It's the owners fault for not keeping the animals separated properly. I have an Anaconda and a Boa constrictor and a cat and my cat is perfectly fine. You know why? Because I don't put a giant snake loose in the same room as a cat. All this talk about criminals and killing the snake is bullshit. 100% owners fault. Killing the snake will not bring the cat back. Unless you are going to eat the snake, there is no reason to kill it. That snake was doing what it does naturally. If this is in Australia, then the snake is a native species and the cat is introduced.

Therefore, the snake gets priority over the invader.

If the snake was a pet, released into the wild where it is not native, then the snake owner owes the cat owner restitution, and a new cat.
