  • FROM PORTUGAL

    Beutifull song i ever dsigged

  • FROM PORTUGAL:

May be the best song ever after transmision from Joy Division

  • I have always liked this one a lot, almost like an English ABBA song, or something.

  • Sandinista! Is easily their greatest under-rated albums.

  • i could hear this song 100 times a day and still like it.

  • @JeffHokie i listen to it at leas 99 times a day...lol

    : )

  • Sounds a bit Christmas.

  • @ytownbs yes it is!

  • So 'it it!

  • Would blast this on the jukebox and couldn't stop skanking

  • cuz that's where arcade fire stole it from anyway....

  • this songs mixes great right after arcade fire's 'wake up'.

  • Tuddydunning, that may be right, but after all these years I'll always hear "so hey".

  • Comment removed

  • I realize that. I'm just saying it reminds me of this song in particular.

  • It was meant to, that is where the title comes from. It is a play on Motown Hitsville U.S. A.

  • What never ceases to amaze me is how far the Clash moved from their original sound and still retained a integral Clashness in everything they did and that includes this tune which has to go down as one ot their most unusual efforts. As I've said before the best Uk group since the Beatles

  • kind of sunds like church music lol

  • I'm a big Clash fan but I don't like this song at all...

  • @rjnrf It's not for everyone, but I'm sure you can appreciate their versatility

  • @DarthXboxian ya for sure its amazing how a band's music can change so much but I was really disappointed when I listened to sandinista. It had some pretty good songs but i thought most of them we're bad. I guess it just isn't my thing. I'm not sure why.

  • @rjnrf I kind of agree with you, i myself haven't listened to sandinista fully because it didn't really seem like my thing either, judging from the bits and pieces i've heard from it. But i heard this track in a movie called Millions, and i started to fancy it as i heard it more and more. Still, The Clash is one of the greatest bands ever :)

  • Iateyourmomsdog, thanks!

Never gets old! My favorite part is when the sound stops and Mick says "So hey" around 1:58.

Hearing this almost brings tears to my eyes!

  • @chief007nwfdn I'm glad you appreciate the upload. :]

The Clash will ALWAYS be my favorite group!

  • @chief007nwfdn 01:58 "so hit it" ???????

  • @chief007nwfdn ,i thought he said 'So hit it'

  • ..Topper takes it away.....

  • you said it !

  • Jalapaneno - Yea baby!

  • For some reason (I guess Mick) the subtle part from 2:32-36 really appeals to me

  • did anyone know that the girl from the show night court is singing backup(not Markie Post the first one)

  • @panzercat1939 never heard of night court but if her name is Ellen Foley then that's her.she was Mick Jones girlfriend at the time of this recording.

  • Is this hitsville UK?

  • SO HEE EETT

  • SO HIT IT

  • Sounds like one of those Austrian/German drinking songs.

  • @degree7 I've been listening to this song (and thoroughly loving it) since the album was released back in God knows when and it has never struck me as being an ooom-pah-pah drinking song. You have a fertile imagination my friend (but I like it).

  • @bathamsbottom

lol It was actually a friend who pointed it out to me, I'm not as imaginative as him.

  • fucking brilliant

  • The clash changed american music forever

  • @MrErn25

If I may, they were British... Just sayin'.

  • i gotta say this is the the only clash song i dont like, but hey every band has there duds and every other song is amazing

  • ....so 'it it! How groovy is this shit!?

  • who sing?

  • toppers drumin !

  • to get oiut of the cbs contract the clash turned sandinista ! into a triple and paid for the other two discs out of their own money

and so its the best one

  • Comment removed

  • one of the greatist bands ever

  • does anyone know what elen poleys solo album is called?

  • @paterson44 The Spirit of St'Louis, which includes some Strummer-Jones written songs.

  • @36clashfan77 many thanks, i found the album i was looking for which was Nightout

  • what was the song on the b or a side i had a 45 please e mail with the answer

  • I think that Sandinista! is undervalued wrongly by people who aren't able to realize the importance and quality of this album. Just my opinion

  • this is class.. needs to be played loud.. and i am...

  • my best fav of them

  • oh yes, Millions! Love that movie

  • Such a good way to follow up the magnificent seven on Sandinista!.

I would have to agree that if Sandinista! was a more cleaned up double LP it would have garnered as much praise as London Calling. Great album regardless. The Clash changed my life.

  • @jeffreybiderpdee You could say that Sandinista is to the Clash, as the 'White' album was to the Beatles, but with less discord in the band and less heroin. =) In some ways it's better, as it's more adventurous, as some of the tracks (Hitsville UK, Career Opportunities, that "Waltz" one..forgot the name) completely throw you off and you wouldn't imagine it was the same band.

  • @jeffreybiderpdee strummer said maybe it would have been better as a double or even a single but defended it `warts and all`.

  • Greatest Clash tune ever. Period.

  • First ever gig aged 13 - Birmingham Bingley Hall in 1981! (Later burnt down...)

Couldn't hear anything for a week afterwards... (I was too near the speakers)

  • The Clash...They could do any type of music they wanted. The depth of this band is incredible.

  • guess who is singing back up

  • SO HI-ET

  • Top ten songs by the CLASH. Their creativity was awesome. The only band that matters, the rest can kiss my candy a%%%.

  • YES.. Could of not express it better YES YES .. best

  • Lets dance.

  • :) my dad loves this song!

  • not as strong as the material on 'this is england' though

  • LOVE this Clash! <33

  • guess who is singing back up

  • ellen foley?

  • The way he says "so hit it" is so totally awesome!

  • The way he says "remember" is pretty cool also!!

  • THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERS ... The Clash

  • the best!!!

  • best song ever.

  • great song

  • Montreal loves The Clash! I love The Clash!!!!!!

  • so hit it ! :)

woooooow it's so cool; when u're depressed, JUST LISTEN TO THE CLASH !!! and the smile comes back :D

  • so 'it it...

  • Isnt the women singing on this song that old toad ellen foley?...I remember her on vh1 mocking mick jones...with that horrible comedian carol leifer

  • yeah she was on night court before markie post

  • i love this song to the fullest ..oh my god just hear its enormity. I love it. On the other side, Lauren Mike JOnes daughter is too pretty, sexy..i loved her lips man...Those lips are like lotus petals. I love her singing

  • Grande música

  • I love this song ^^ from japan!

  • A label actually made their name 2minutes59 based on this song.......they have awesome bands signed with them....

  • i dare you not to tap your feet ... go ahead, i dare you! -- love this song, love the clash ... RIP Joe

  • Used to great effect in Danny Boyles film Millions

  • Que hermosa cancion de The Clash es una obra de arte musical, con una extraordinaria melodia y que mas pedirles con esta cancion se han ganado la cuspide para mi.

  • I love this song!! I haven't heard this song in decades!!! And Ellen Foley sharing lead vocals; didn't she also sing with Meat Loaf?

  • @RDG484

yip folley sang on the bat out of hell lp for $40 a song session so was well pissed off with it's success.

  • @ascotsmaninusa : whats ellen folleys soslo album called..i used to have it years ago.

  • This musis is not performed by Joe, but by Mick and his girlfriend Ellen Foley.

  • i <3 this song

  • diw=die? I confess my ignorance I didn't know.

  • th i meant die, it was typo i do apologies mate...

  • No apologies needed, I didn't know Joe Strummer had passed; not that I didn't know it was a typo. If that makes sense.

  • THE CLAHS ROCK.....n.b they are british....we do always seem to produce the best artists...*sigh* what can i say, we do rock..hmmm This song is 'lightening'

  • Comment removed

  • There is no sound like this..The Clash.. is still as ASS KICKING the CLASH can reunite and STILL KICK ASS.. 2008..

  • you do realise the lead singer, Joe Strummer, did diw in 2002...it is sought of impossible for them to reunite...

  • Thank you for pointing the issue on Joe Strummer.. just was attempting to point that the CLASH would still put a music that people would love.. like this one.. kudos.. M8

    Peace

    Frank x

  • One of my favorite Clash songs. So like them to do something different all the time. Yes Ellen Foley is the featured vocalist and Should I Stay Or should I go, is about Mick and her relationship issues.

  • just fine, you're welcolm.

  • にやり

  • the Clah's answer to the "Hitsville USA" founded by a music record label in Detroit

  • I love this song, although it sounds almost nothing like usual clash fare.

  • yes indeed, mick jone's girlfriend at the time....

  • thank u

  • Wasn't this with Ellen Foley singing?

  • cool song!

  • Totally love this - and quite interstingly different for a Clash track. Bliss :)

  • iateyourmomsdog, you have the coolest name on u tube.

  • :) haha, thanks!

  • Thats your opinion and yer entitled to it. Nuff said.

  • possibly their most clever song.

  • They cried the tears, they shed their fears,

    Up and down the land,

They stole guitars or used guitars

    So the tape would understand

Without even the slightest hope of a 1000 sales

Just as if, as if there was, a Hitsville in U.K.

I know the boy was all alone, til the Hitsville hit U.K.

OH i love this track, could listen to it all day long, even have it as a ringtone on my phone lol Ellen Foley has a distinctive voice

    Clash Forever!!!!

  • Reminds me very much of "You can't hurry love" by the Supremes

  • town called malice also springs to mind

  • then again this album came out in 1980 and town called malice was released in 1982.

  • Check out "I'm Ready for Love" by Martha and the Vandellas!!

  • @wilbar2922 It was meant to. The name is a play on Motown Hitsville U.S.A.

  • If I remember, the next song on the album was "when Ivan meets G.I. Joe' right?

  • actually, there is a song in between Hitsville UK and Ivan Meets G.I. Joe//

    Track 2: Hitsville UK

    Track 3: Junco Partner

Track 4: Ivan Meets G.I. Joe

  • One of the best singles by the Clash. After almost 27 years- it's aged rather well.

  • omg i Love her voice it's like a Punk Angel...lol Mel! i love LOVE You hun!!!...

  • The mutants, creeps, and musclemen,

    Are shaking like a leaf,

It blows a hole in the radio,

When it hasn't sounded good all week,

A mike 'n' boom, in your living room, in Hitsville U.K.

No consumer trials, nor A.O.R., in Hitsville U.K.,

    LONG LIVE THE CLASH!

  • show a s club 7 or eg against this please.

  • It's actually Ellen Foley singing most of this, with the guys doing a bit of backing vocals.

  • una canzone conosciuta poco ma fottutamente bella! thank you for posting it!

  • I agree Snalli! Great stuff here. :-)

  • I think this is one of their most underrated songs. I love it. Thanks for posting it.

  • Nice video...better song....no a really monumental track .. a nod to Cr@Ss no doubt.. and how the critics hated this album stopped me buying it... and I could've enriched my life for an extra 1 year 2 months if I'd just got it..rather than listen to the nay sayers

  • critics hating the album is no excuse! NO excuse, I tell you!!

  • Most critics hated it because of it's different sound, but alot of critics gave it top grades due to its originality. Also, you'll probably have to listen to it alot to like it alot. It's my favorite album of all time, you should definately get it.

  • it also shows of the members instrumental skill especially topper. his work on the album is phenomenal

  • xylophone playing?

    haha

But yeah I agree. Fantastic song.
