Interesting video. I took a dream workshop with a psychologist for a year and we practiced lucid dreaming, with varying degrees of success. One point that the leader brought up was that dreams are very special functions of the subconscious, and usually they have to be completely free of interference to do their job and preserve mental health. (more)
@clydesight (continued) So lucid dreams, the attempt to get inside a dream to change it or to talk to dream characters doesn't work much of the time because it gets "over ridden" by the natural function of dreams which is to work out psychological issues in "free space"... free of conscious judgement and so on. Subconscious mind gets lots of that when we are awake! But lucid dreams can work sometimes, just rarely. Still it is a fascinating subject.
i think for someone that plays video games all the time it is nearly impossible to have one. the past 4 days i have had dreams where im in an are that im completely familiar with but there are significant changes to it and i dont even notice it. another i was on rapidly shifting icebergs and didn't question it while i was having fun on them. another i was racing through traffic on a highway going nearly 200 mph having tons of near crashes but managed to miss all of them. never crossed my mind...
@WCGwkf my point being, having a lot of exposure to things that would never happen in real life, during a dream you wouldnt question these events happening
sounds a lot like astral travel, the sinking feeling can be yr astral body shifting the paralysis you feel is because your minds connecting to your astral body so our normal body is unable to move but because your not fully in the astral body yr aware of this
i have sleep paralysis occur occasionally, usually when it does i can easily OBE, and it feels amazing however everytime it happens now I don't because I have had 2 dreams involving some creature attack me while i was having a dream of me in my brothers room (the creature was in the dream lol) and jumped on me and pin me to the ground, once that happened it felt so real, and is similar feeling to sleep paralysis, I guess im scared of what I might see, the hypnagogic imagery i want to overcome it
Dude you have absolutely hit the nail on the head. I just had my first lucid dream two days ago, and the way you describe it is perfect. I also get that sleep paralysis thing from time to time, but I've never been brave enough to go with it, haha.
When I'm really tired I get paralyzed like you explained in the beginning of the video, but I also feel pressure rushing to my head, it doesn't, hurt but in my half conscious mind, I believe if I don't wake myself up immediately my head will explode.
I've been attempting Lucid Dreams for almost 3 months now, yet I haven't had one yet. I have an app on my iPad called Dream Log, that lets me record my dreams and look back through all the entries, I've tried the WILD technique, the dream checks during the day, among others, yet I haven't had a lucid dream. What is up with me? I really want to lucid dream.
Thank you a lot for sharing this information :) I'm trying to have lucid dreams for a few days and the more information I get the more I want to have one of those lucid dreams
Hi Craig from Australia! Think your vid on L Dreaming is great! You have a the perfect personality and a professional 'Radio Voice'. OK- You are what I call The Natural Lucid Dreamer. One of these days I'll get of my butt and put a vid on L D. A tip (auto hypnosis) that will get your LD going turbo. SIT -not lie-relaxed, Eyes up, eyelids shut, inhale, hold6 secs, exhale slowly...
Now: Visualize entering a dream and becoming fully Lucid . Keep saying, "No Rules or Physics or Regs in dreams.."
@minchy87 Never fight it. As soon as I realize that I'm going into a lucid dream, I relax and let it happen. Never again will I fight the paralysis. I just give it a few seconds, and before I know it, I'm getting out of my bed in a dream, and I know it's a dream. The world is your playground in a lucid dream. The question is, is it a dream, or some other reality or dimension, or another universe? what IS reality?
I know I'm dreaming and have limited control at times, I can float/fly/jump and I know I'm dreaming. But I can't control my dreams entirely. When something bad happens in a dream I always wake up.
*~I tried spinning to maintain lucidity, it did help a lil, like looking at your hands/feet. It felt really awesome while spinning too! Thank you for sharing! ;} Namaste!!!*
ahh, im so jealous! :) Ive been trying to lucid dream for over two years now and still no luck but this video was extremely helpful, summarized a lot of information for me.
I'd like to add, when you were describing that humming noise, well, people who have OBEs often say that they hear strange noises as they fall to sleep and enter an OBE.
Last night when i went to sleep i started flying very very fast in my room, i dont remember if i controlled it, but i knew for sure that it was a dream. I was too amazed of it so i woke up, i controlled my waking up. I just opened my eyes and thought wtf just happened and how. I was frightened to go to sleep again.. It was like scary unreal reality.. what could it be? just a dream or...
I really don't know if I actually experienced Lucid Dreaming. but, somehow, the way you said it, maybe I already had. and yeah, it was also flying. and yeah, like how you said it, it felt so real that I wanted to go back from the dream. I knew it was a dream, so was it called Lucid dreaming?
hi i had these a few times too but ive been shaking it off all the time(im 16) and now i cant wait for that feeling to happen again so i can experience lucid dreaming ty for vid helped alot
ive had that same experience where it feels like you start traveling like almost as if you are being pulled backwards or falling, i never fought the feeling, one time i was dreaming that i was hiking near the mountains and out of nowhere i started to freefall torwards the mountains from the sky, i thought i was going to die when i hit the ground but i said "hey maybe its just a dream" so when i hit the ground i instantly went back up and started falling again becuase i knew it was a dream.
I fly too!!! Once I flew in my dream and it was funny because I was flapping my arms and as I was dreaming I thought " am i hitting my husband?' who was laying next to me. That dream started to get boring so I yelled "Suzie wake up!' And i did.. Also I usually fly across the sky. but that time I tried flying up like to the moon. I could feel the wind flapping my face.
When i was younger if i would lye still i would feel as tho like i was floating out of my body and i would feel like i was hovering over myself and just looking around. i was not asleep i was to affraid to float away to far from my body, i would just snap back in a second. after a few minutes.
I still remember my first lucid dream. I flew as well. Flying is still the thing I do most often, I also flap my arms when I fly as well, lol. The first time I realised I was in the back garden and I realised I was dreaming, I then jumped over the house and got so excited that I woke myself up. The most successful dream test for me is to hold my nose and then try to breath through it, if you can still breath then you're dreaming.
I remember a Lucid Dream i had, It was 4 months ago and basicly, im like in the videogame DOOM and its funny because im there using super Speed ,Shooting rocket launchers and climbing up walls.
It Felt amazing, It was such an Experiance. Except the part when my dream ended while killing a Boss of some sort.
I have a good one for you. I occasionally have a dream about being back in an old workplace in a cleanroom environment. Everytime I have this dream I think oh no I'm working here again on that crappy shift. I had actually left that job more than 10 years ago! The recurring dream is vvery realistic and convincing to me. Heres the thing,I was having this dream yet again but in the dream I approached a colleague to explain that I have this recurring dream.I was explaining this to him in my dream!
I often have dreams where I am explaining the dream to someone in the dream. And I too have those recurring dreams that I am back in school and can't find my classroom. I also have dreams within dreams and when I wake from the inner dream, I am explaining it to someone in the outer dream. Then I wake up for real and think about how weird that was.
I know exactly how real lucid dreaming seems. I've been having these same experiances since I was about 7 or 8. Wait till you dream that you are possesd. It's happened to me 3 times in the past 2 years. Talk about realistic and scarry, I can't even begin to describe the feeling and emotion and the level of intensity of it. It is something you would have to experiance to find out what it's like.
Hello Craig. I think i've started having lucid dreams or something of the like, in the last 2 or 3 months i've had 2 dreams where i have realised i am dreaming and can do anything i want but as soon as i start enjoying myself i wake up........didn't think much of it at the time except i wished they had lasted longer. By the way whenever i have a flying dream i flap my hands to fly just like you!!!
Research as shown that these, "Lucid Dreams," are most likely responsible for most of the alien abduction stories.
Also, lucid dreams are caused by a naturally occuring drug in your body called DMT (Dimethyltryptamine), this drug is thought to be responsible for maintaining a healthy mind, and to ensure stability and sanity. It is also a drug that can be purchased on the street, and its effects are much more pronounced due to the high dosages. Effects include religous experiences and halluci's
Wow. I really enjoyed this video Craig !!! I have had Lucid Dreams before too, but that was about 20 years ago and I would love to have some more of these like you did !!! Please do some more videos about dreaming, I think that would be great !!! Thanks for sharing your experiences !!!
About 20 years ago (when I was young and experimenting) I was laying in bed trying to sleep after an evening on pot and amphetamine.
I had a really odd sensation - I was laying next to myself.
I know I was not asleep because I could never sleep on amphetamine. The experience was vivid and totally clear. I could actually feel I was next to myself.
Wasn't frightening, just strange. Lasted about 5 minutes.
your lucky, i can only remember 2-3 times this happening, but its interesting what you say about sleep position. I don't sleep on my back but nodding of if i think about something I wanna dream about it will only happen if i lie on my left side. weird
got a baby and a toddler now so dreams and sleep are both abstract at the moment.
PS... i also jump while flapping my arms before goin through with walkin outside naked. Its just comon sense...lol
hey craig its weird i have had almost the exact same experiances as you. it also runs in my family and its a way i can enter lucid dreaming. although sometimes i find it extemely difficult to control what happens even if i am awake. the worst thing ive found is for it is drinking, it either tottally elminates my dreams or makes it impossible to go into a lucid dream from being paralized. also to tell if im in a dream i look at some text and then look back, it always changes in a dream.
hi craig brian here very nice video, I have had dreams where I felt like I was falling but I wake up fast( it scares the shit out of me) is this the same thing you are talking about? anyway are you making a video on the new inmate brew? can't wait
Next time you have one of these Lucid Dreams, see if you can READ anything. Every time I try to read in a dream, it looks like gibberish. I hear it's because the side of the brain that dreams is not the side of the brain that "reads". I'm curious if you get the same thing. I LOVE this discussion!!
Hey Craig, thx for this good introduction to Lucid Dreaming! Always interesting to watch :)
The phenomenon you had all your life is called Sleep Paralysis. It's completely natural. We all have it about 5 times every night =]
But some people are more conscious of it than others...
It is just that your body is already in this protective mode of paralysis (otherwise you would act out your dreams!) while your mind is still partly awake.
hey dad, I had this happen to me the other day, and many times in the past, its amazing, I usually find myself the nearest girl and nice car, and hope I never wake up... haha
were you listening...it wasn't a rant, nor a negative comment... I pity anyone involved with someone as shallow as you seem... Again, chill pills can be found at any of your nearest pharmacy's.
Hey there LJ myster!! Let's get somethin straight muh friend....you have absolutely no inclination about the context of my comment so do not be so quick to judge me! I saw other Craig vids, which I am a huge fan of I might add, where you did the same. Someone decides to make a comment ,sometimes silly or whatever, and you then, MR. GREATER THAN THOU, figures, ahemm, "you should not make comments like that..ahem ..I am Craig's moderator....give me a break!! and take a chill pill!!!!!!!
@Axeheum How about you take a chill pill dude. I see your comment can be taken as fun/funny, no need to go of on a rant. I'm just tired of seeing negative comments bashing Craig that I decided to fight back a little. ;). All's good on the interwebz
Never experience lucid dreaming so as that manor but I have had more then 100 episodes of a situation called sleep paralyzation or old hag experience. This is when your body falls asleep but your brain, vision, and hearing remains awake. You can't move your body at all,and you can't speak. It is terrifying, whenever I feel myself going into to one I struggle to get out of it hearing myself moaning as I fight to free myself, this only lasts 30 seconds give or take. Great vid Craig, take care. Later
This is kind of weird, but most of my lucid dreams happen when im being chased by dinosaurs or something else. and ussually i cant change where i am but i can control what i do and whether whatever im running from catches me or not. and they say if u die in a dream u die in real life, and i know im not gonna die so if i get sick of being chased i just let the thing catch me and i wake up.
@Axeheum If m8 your trying to be funny/skeptical about Lucid dreaming. Read it up on the internet it's real and you can train yourself to have them more often. For some very lucky people, lucid dreaming is normal and they do it every night.. Which i find amazing and am Jealous of.
I have ? . Have you ever had a home made wine get to 14% alcohol in 3 days? I started a peach wine using 2 29 oz. cans of peaches and added 2 cups of sugar for a gal. and I tested it in the beginning with my hydrometer it read 14%. then 3 day later I took a hydrometer reading and it read 0% on the potential alcohol. I then added 1 more cup of sugar. I used red star Premier Cuvée.
man I have had some dream you would not believe. I remember there was a movie about a women that dreamt about a 2ND life and did not know witch live was real.
I just had a dream of flying in someones living room and remember asking if they,(mother father and son) have ever seen someone levitate before, then I floated around their living room, the kid wasn't convinced so, I had him open the front door and I flew around their front yard but I got tired fast and had trouble with the electrical wires. When I awoke I was concerned about getting tired, so today I started excercising. My dreams have a direct affect on my daily life.
For awhile I couldn't fly in my dreams and I was actually feeling depressed until I could fly again.
I have a dream book that I keep along with a recorder beside the bed to help remember my dreams, the dream book helps explain your dreams. Once I actually flew into outerspace to a place that I can only describe as colors and an angled like tunnel. I also try to fly really fast but is difficult.
@solarwind40 I have trouble remembering my dreams too, it's all about when you wake up though and which sleep state you are in. You could be waking up from a non REM state (dream state) in which case you won't remember what you've dreamt. If you goto sleep at the same time every night, try setting your alarm at different times. Or like Craig said, taking a 1/2 hour nap is usually enough to drop you into REM. I personally find that I recall my dreams more when I've overslept.
Cool vid as ever Craig, but one thing...could you PLEASE do the new inmate brew vid asap!!! It's a recession!! haha. Keep the vids coming man. Cheers from Ireland
Good stuff Craigman. I'm a big flyer in dreams. Ihave had those lucid dreams waking in what was my room but all unrecognisable stuff around me. I recall going close to the wall and checking the intricate detail of the wallpaper. It was not my wallpaper. The detail was amazing. I seem to always remember them vividly after the experience. With the flying I seem to know that I have the permission to fly and I have zoomed into the stratosphere with one jump! Amazing! also flying just above the trees
I tried to get into lucid dreaming awhile back, because of some unintentional lucid dreams I had. Unfortuantley I didn't stick at it long enough to intitiate any lucid dreams.
I've probably had 3 lucid dreams in my entire life, every single one of them involved flying. The last one I had.. I was flying outside of our galaxy and I flew into the milky way, then I flew past all the planets in our solar system and went through meteor showers etc, then into earths atmosphere to land, what a ride!
I get lucid dreams often, i also dream i am other people not doing anything exciting just every day mundane stuff when i have them dreams i can be male female young old i have no idea why i have them but they can sometimes be very dull going to work then waking up for work lol.
Okay, those of you who are having trouble lucid dreaming. Your not giving your best effort! Come on!

If you have a symbol or crest that you have on a journal or something, that symbol will start to appear random places in your dream.
A good reality check IMO.

Hi Craig
About 20 years ago (when I was young and experimenting) I was laying in bed trying to sleep after an evening on pot and amphetamine.
I had a really odd sensation - I was laying next to myself.
I know I was not asleep because I could never sleep on amphetamine. The experience was vivid and totally clear. I could actually feel I was next to myself.
Wasn't frightening, just strange. Lasted about 5 minutes.

Great Video ! Check out my lucid dreaming vids !!
CharlieChittenden527 2 years ago
your lucky, i can only remember 2-3 times this happening, but its interesting what you say about sleep position.

Great video on dreaming! thx

were you listening...it wasn't a rant, nor a negative comment... I pity anyone involved with someone as shallow as you seem... Again, chill pills can be found at any of your nearest pharmacy's.
Axeheum 2 years ago
Hey there LJ myster!! Let's get somethin straight muh friend....you have absolutely no inclination about the context of my comment so do not be so quick to judge me! I saw other Craig vids, which I am a huge fan of I might add, where you did the same. Someone decides to make a comment ,sometimes silly or whatever, and you then, MR. GREATER THAN THOU, figures, ahemm, "you should not make comments like that..ahem ..I am Craig's moderator....give me a break!! and take a chill pill!!!!!!!
Axeheum 2 years ago

Later

This is kind of weird, but most of my lucid dreams happen when im being chased by dinosaurs or something else. and ussually i cant change where i am but i can control what i do and whether whatever im running from catches me or not. and they say if u die in a dream u die in real life, and i know im not gonna die so if i get sick of being chased i just let the thing catch me and i wake up.
brookasaurus1282 2 years ago
@brookasaurus1282 Your comment about dieing in your dreams and so it happens in real life, reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode.

I fly in my dreams very often and I love it!!
Awesome topic Craig

I use to lucid dream when I was a teenager, but now I can't remember what I dream any more.
solarwind40 2 years ago
@solarwind40 I have trouble remembering my dreams too, it's all about when you wake up though and which sleep state you are in. You could be waking up from a non REM state (dream state) in which case you won't remember what you've dreamt. If you goto sleep at the same time every night, try setting your alarm at different times. Or like Craig said, taking a 1/2 hour nap is usually enough to drop you into REM. I personally find that I recall my dreams more when I've overslept.

Amazing! also flying just above the trees
sbbinahee 2 years ago
I tried to get into lucid dreaming awhile back, because of some unintentional lucid dreams I had. Unfortuantley I didn't stick at it long enough to intitiate any lucid dreams.
I've probably had 3 lucid dreams in my entire life, every single one of them involved flying. The last one I had.. I was flying outside of our galaxy and I flew into the milky way, then I flew past all the planets in our solar system and went through meteor showers etc, then into earths atmosphere to land, what a ride!
