i think i have an explanation for this

this is based completely off me guessing

i'm guessing that quick sidehopping through his line of sight bypasses the cutscene of the guard catching you if you keep sidehopping, and skips the cutscene altogether if you get to the next zone.

so i'm guessing he saw you when you jumped past him, then you slowed down, allowing him to carry out the cutscene of throwing you out.
