How to Remove a Processor

why do you have to remove the thermal paste?

I fucked up my PC doing this! =) I'm using amd athlon xp 2500+ processor and I put the thermal paste on the middle of it and when I turn my computer on it stays on for 3 mins and then shuts off! Why? My processor is Super old from 1999.

@ZayLong I think it depends how much is on it, because I took out my Grandpa's processor out and there was basically no paste on it or the heat sink.

quick question from a guy with no experience with the inside of a computer: is it possible to swap an emachine processor with a hp processor? the hp processor will be going inside the emachine (asking because i have a 1.8 ghz and want to play assassins creed)

why do you have to remove the thermal paste before you removed the processor??? is it dangerous to health of something??

Props to you, man. I didn't get the last bit, where you had to pull the lever backwards to make the processor "pop" out.
