I forgot about that tag team. On the WWF ARCADE video game they were better than the legion of doom. Im talking about big boss man and the arab dude. But the rockers were pretty awesome too
I love listing to Gorilla! (0:13 - 0:17) "Jess we have one guest referee here today, you wanna be another one?... RELAX!!" ..... Jessie "THE BODY" / Gorilla Monsoon / Bobby "The Brain" Heenan... The 3 Best commentators EVER. If one of these three were'nt commentating any given pay-per view, I could'nt careless about what was goin on in the ring!!
shawn's overselling was one of the reasons i became a fan....best was when he first became hbk and would get catapulted into the corner by an opponent and almost hop in the air before flopping on his face..
One Man Gang(Akeem) nearly killing Shawn Michaels "Stan Hansen Lariat" style actually strikes me as something that Shawn probably deserved for being the huge prick he is well documented as having been.
@frednichols what? are you a retard? you can clearly see that he makes himself land on his stomach, logicically anyone would just fall back down to their back morons
I don't know. I was always a fan of the double clothesline that someone did to the Rockers once. It was Barbarian or Warlord, I THINK at a Survivor Series, and they BOTH sold it with huge flips.
Jim Cornette is right, we have gone from a time where wrestlers were not hurting themselves and people were believing it to a time where every wrestler is hurting themselves and no-one is believing it! This was the best time in wrestling history and this clip shows how you don't need to do flying somersaults through burning tables to sell a move. Great contrast of styles too.
Wrestlemania V was the first wrestling tape I ever bought back in 1991 or 1992, and I can still remember watching in absolute awe as I saw this particular moment. A friend from across the street came over to watch one day, and he kept having me rewind to that clothesline every time Shawn landed from that tremendous sell. There's no telling how many times we watched it before we continued with the rest of the match.
@TomSmall3 no chance in hell. JR, Joey Styles, and of course Gordon Solie all rank above Monsoon. Even without those guys, I still probably wouldn't vote for Monsoon. Something about his announcing style just rubs me the wrong way.
Gorilla and Jesse = greatest commentary team in wrestling history. The chemistry they had together was unbelievable, and every match they called felt IMPORTANT because they were calling it. Gorilla was fantastic with Heenan as his partner, too.
@garethac81 : Well, for PPVs anyway they were. The Monsoon/Ventura combination was good because you had to guys how both were eloquent speakers, had good chemistry, and both had their own charisma. It was a unique perspective because that could help us relate to how it feels in the ring being two legends themselves. Monsoon knew just about every hold that existed, and every body part. Ventura would for the most part stay unbiased when with Monsoon which made it more intriguing..
Yeah, Dolph Ziggler is the only one today who could possibly sell as well as this. Though I will say that even though she's retired and she's a woman, the way Trish Stratus sold Christian's clothesline back in '04 was pretty damn good too.
@DSGodiva Its a shame Stratus isnt full time anymore. She was one of the few lady wrestlers - along with Lita and Victoria i belive, but especially Trish - that were better wrestlers than most men
Akeem found Shawn Michaels masturbating into his gym bag when he wanted HBK to jack off into his coffee instead. Shawn Michaels also owed Akeen over 500,000 dollars in back pay because Shawn stole all of Akeem's money and his family. HBK's current wife and kids are really Akeem's family. Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker ruin lives. It's just like how the Undertaker stole all of Ric Flair's money and his family and that's why Flair has to wrestle 300 times a year for TNA to pay off Taker's bills.
@MySpaceSuckx he oversold it? that's debatable... that thing looked nasty. if anything, i'd say he reacted appropriately. that shit would hurt, i don't care who you are.
There was a certain something in his voice that I just can't specify, but it made those years so wonderful as a young wrestling fan. I need to start buying me up some of those classic WWE PPV's on DVD.
Now that's how you sell something, pay attention Cena, and learn something from Ziggler. Damn, Michaels looked like he was out cold right after he hit the mat.
The genius of this clothesline is in Shawn Michaels selling it like a fucking champ. Has there ever been a better seller in pro wrestling? I would be hard pressed to think of one.
I Think you guys forget JBL's clothline from Hell ....??? Batista also admit that JBL's Clothline from hell is the ony finisher which he never want to face...
@philaman1972 I remember that match, too. The rockers were still some what new, but it was the 1st PPV for the Towers. The Rockers dominated that whole match (maybe 10-12 minutes) until that hellacious clothesline. LOL.
@ThePhantomCreature: No, their first PPV together was Survivor Series 88. Team Megapowers (Hulk/Savage/Koko/Hercules/Hillbilly Jim) d. Team Twin Towers (Bossman/Akeem/Dibiase Sr./Haku/Red Rooster).
Ive always maintained that this was the greatest clothesline ever!! Never been able to watch it just once lol always have to rewind. I love Monsoons reaction.
Fun fact-according to Shawn's book from a few years back, both he and Marty were very hungover during this match as a result of having too much fun from the night before. Considering this event didnt start until 4:00pm, that must have been one hell of a hangover!
@MrElsuperj no he is right...akeem aka the one man gang currently does work as a prison guard. He's saying its ironic bc his tag partner the BossMan was playing a prison guard as a gimmick-although it was a gimmick based on his real life
@faustbanana He was really overweight back then, in fact he wasn't able to work more than a 10 minutes match, that's why he went on a strict diet a few months later, and by the time of WrestleMania 6 he had lost at least 80 pounds, and was in great shape, therefore Vince gave him a reward in the form of a big push, eventually facing Curt Hennig at WM 7 for the I.C. Title. :)
@christianbeardall: Given all the people who Shawn and the rest of the overrated drug addicted jerks in the Clique pissed off over the years, you'd think something like that would have happened more often.
