If your eyes and your m.a. knowledge good enough, despite the bad quality of the video, you can see Bruce is unbelievably fast and really really good. On the other hand this is just a spar and the guy he's sparting with is probably one of his student which he knows by heart...

Lee used to work out at Grandmaster Trias's dojo in Phoenix occasionally. Grandmaster Trias once told a group of us that he had green belts who were better fighters than Lee.
Of course bruce beat Wong man, otherwise he wouldnt have been allowed to continue to teach non chinese, but he did. people who think he lost are just haters and trolls.
Whether or not Lee won against Wong Man is unimportant, although according to all of Lee's camp they won, and I don't doubt he did. Everyone forgets that that fight occurred before Lee's extensive muscular training, after which I doubt anyone could win against lee.

It's amazing how fast Mr. Lee was in connecting his punches and kicks. On top of that adding weight training to key muscles of the body to add effective strength behind each attack but it doesn't stop there. He also integrated other techniques from other fighting styles to improve his knowledge. During that time period when integration was not allowed from schools teaching martial arts. Mr. Lee was seen as an early mixed martial artist and pioneer.
Bruce Lee gave away his position for free to make it more easy for his sparring partner, also he only used his right arm and leg to counter. In fact, Bruce Lee could have eaten all of the soup from "way of the dragon" durings this fight.

@willkc8088 He was a professional tournament fighter. Bruce Lee was the inventor of a brand new martial art, and a VERY effective one at that. It's purpose was not to show superiority in tournament style competitions, but to actually save you from a dangerous situation, where in order to actually survive you would have to use every means possible (gouging of the eyes, biting, hits to the groin, diaphragm and throat...).... I'd pick Jeet Kune Do over ANY other martial art any day of the week..
@kostasviper I don't know about today's versions of Jeet Kune Do, I think Krav Maga is pretty dangerous as well. Lee was somewhat confusing when it came to style, he developed Jeet Kune Do and yet in interviews he talks about having no style and that having a style limits the indiviual. He said to be like water. And as far as gouging of the eyes, biting, groin hits... that is just old fashion street fighting and requires little training. You just have to be wiling to fight.

In order to be able to take punches to the body/head, learn how to put combos together with punches, etc. you must GAIN experience from actual fighting. If you get hit enough you will UNWILLINGLY go to sleep, but if you take YEARS and YEARS of punches your "chin" improves. That's why boxers have such good chins, those guys hit insanely hard yet can literally take HUNDREDS of punches.
Lee trained and that was it. He wouldn't make it in MMA nor Boxing, he'd get taken out QUICK by an average fighter. They do arm punches like girls, flick their hands disperately, rigids, most of moments is really embarassing. And once again, look how many rules they actually respect. Look to some bare knuckle fights between Thais and Myanmnar Lethwey (Burma boxers). Watch a Mike Zambidis higlight or his match with Chahid in 2010 (even if there are gloves).

Because none of them were proven to exist. For instance, his high school boxing career. The high school he went to does not have records of boxing competitions in Bruce Lee's time. The rest of the fights are second and third hand story's. Sparring eventually with his students is one and sparring with ranked fighters other.

I dont see why BL needed to lie, he wasnt even famous at that time around the fight, remember when you lie everyone has to lie, including bruce's students and the opposing side, yet the only person to disclaim it was WJM, the fight was witnessed by many of both parties, u cant cover up something like that.. He was aThiai Fighter, but, dancing came, according so some articles, from watching Mohammad Ali and training in boxing style. On top of that adding weight training to key muscles of the body to add effective strength behind each attack but it doesn't stop there. He also integrated other techniques from other fighting styles to improve his knowledge. During that time period when integration was not allowed from schools teaching martial arts. Are you fucking kidding me? As Bruce Lee himself said, "boards don't hit back". In other words, this has nothing to do with actual fighting skill, which is the only thing that is in doubt here. Why do people doubt his skills? Because he never competed, he did not spar, and he seems to have made up stories about fighting, none of which were recorded by anyone, including the ones that supposedly happened on movie sets surrounded by cameras.

@Ljenkins9000 See Chuck Norris interview on Lee. Norris spared with Lee for about a year after their movie together. Though, Norris does not elaborate except to say the both of them never fought to see who was better. But, Norris does say that he was a proffesional fighter and Lee was, indeed, not.

@willkc8088 He was a professional tournament fighter. Bruce Lee was the inventor of a brand new martial art, and a VERY effective one at that. It's purpose was not to show superiority in tournament style competitions, but to actually save you from a dangerous situation, where in order to actually survive you would have to use every means possible (gouging of the eyes, biting, hits to the groin, diaphragm and throat...).... I'd pick Jeet Kune Do over ANY other martial art any day of the week..

@kostasviper I don't know about today's versions of Jeet Kune Do, I think Krav Maga is pretty dangerous as well. Lee was somewhat confusing when it came to style, he developed Jeet Kune Do and yet in interviews he talks about having no style and that having a style limits the indiviual. He said to be like water. And as far as gouging of the eyes, biting, groin hits... that is just old fashion street fighting and requires little training. You just have to be wiling to fight.

He's sparring against some small ass frail asian guy that probably never fought professionally.
In order to be able to take punches to the body/head, learn how to put combos together with punches, etc. you must GAIN experience from actual fighting. If you get hit enough you will UNWILLINGLY go to sleep, but if you take YEARS and YEARS of punches your "chin" improves. That's why boxers have such good chins, those guys hit insanely hard yet can literally take HUNDREDS of punches.

Lee trained and that was it. He wouldn't make it in MMA nor Boxing, he'd get taken out QUICK by an average fighter. They do arm punches like girls, flick their hands disperately, rigids, most of moments is really embarassing. And once again, look how many rules they actually respect. Look to some bare knuckle fights between Thais and Myanmnar Lethwey (Burma boxers). Watch a Mike Zambidis higlight or his match with Chahid in 2010 (even if there are gloves).

Roof top fights back then didnt have no refs unlike the one on the TV show, there are bad WC and Good WC, good WC can tackle different situations. I think they wanted the 2 guys to stick to the form becos they ended up boxing instead of doing WC hence the rules. besides rooftop fights there are challenges that took place just about anyway. Old HK was like the wild west minus guns.

There is not like a non restrictive rules, which would mean every part of the opponent body is a target and all 9 limbs ( or at least 8) are to be used. They rely on punching and kicking (4 limbs), system one hit-stop, another one-retreat, and just above the waist. There are also another more things considering the details, specific sparring moments.

Because they were living in a time when martial arts were dominated by the mystique of it, people believed movies were real, etc., not unlike a lot of people today (like you).

Of course u R going to get the ones who think BL is god, I might slate him also if none of them are high achievers, BL rocks becos he had a lot to offer, especially to the ones who get him. u have to understand before BL we humans didnt know that man can move the way he did with so much power and speed, hes dynamite. Bruce not only mixed the arts (which have been done before ) but he also mixed the physical dynamics of different arts to create efficiency in movement

listen what sugar ray has to say about bruce, look up 'sugar ray talks about bruce' why would the best p4p boxer in the world say those things about bruce if he was not convinced bruce was the real deal, i think people like you who dont get bruce lack the intelligence to grasp what bruce pocessed. boxers are not fighters either, they lack the all rounded game.

Because none of them were proven to exist. For instance, his high school boxing career. The high school he went to does not have records of boxing competitions in Bruce Lee's time. The undefeated British boxing champ who Bruce Lee purportedly beat, Gary Elms, does not seem to have ever existed outside of Bruce Lee's mind either.

@BKKaye that's the main problem...the only fight Bruce Lee ever claimed to have was against Wong Man Jack, and overall the outcome is under dispute. No source says " Bruce won" but all sources say " controversial match, outcome under dispute....according to Bruce thing were happen like this....and according with WMJ thing were happen like that". The rest of the fights are second and third hand story's. Sparring eventually with his students is one and sparring with ranked fighters other.
