So what your basically saying is that in the long run (even now) its gunna be the social networking sites is whats guna matter not the search engines? BUT GIDEON i have a PROBLEM? i dont want to share or tell my friends on facebook/twitter bout my videos..im 17 and in highschool i dont want everyone to know just yet! i have a fear for that?
Wait...people are already IN Google when they're typing those terms in. If you compare the 3 sites in Compete, you can see that the gap is closing, but there's no "hockey stick." Yes, Facebook traffic is growing significantly and Google traffic has dropped a bit over time, but use more accurate stats to make your case and you'll be more credible. You do raise some interesting points, but I need to see evidence that people are finding goods and services through Facebook before I believe it.
I went to Mikes video to check it out. This is the type of thing that really could be the downfall of social media. Automation is cold, and empty. Is that how you want to be treated? With competition growing daily on the net we need to embrace each potential customer and make a connection with them. I agree social media is king but this is not the correct approach.
Why would more people type " google " into google than people type " facebook " ? They will already be at google.com therefore not having to type " google " I understand your main point of users focus is turning toward social platforms.
The stats are what caught me, great reminder that a social media strategy needs to be implemented along with everything else. I have also watched from afar trying to learn how not to spam. Maybe I will learn from your videos.
Search engines are still the best way to reach customers. Social media sites are for "casual" browsing while search engines are for doing "research". You are correct, people can't search for a product they don't know about. Which is why they search for solutions to problems, and why advertisers buy niche-related keywords to connect with their customers.
When it comes to niche markets, what are the chances you will have a friend share/recommend exactly what you are looking for that day?
The whole "viral" thing really is over-rated... the spreading isn't 1 > 3 > 9. In most niche businesses, it is far more likely to deteriorate over time. You might use paid advertising to get 5000 visits, that will recommend to 500 > 50 > 5. So the original visitors actually make up 75%+ of your user base. The share-rate isn't somehow magically exponential.
Whenever I hear someone recommending a "go-viral" strategy, I wonder if they would also recommend a "lottery ticket" savings strategy...
You mentioned that people can't search for a product if they don't know the name, but I would disagree. People don't search for a product by name. They search for solutions to their problems. That is why search engines are so much more effective than social media today. People don't know what they are looking for until they search for relevant keywords (which is why advertisers buy niche-relevant keywords and not product-name keywords).

I watched Mike Koenigs video and it was great. I had watched few of his other videos before ($200 studio, video interviews etc). Those were amazing as well. It would always remind about you and the strategies you used to discuss on your blog and in the RapidVideoBlogging report. It made me to go through your report again and implement a few things instantly.
Great video again Gideon. You have really made us think now. Will it be Search Engines or Social Media?
It's all about business development and the progress done analytically making any party is identifying strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat. As Marketing Philosophy is concerned, every business party moving forward with these driven factors; product driven, sales driven, and customer driven.
As a user (like me) must look into it for what thing giving advantageous to my business. As innovation I defined it as; create new or new extension to the existing or duplication or synthesize.
I'm getting my videos now. I love video marketing, blogging and find sometimes Facebook gets a bit dull for me and twitter...well I see where people tend to spam their links a lot so I'm getting my cup of hot tea and going to watch the videos! Thanks db
I just saw the movie Social Network last night and I was totally blown away and motivated to get involved more. You raise some excellent points in this video Gideon...Thanks and I'm off to watch Mike's video.
Good job I have some social network accounts with facebook and even the one time front runner Myspace. I like the facebook fan pages more and more especially to add some html on the front of a fan page just helps attract people to sign up to our stuff!
Twitter, I need to go back and do that properly I think lol!
@WayneTully1 The way you feel about Twitter is the way I feel about Facebook lol! I really need to fix up my strategy there a bit... or at the least, just figure out how to use it properly for my business!
@JayHyphenMichael Ah good old Yahoo answers! I have used that many a time as well in the past! Although, nowadays if I want a quick answer, I just tweet it and often get multiple responses back. Such an awesome time to live in!
um..... the reason google and youtube aren't going as high as facebook is because:
1. Why would you go to google and search for google?
2. There is a link to youtube on google, you don't need to search for it.

PS If you factor Bing's increase into this comparison, search engines as a whole are gaining traffic, not losing it.
