  • I just been reminded about the magic of....magic.When that does the "mind read"in front of all those ladies of course they know hes not really reading the girls mind, but its like that temporary "make believe land"which enables us to go with the flow.

    interesting

  • the world needs MORE AMAZING DISCOVERIES YOUTOOB VIDS

  • If you have the complete Amazing Discoveries Memory Power episode, I would be willing to buy a copy from you via Paypal. I was a paid audience member for this episode (as well as 3 others) and lost my copy years ago.

  • the first one is a really simple card trick, but yet very nicely performed :D foolled everybody in the studio

  • Noice Jumper.

  • Jonah, I am not saying the cards can't be memorized. I agree they can and my speed is competition level. What is being said is that he did not memorize them for this informercial. As a matter of fact this was deleted in future showings. Harry stated that he never uses psuedo demos and this shows that he did. Maybe he didn't do the actual demo but it was done on his show and rather poorly as I might add.

  • @goetzfan darwin ortiz in his book strong magic mentions that harry would force a card and then pretent to memorize the deck to figure out the card the spectator(which were his memory students) took. darwin mentions its not that harry couldnt do it for real but he just took the easiest road.

  • Beleive me, he did not memorize the cards at all. The entire demonstration was staged. If he did really remember what was left then there would be no need to false shuffle the cards, cut the cards after getting them back, force one card, and then recut them before getting on with the actual (?) routine. These are magicians terms for the trick that was done on this particulair video. I am not arguibg with you because I beleive it can be done - it just wasn't done here.

  • Actually you are rigth that this can be faked, but I have memorized cards myself using memory pegs and I know with practice I can get faster. I do not yet know how fast youcan get, but card images are familiar and pegs can make things go fast because your used to memorizing pegs and card images all the time. New images you learn to make yourself stay longer, but pegs keep consonants and numbers consitaent and names with similliar endings can reuse te same images when meeting people.

  • Lorayne would memorize poel he met by face and name with more people to remember than there are cards in a deck, but I can not confirm all of what is clamed to be possible untill I get better at memorizing. False shuffles are best when you do not see the cards and need to keep the order. You can memorize fairly quickly, but I do not know the top speed of memory with Harry Lorayne techniques.

  • what is the trick called that the last guy does ? thanks

  • hahah its funny to watch three magicians hustle a product like that

  • Anyone can do the missing card stunt but if you can't see that this demonstration was completely staged (which was the discussion) then you were completely taken as well.

  • RIP OFF?!?? You should be ashamed. This is no trick. ANYONE can memorize the cards, or do the missing card trick; ANYONE. He may have rehursed it for the video taping,

  • You can't even remember how to spell Rehearse...

  • You cant think of a better response, than to attack grammer, (like it matters on the internet anyway,).

  • I saw this episode many times back when it was on in 1990. I don't know what got me to liking this show, let alone at the time, but I also remember College Student Mark Sischer going through a numbered list of items called out by audience members one at a time. The list went as follows: 1. Cat 2. Hairclip 3. TV 4. Pencil 5. Watermelon 6. Cadillac Car 7. Mickey Mouse 8. Pancake 9. Space Shuttle 10. Arabian Horse
  • Mike also read a letter.

    Dear Mr. Lorayne,

I was a Prisoner of War in N. Vietnam. Surely before I was shot down, I bought your memory course. As a POW, we had no reading or writing materials and to rely totally on memory for sanity, entertainment and organization. I taught hundreds of my fellow POWs your system and, we in turn learned how to interpret foreign words, poems, speeches, philosophy, biology, the list is endless.

  • And here's the very special part that got to Mike:

This opened up new worlds of mental activity, which was so important to us, since we were isolated from the world for such as long period of time. I am deeply indebted to you for creating this system and sharing your knowledge with the public. Just want to tell you how much your work meant to all of us behind the bamboo wall.

    Col. Arthur T. Ballard

    U.S. Air Force, Ret.

  • Wow, Sal Piacente actually mentionned my nickname? I completely missed this row on the cafe. I talked a bit about blackjack systems, Harry just didn't get it, and I bowed out. Now the posts are deleted. That's pretty funny. I'll have to track down Sal someday.

  • The card counting trick that Gardner explains with the cancelling out 13's works well when there is only one card left. Hiawathe leaves 3 that is unseen. Also the force and cutting the cards back to the bottom was very poorly done. I understand that there were claims that there was no psuedo stuff being done and this just proves that there was.

  • Btw: I don't think that this counts, as it's an infomercial. If I was the director I would use a trick to do it even if the guy could really achieve it. It's just cheaper, and that's important since you're paying for the lights the set and stuff like that.

It's like when they don't use real chocolate in a chocolate publicity.

    ps:The ego joke was funny.

  • You have got the method wrong: What he does is calculate the cards. Martin Gardner published this effect, I don't remember it quite well, but you had to add the numbers till you got to 13 and then start again, that gave you the number, for the suit I don't remember.

I'm pretty sure that that's the method used here.

Also: If he could remember the cards he would name them one by one, and not get someone to chose a card. The idea of ruling one out is absurd even if you do memorize the deck.

  • To a PM I received, No he did not memorize those cards. If he did he would have had a world record for back then (as well as now). Ben Pridmore just broke a world record for memorizing a deck in 28 seconds.

  • @goetzfan I dont know why I am responding to a year old comment but here it goes. Ben did memorize the deck IN ORDER in 28 sec. Who ever did that in the video didn't memorize the deck in order, he just memorized what cards were there. This is completely possible to do in under 28 sec.

  • "Recently, someone talked about your[HaLo] ego & told me[Sal] that mentalists buy your books so they could force the word I."

that made me laugh very hard :)

  • Thanks for the upload mate! Loved it!

  • what a scam artist. no one memorizes the cards like that. this was totally faked
