!

I guess the X didn't exactly enhance everything it assimilated after all.

@MrOnyxWolf In that fight, yeah. The plasma beam is an eleventh-hour superpower in Fusion, so they overpowered it quite a bit.

@KojiroArma Usually, the X enhance some properties of their victims, but at the cost of another property. This was the case for Dessgeega-X (the hopping creature similar to a sidehopper). The X gave it the ability to shoot spikes, but at the cost of its usual durability. It has less armor than a normal Dessgeega.

If Samus did THAT to him, why did she freeze up when she saw him in Other M?

@BlackYoshi2 Because she did THIS to him in this game. It's kind of like the movie "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker", where the Joker shows himself to Bruce Wayne, and Wayne, who's always prepared with a response of some sort when the Joker shows up, is paralyzed with shock because he had watched the Joker die years ago. Canonwise, this fight marks the official death of Ridley, so it would make sense that she would freeze up at the sight of her mortal enemy, alive and well, against all logic.

@Sanguiluna But it makes no sense when she's done it to him several times already and thought he was dead before. Giving her PTSD now, this late in the story, is stupid. If Other M took place in the beginning when she was still a rookie would have made a lot more sense and a lot more forgivable. Other M is the latest story chronologically and by now she's a battle-hardened bounty hunter who will get the job done, personal feelings aside. Since the first game and then on, she fought numerous...

@crazy4sian No but you don't understand; prior to the events of Other M, the last Samus saw of Ridley was her utterly destroying him, and leaving him on a planet that EXPLODED. After Zebes, she was 100% certain that Ridley was truly dead. And the thing is, he WAS; Super Metroid, unlike the other games, marks the TRUE death of Ridley. Usually when someone dies for real, we tend to be shocked if see them alive again.

@crazy4sian What other time has she ever been 100% certain Ridley was dead? Prior to her victory over him in Super Metroid, she's never said or implied that she thought he was 100% dead. It was only after Zebes's destruction that Samus explicitly states her certainty of his death.

@crazy4sian That's why all those other times Ridley reappeared, like in Metroid Primes 1 and 3, and in Super Metroid, she was never surprised; because she knew he was still alive and was expecting him to show up sooner or later. But the fact that she shows surprise for the very first time in Other M means that her victory in Super Metroid was the only time she was convinced he was dead.

@Sanguiluna If it were just that, why would Samus relive traumatic flashbacks of her childhood; instead of traumatic flashbacks of when she last killed him? The reason is probably Team Ninja's and/or Sakamoto's idea of pulling cheap and poorly executed drama. But you know, this is probably a fun game to play, and I won't take away that away from Other M. This is the first Metroid game to be driven by story and developed by a third party, but it will always be a black mark in Metroid history.

@crazy4sian I don't know why they threw in the childhood flashes; probably just for dramatic purposes or something. Personally I didn't think that part made sense, but her whole freezing up was understandable, given the circumstances.

@crazy4sian The thing is, whenever a creature dies, that tends to be the end of it. Like I said in my previous comments, prior to her fight in Super Metroid, Samus never really believed Ridley to be dead after beating him; she always had a "till I see you again" attitude, which is why none of his other reappearances surprised her; she was expecting him to show up sooner or later. But after Super Metroid, she had a "I'm finally rid of him" attitude, and expected never to see him again.

@Sanguiluna ...untold horrors of the galaxy and showed us that she was business. Yes, she is a woman, but Other M can't seem to stop bashing us in the head that she is. Why it took this direction to portray her like this is somewhat understandable, but she's seen much more since her first encounter including recreations of her mortal enemy after she made sure he was dead a number of times already. PTSD is not an excuse. It was Yoshio Sakamoto poor direction and Team Ninja's involvement. Deal.

i love the metroid games from the 2d to the prime and other m also i like the 2d games like Shadow Complex which are like the metroid games i wonder if there any good 2d games like this that are fairly new

@mitchx69 If you're looking for non-linear games like Metroid I suggest the Castlevania series from Symphony of the Night upwards. The 2d ones usually the Metroid formula hense Metroidvania :p

YES! FINALLY! Someone who's able to PROPERLY kill Ridley without being grabbed at the end. It's a bit hard killing him like this cause he really tries to grab you at one point, but that's what makes it more challenging. You rock.
