I think Def-con was supposed to be modeled after the Powerdasher Jet toy, that was available as a mail in order when you saved up robot points from your toy packages.

There was 3 different powerdashers and you got sent one at random, either the car, the jet, or the drill tank.

its a pity Defcon made only one appearance and it was in this episode. I liked him as a character.  Even the fearless Dirge was afraid of him

At this rate, there should be the 'rise of Gamblerbots' ... LOL! Now that I am thinking about it, maybe this is what the Autobots really need against the Decepticons. While the 'Cons tend to overmatch the 'Bots with firepower and exotic techs whenever they discover them before the 'Bots, the 'Bots should play differently, and out-gambling the 'Cons may not be such a bad idea :P

Devcon also appeared in the comics, but never in a large role. Two different figures were proposed as Botcon Exclusives, but never made. Who knows, with the 25th Anniversary line this year, maybe there will be one finally.

Valuable lessons I learned in this episode:

Pollution can be beneficial.

Using your friends as bargaining chips is acceptable, particularly when they cannot remember how you almost screwed them over later.

Creepy little green aliens never are out of a job as somebody's sidekick.

Gambling is just fine as long as you have Optimus Prime's seal of approval.

No human's where featured in this episode. Everybody was alien so the writers where able to get away with some things. However they did

fuck up on the english writing on a bunch of the establishments that was on this alien moon! If they fucked up anywhere it was with the Earth writing in itself. If you ever watched Beast Wars they never used any types of Earth writing except for on the golden disc

and Depth Charge's Cybertronian ship.

Artisan, Defcon looks alot like Blurr and sounds alot like the caharacter Kup. I'm assuming its the same guy that voice Kup in the TFmovie(86).
