i would classify nevermore as progressive simply because they are heavy, but don't sound constipated like black metal vocalists do. that's another big part of prog metal besides the complicated time signatures and mood shifts. then again, they are unclassifiable just like meshuggah, disturbed, tool, and several other bands that simply don't have a genre, or are a combination of many.

Nevermore is neither Thrash nor Progressive. They are unique to put in simply. Yet to call them progressive is inaccurate; they are all technically proficient musicians but as a whole their music is not progressive in form or style. If I had to follow the metal genre naming guidelines I'd say they are "American Dark Power Meta.l" But that just sounds stupid. . . Lets just say Nevermore are bad ass, and not concern ourselves with pinning them down to a genre!

@Zekesilva1 I saw an interview with Warrel Dane where they asked him about Nevermore's genre. He said, and I'm paraphrasing, I don't know what we are but I really don't think we're Power Metal. I have to agree. I don't see any similarities at all. Some of their song structures are somewhat progressive and I think the lyrical content is more in the vein of Progressive Metal than any other. But over all, I admit that they defy categorization and I have to agree 100% with your last statement. \m/

Nevermore does play thrash metal. Are you saying that Chris Broderick, who used to be a member of MEGADETH, isn't a thrash metal guitarist ? And Jeff Loomis ? Dream Theater, Opeth & Tool are progressive bands. Try them, you'll see the world between Nevermore and progressive metal... whatsmore, there is nothing typical of progressive music in Nevermore's style.
