  • Good soundtrack to kill NVA to...

  • classic tune

  • Thrilling...

  • Where has all the emotion and meaning of music gone to. I cannot believe how good this music sounds. I get caught up in this music of yesterday, nothing like it .Grass Roots your fantastic.

  • It still sounds great!

  • Voices great, the arrangement incredible something that Miley Cyrus cannot get from a song even The Jonas. Feeling is what you don't see in today's music only idiot stances. Irreverent, wild, romantic, and clever were the 60s and 70s until the middle part of the decade/.

  • please bring this music back!

  • love it

  • this is one of the songs of that time that had ,timeless rythym, for many years i get a good groove ,when listining to this band, and its a song that I will aways enjoy singing

because this is a great song wandre

  • Wow… all day everyday! <3 xo

  • I just went back 30 years to my youth when all the incredible feelings were happening for the first time!!! I'll never forget how this music made me feel!! It will live in me forever.

  • @cinema57 I feel the same way, your thoughts match mine exactly!

  • Everyone's eyes, especially a girl's eyes will do that to ya, bearing down on ya, with more iris / color in them....it's like they're spinning around 1,000 plus RPM's, bearing down into your soul, attracting you to her to kiss her or whatever else...

  • I'm 14, and I grew up to this music. My parents played this when we were growing up. I'm so thankful for that but if i got any wish at all I would wish to go back and actually be living when these legends were creating this music <3

  • hey....local bands around the world are making great music..just like this...unsubscribe from the machine....

  • Great group, great song..love it.

  • real music for now and then.

  • I would never trade this era ....peace, love and drop the tops

  • One of my all time favorites. I was in the 8th grade. Looking through my my my my soul.

  • Wecome home buckster and thank you .

  • @MrWillie5877 I second that, Buckster!! Ant to ALL like you!

  • trying to critique one's preferences for musical production, is like trying to critique one's preference for art, design, or whatever,, it's a fool's errand

btw,, Lenon/McCartney were songwriters par excellance,, that was their strength

  • im 20 :) and I love the grass roots, I got hooked on this song because my dad, used to play the cassette all the time in our 1986 Plymouth Reliant, I can remember always wanting to play this song first at the age of 4, and 15 years later the memories live on, I have another 86 Reliant and ya.. Good ol Times!!! may I say TODAYS MUSIC IS SHIT!!!

  • @kcarman88 Old cars.I remember going to the gas station in 1961(I was six) with my dad in his 60 cherry red Chevy. 28 cents a gallon I think,or maybe 29. This thing was the balls, big 8 under the hood, maybe a 350. I didn't know much about motors at 6 years old. In 1970 my cousin came back from Nam,and pulled into my driveway in a brand new Corvett. I was the envy of all the other 14 year oids in my neighborhood. Loved growing up then.

  • I am a young person (20's) and I have no interest in current pop. This remains one of my favorite songs. I like to think my parents raised me right.

  • This is from an era when music was good.

Nothing like the filthy crap of today.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • I don't think that all young people have bad taste in music, I think it's just what they're exposed to. To bad anymore it's not very good. I blame it on the parents for not showing them the way.

  • @052teresa You have great insight. I could not agree more. My 32 year old son loves admitting he's discovering the REALLY great music like this.

  • @palehorseone Nice :O). It parallels the political times/how involved people are in what's going on. When there's upheaval, & people's HEARTS are open, they're passionate about what's happening (Vietnam/assassinations/anti-war protests/"free love"-for better or worse- etc) & the music is better. When they only care about how much MONEY they're making, the DOW Jones avg, etc, there's no heart/soul-& the music SUCKS!!! Like now-financial system hijacked, unjustified wars, very few care! Ron Paul!!

  • @palehorseone its the best, no doubt, but at 28 i must say it doesnt inspire one to pull capers, invade homes, sell heroin and drive porsches, otherwise its cheerful music and definite talent

  • let's talk about the great music he made, not how he's dead. Eventually all youtube videos' top comments will be R.I.P.

  • saganemc2: i 100% agree with you that we need better music.sorry today's artists that don't sing good, but you are being turned down by people who doesn't like your -(negative)type music.a lot of us like music on the+(positive)side.especially tunes like this.thanks for posting great tunes.

  • When I hear this song, I'm home again. I feel loved and secure as my Mom and Dad sit at the Breakfast table with me . I am not dealing with self-centered and selfish clients. I am simply a 10 year old in summer of 1971. I am riding my bike with the guys. I am trying to understand the preteen puppy love feelings with Pattie. I am swimming with six friend in the above ground pool and enjoying with them my Mom's homeade Molasses cookies. Oh, what I wouldn't give to go back for 24 hours.

  • @jeff62rey Wow Jeff, thats exactly how I feel. Remembering coming from school and playing outside, this music was blasting from my neighbor bedroom enough for me to hear it outside my house. This is before video games, I was climbing trees, playing dodge ball, and knowing my Mom was waiting for us with a smile and a warm dinner. I thank my neighbor for exposing me to Rock music right from the beginning. I know how you feel Jeff.

  • @obear3000 Someone should author a book that could weave all these memories and music into a story that could powerfully take us all back; a riveting story like Stephen King might write. Imagine what a runaway seller that would be.

  • @jeff62rey I so agree with you, but I was born 18 years too late, lol. As happy as I am to be able to do more at my age, I also long for the days where I didn't have a care in the world--just being a kid. Riding my own bike, getting filthy in the dirt, swimming in a small private lake that nobody really knew about, fishing with my Grandpa, and enjoying life. But hey, at least today I still have a great fun life. :)

  • we need more of this TODAY!!!!!!!

  • @saganemc2 yes :)

  • love these guys music since 1981when i started finding old 45s by them.and also love my girlfriend too and think of her when i hear this.love you B.J.

  • love love this song my fav 60-70 group

  • i was in viet-nam at da time this song came out and you know what i love it

  • @buckster5325 Thank you for your service and sacrifice. I lost a brother in DaNang, june 1968.

  • @brenb1211 then in that case WE should be thanking YOUR LATE BROTHER, for HIS contribution,.... And YOU for your CONTINUING sacrifice! I'm Awful sorry for your loss, But what the average soldier / Airman/ sailor / Marine went to do there was A noble thing. Unfortunately, They were sent there for the purpose, then not allowed to fulfill that purpose. Still, At least he didn't have to be SPIT ON for trying to do the right thing, despite OTHERS PITIFUL mistakes! god bless, happy holiday

  • @buckster5325 Same here buddy. That and Bee Gees Lonely Days, Lonely Nights come to me. How great were these guys!!

  • @buckster5325 ,,,so was i but i think we were on other sides

  • ah high school music! always loved the GR. still sounds fine.

  • I loved Warren

  • 3 people suck.

  • Three people did not get loved tonight.

  • I don't care what anyone says, the classics are AWESOME!!!

  • My FAVORITE Grass Roots song! Thank You!!!

  • One of my favorite songs and groups from that era. Thanks.

  • Summer of 71' and I was a senior. Georgette was very inviting and I was determined to date her. I was such a jerk, but who cares at that age. I would roll into her driveway, a puffed out rooster, in the old man's shiny black Pontiac. She turned me down four times before she finally accepted. I had finally put the act away and started to just be myself just like Mom told me to be. The last six weeks of summer '71 were heaven on earth and this song was playing.

  • @jeff62rey Even though I have known this song for a lot of years(since I was a kid) They still played 70s music a lot on the radio in the 90s lol, I sometimes wish I lived back in that time. A black Pontiac sounds exciting!!! I had a Pontiac but now my dates get picked up in a Ford Taurus lol

  • A classic!

  • Wow, its so good to hear these guys again! Brings back lots of memories of high school and my steady boyfriend. Crazy fast cars, fishing at night, school dances, going to the drive-in! What a great era in history to be a teenager!

  • sang along in high school, sang along just a few minutes ago...

and I still remembered all the words~

    great band.

  • @suziQ27 me too....loved this whole album :))

  • What a great song! They are best!

  • love this song! perk of having an older sister! lol :)

  • One of the truly great groups. Great music always from this band.

  • I was this geeky sophmore in the summer of '73. I guess I had some pretty low self esteem back then. Thank God my parents finally kicked me out of the house that July evening in '73. Mom gave me $5. "Go to Vito's Pizzeria and pick up a 14' pepporoni for supper. " I went and as I waited for the pizza, this girl I had seen at school named Valerie ordered also. She sat and eyed me. I shyly looked back. She came over to talk while we waited. Brunette haired, blue temptation eyes!

  • @jeff62rey Well, don't keep us in suspense... Did you go out with her? What happened?

  • @BeeCeereeus I got up the nerve and asked her to go a dance that was being held at the YMCA. I was a walking pile of nerves all the way up the ringing of her door bell. Her dad took me in and had 'the talk,' about being a good boy and all that. After dancing with her for an hour, all the nerves were settled and I wonder why I didn't come out of my shell earlier. She still kids me about my 'shy days.' If you didn't guess; she's still my beautiful wife.

  • @jeff62rey Awwww, now *that's* what I'm talkin' about. I Love happy endings!! I am so glad you got over the nerves cuz this is every guy's issue at some point or other, I think. (Guys, take note: Be confident! Ask her out! What's the worst that could happen?)

God Bless you and your wife! Thank you for sharing your Happy Ending! *Big Smile* :D

  • The warm up group for The Beach Boys...Jersey City, NJ ..Fall 1968

  • can some1 tellme wats the guy name down right he is cuteeeeee:)

  • @lacherryruby It's Creed Bratton from The Office. No joke. v=9W2YuVuHZDc

  • @cengime thanks :)

  • GREAT SONG THANKS FOR POSTING!!!!

  • So love this song and this band. Grew up with an older sister who turned me on to some good music. This was just one of the old bands I got lucky enough to get to hear.

  • Rob, you are sorely missed, forever remembered and never forgotten. Rock on brother.

  • Great song. RIP Rob Grill you were the greatest!

  • S-w-e-e-t.

  • RIP Rob! You were the leader of this great group for over 42 years!!!!

  • awwww..that is great you love what your dad intoduced you to. my son loves the oldies too! the 60's and 70's the greatest and best rick n roll ever!!

  • RIP Rob :'(

  • What an awesome classic song this was!

  • R.I.P. Rob Grill who recently died from a fall. God Speed!

  • i miss you rob i cry every time i hear your voice. your music allways made me happy. you were the ROOTS.

  • Such a shame when the lead singer and whole reason I loved this band dies from a stroke and other singers that have passed as recent as yesterday die because of their chosen life style of drug abuse and alcohol. RIP ROB!!!!!!!!

  • @BlackSpyder73 I want to make clear Mr. Grill did not overdose. He had a series of strokes and he fell which lead to a coma. He would have been 68 yrs. old this November 2011. He also suffered from a bone disease which was very painful for him through his later years.

  • @hz11287 I never said he overdosed!! I love him!! He was my biggest crush in JrH and HS!!! I am not sure where that would come from. I kept track of his life and saw him everytime he came to Indy!! Beleve me, I would never ever day a bad word about him!! Loved the Grass Roots better than the Beatles!!!!! :)

  • @BlackSpyder73 I know but I wanted to make it clear to all the fans and everybody reading these comments. You know Rob Grill once said in an interview that The Beatles influenced him and that's why he became a musician but I'll tell you this I love The Beatles but Rob Grill was better looking than all The Beatles.

  • @hz11287

I was ALWAYS of the opinion that back in those days it was all about marketing. There were more than a handful of groups back in that era that were relatively unappreciated. IMO, the most overrated band of all time was The Beatles, yet their marketing was second to none. Vocally, The Grass Roots, among others, blew them away!

  • @4tomoconnor

So, you're saying, The Beatles were overated and blown away vocally, by The Grassroots. Just listen to more Beatles.

  • @4tomoconnor ARE U HIGH?

  • @MrCaseydiggz He's gotta be. That or stupid as hell.

  • @MrCaseydiggz ...Not at all. Many groups of that era were vocally superior to The Beatles. It takes more than vocals to launch a group. I never stated that The Beatles weren't any good, merely that they were overrated. Were the Beatles vocally superior to Roy Orbison, or to Jay Black and the Americans? I think not, yet they were immeasurably more successful. Epstein knew what the heck he was doing.

  • @4tomoconnor The Beatles just had two of the best singers in history...that's all. How were they overrated? I get it, Beatlemania happened for no reason back in the day talent REALLY mattered....and there music lives on to this day and will for many generations to come. I like the Grassroots too but let's face it, they were not on the scale of the Beatles.

  • Con't: As for the British Invaders, Gerry and the Pacemakers and Peter and Gordon were every bit as good as the Beatles were vocally, yet never even came close to approaching equal fame. I believe that it had just become fashionable to like the Beatles, even though half the time their lyrics made no sense, and certainly were not exceptional. Then questions like "Are U High" or just "stupid" because some of us were a bit more open-minded, and recognized the true nature of The Beatles.

  • Requiescat in pace, Rob Grill. Great musical legacy. Thanks!

  • SEXY!

  • Rest in peace Rob... I am almost 60 yrs of age now... your music gave hope and inspiration to me during in my teens and still does to this very day... Thank You

  • R.I.P Rob grill you will be forever missed

  • @oldstylebud816 : I know a lot of people have taken an interest in this group because of Creed's success in The Office, but the truth is that Creed left the group in the Summer of 1969, about a year before this song came out. Still a good song, though!

  • love music that is happy, fun, and can sing too.

can't wait till the rap junk dies out

  • RIp ROB!

  • This song still gives me chills. RIP Mr. Grill.

  • R.I.P. Rob Grill.

  • RIP ROB!! YOU WERE MY FIRST CRUSH and LOVE as a teen!!! :(

  • @BlackSpyder73 Me too!! He was & is terrific......

  • RIP Rob Grill

  • Rob - it hurts so much to lose you. God bless you. Thank you for the great memories.

  • @palehorseone It does hurt. I feel like I lost a part of my teen years and all that great music, although we'll always have him. Saw him in concert a dozen times, and he never failed to entertain. Another great one goes to Rock and Roll Heaven.♥♥♥

  • RIP Rob

  • Thanks for uploading this video, I love this song,I was 9 back then and now 50. The Grassroots, Box Tops and other goups in this same class made good top 40 records at the time of the late 60's into the early 70's though this is not bubble gum music but it did blend or fit in because it's good decent pop rock.

  • Nice song, people and sing and have a good time listening,

junk out today is nasty filth. Cant wait till rap and gangsta garbage dies out.

so sick of every other word. being the F or M F word.

    this is Happy Music!!!

  • @TheQueckie I agree and I'm with you, rap, gangsta and hip hop is gotta go because it's not music, it's nothing but band bish bash boom, thats not music and all they do is nothing but tlak, thats not singing and they all sound the same and they're sending out the wrong message of violence, drugs, gang banging and fowl language. No class at all!!

  • Get well Mr. Grill!! <3

  • Oh..Temptation Eyes looking through my my myyyyy soul

  • Sounds as good, if not better, than it did when I was in high school!

  • temptation eyes you gotta love me tonite, hey i am 50 as well!!! we should have a web site and all contribute our fav tunes, now thatz a site i would visit everyday, think about 40 and 50 somethings HUH? PEACE ALL

  • Growing up to this music was great! It was happy music ...feel good music. These songs bring back great childhood memories for me when life was a bit more simpler, before internet, texting, the media in your face 24/7.

  • @carouselgal True, but before we all get dewey eyed and nostalgic, I think Youtube is one of the best creations in my (longish) lifetime. To be able to find long forgotten songs, and find new ones (I've never heard this great tune until today) and we can share our thoughts with people from all over the world! That said, modern music is crap and the best stuff is from the 60's and 70's! : )

  • @crowhillian58 i'm 57 my heyday was 60's and 70's had a stroke recently and i come on youtube to relive my youth.i feel real good right now. i cry a lot from the memories but its all good i fught depression everyday. i had all the records in the 60's and 70's they were 19 cents at garwood mills atlantic city nj!

  • My dad told me about this song a few years ago and I instantly love it! My dad has the coolest taste in music ever! HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO YOU DAD! WE LOVE YOU!

  • @malot Don't know your age but glad you can appreciate your dad's taste in music! I grew up on this music and remember seeing them on American Bandstand...

  • I was 5 years old when this came out. It reminds me of being at the drive in theater with my parents listening to the music on the drive in speaker. Good stuff.

  • God they were great songwriters. Damn.

  • good band a few hits.lets live for today their best song...got their hits on cd...

  • I miss Art Bell :(

  • Cant say crap without rap.

  • AMEN SteelersProud1

  • i love these old songs....

  • I agree with MegaBob, if I could have a time machine I would so go back to these days in a heartbeat !!! The music back then was awesome and you could actually understand the words lol

  • GxGsKuRizma is a Moron

  • i think the three people that disliked it just accidently missed the "add to" button (:

  • Wow! What a kick-ass band ! A REAL band with REAL music & talent. They kept my toes tappin' thru the 70's AND 80's as I continued to play their music & other Rock Bands thru alot of the disco era. Great song great band!

  • This song sure brings back a lot of memories.

    Thanks.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Love this song . I feel so fortunate to have been a teen when the greatest songs were written and performed.

  • lol - what jackass could dislike this song? I mean really...

  • @blackjackwally I don't know... Even if one doesn't like 'old music', I think this song is very good, and one of my faves...

  • When this came out KISS was forming but was Wicked Lester, Ace Frehley was yet to join the band at the time.

  • THIS IS REAL ROCK 'N' ROLL, MY MAN.

  • I'll dedicate this song to the women from Scudder Hall from Suny New Paltz while I roomed there from 82 to 84! They were some of the most precious people I ever met on this earth! Sincerely, forever, BobbyK

  • @bobby7771117 what the actual fuck are you on about?

  • @bobby7771117

    so...hows it goin? LOL

  • creed!

  • Yes, I remember hearing this on the school bus on the way home from School--1973/74 Miami Florida

  • When was this released? I remember it got heavy airplay on radio in 1974 when I when to visit the relatives in Canada.

  • Great Song!!! Thank you. We Play all these great oldies on my channel

TOMA'S TIMELESS TUNES, 1 hope you'd come by and check it out. see see we like the same type music. I subscribed to your channel, hope you do the same. i look forward to seeing you there. thanks, Tommy Toma.

  • BEST GRASSROOTS SONG!!! Or at least the most memorable for me.

I was just growing into radio at the time. AWESOME memories!

  • Every time I hear these great oldies my mind always goes back in time.

  • @falcosfan1 - that's because music is tied to time. That's why it has a time signature 4/4 or whatever. It relies on time so it therefore triggers time travel.

  • The Grass Roots TOP SONG!

  • It's funny seeing how you people are referring back to your high school days with this song. Every time I hear this song on the radio, my mother always brings up her high school times with this song. She was a dancer, and they danced and did those amazing high kicks to this song! Incredible! She must be the same age as you all, because she was about my age at this time. I must say, being a freshman this year in HS is quite a joy and memory I'll never forget. This music beats the rest I hear now
