  • Ok, I am a Broadway musical buff....but I have to say that after watching the origional cast performance of Sweeney Todd..via youtube.....THE MOVIE IS WAY BETTER! The Broadway version was weird, and the acting was over done...even for Broadway. The movie was just brilliant, but the Broadway musical was a joke, and is on my list of Broadway musicals I hate!

  • lol "The ingredients were somewhat questionable" I hated this movie :p so depressing especially the end

  • Does anyone notice Ewy calls this movie great?

  • I have to agree with you. It seems like Tim Burton could have made this 2 completely different movies. They could have made it what it is now, or he could have made it a non musical and just stayed on the violence. I was really tense watching this movie in theatres so I would be like "Holy shit! Look at that blood! Oh my god!" then a song would come up "Oh ok. Now I can relax a bit now" I did enjoy the movie however.

  • I would have DIEDDD if i nevr seen this movie! i luv johnny depp! HES SO HOT

  • yeah i agree, don't agree with a lot of the stuff being said. And this review isn't very professional, i'm off to watch somebody elses review! :D:D

  • I HATE this dude!

and if Tim Burton had a city i would live there!

Johnny Depp and Carter are awesome!

    and not to mention HOT!

darkness is the best he doesn't know what he's talking about!

    hehe

    eat each other!

  • this person talking obviously knows nothing at all.

  • lol! thanks for posting!

  • I agree lets get Tim Burton to design a city would be so cool.

Loved this film so dark yet so fun to watch.

  • nice film...i l0ve j0hhny depp...

  • It's disgustingly bloody;it bothered me just to think about the effects of this kind of stuff on young and influential people...fucking hollywood guys ,they just don't care !

  • Kids shouldn't be watching it anyway, that's why it's rated 'R'.

  • it doesn't matter if its rated R!

most movies with Johnny Depp in it are rated R!

i'm 12 years old and almost all the movies i watch is rated R!

  • you suck!

and nobody here really knows the awesomeness of blood!

    it's so cool,

    but people just don't understand!

  • I've noticed that some teens like blood ;why is that;what's fascinating about bood ;would you like to be all fucked up and get your own blood out of your body...i don't think so,you wouldn't find that so fascinating.

  • If you just want to watch this film for the blood- you shouldn't be watching it.

  • That's why it's an 18...

  • it's more about revenge than love

  • I DON"T LIKE HIM!!!!!!!

  • FANTASTIC FILM!!!

  • " does anyone name their child Sweeney?"

" it doesnt make sense to be Sweeney Todd...should be Todd Sweeney, they were trying to alphabetize it"

Funny yet stupid quotes. and yes that person should stop saying "sweeney"

  • stop saying SWEENEY!!

  • i love the movie i thought it was great alot blood but johnny depp can sing

  • Out of the hundred or so musical fans I know and have spoken to, only one or two have really complained about the film but still accepted it in the end. The rest adore it. So I don't know who you are talking about immediately rejecting it as a know-it-all. We WANT movie musicals to be good again. And finally, they are with this one!

  • People are allowed to have different opinions from you, you know.

  • What? It wasn't an opinion, and I didn't even state my own? lol He stated that know-it-alls would immediately act like "this is crap" in the theatre to show off to others that they know the original. I didn't do that and I have never seen anyone do this. Most fans of the musical love the film. I know people hate this movie, well aware of it, actually - I'm on a message board where people come to complain about it and tell other people not to see it.

  • I think I replied to the wrong message... O.o;

    Fuckin' YouTube.

  • lol no problem... I've done the same.

  • 4:34 - Johnny once again forgets he is not playing Jack Sparrow. Of course this is due to being thrown off by having ridden into London on a large ship at the beginning of the movie. Poor Johnny.

  • He's not playing Sparrow ? It's just Depp's voice, and the accents are similar. But if you really knew the accents from these areas of London, you could tell the difference. People from that area of London have commended Depp for his accent in this movie.

  • LOVE this movie! It's one of my favorites. I don't normally like musicals but this one was amazing.

  • Bloody movie

  • depp does it again IF YOU LIKED THIS CHECK OUT MY VIDEOS CLICK ON MY NAME

  • genious review, well done, great movie

  • Heh, Burtonville would truly be an odd, unique place!

  • man, your a dick.

    use your imagination

  • I enjoyed this review. I am going to see the movie tomorrow and I am very excited. Thanks for the articulate and humorous review!

  • I have to say the Romeo and Juliet mention is appropriate. I just saw the movie and loved it. The pie lady lies to keep the two lovers apart, so I am reminded of Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers--tragically falling together because of misrepresentation and lies.

I'd rather hear a review from someone who does not like musicals. True bias would come from someone who loves them. I don't usually see musicals, not to say I dislike them, but this was a pleasant surprise.

  • his name isnt sweeney his parents named him benjamin barker

and furthermore i dont think people who dont like musical movies shouldnt review them because then its bias

  • First off, he changed his name when he came back to London from Australia. If you watch certain trailers you'll see.

I strongly agree with you. That's why it's not very popular, is because people don't like musicals turned movie. That's why everyone's going to National Treasure.

I, personally, think that the songs are appropriate for when he's killing people. Because you don't know what's going on/went on unless they sing it. And furthermore, this is my favorite movie in the entire world. =]

  • mine too!

  • In the movie, Sweeney Todd changed his name from Benjamin Barker to Sweeney Todd. Sweeney is not his real name.

Not all humans like dark bloody stories. I do not, but I did like the music, cast, and story. I don't think the sound effects and so much blood was necessary. One slit in the throat and alittle bit of blood dripping down the neck is enough for me. Does anyone else agree?

  • sween y todd is real i have seen a drama of it and it said based on a true story and it was in the London Dungeons

  • I never understand why people say they don't like musicals. Often they have no problem with music videos and even Disney movies (which are musical) yet somehow people singing in a movie just undoes them. The reason to write a musical vs a written line is because what the character has to express simply can't be expressed properly with mere words. Lol, I wouldn't call most of the music in Sweeney of a "happy little song" variety.

-A Sweeney Todd Musical Fan who actually liked the movie.

  • I think that most people are just uncomfortable or not used to the form of a musical. It's not their fault, but I do agree that they should give it a chance.

For me, the moment when acting and singing can come together in a perfect synthesis...it's just what i live for :)

  • his name isnt sweeney idiot, it's benjamin barker

  • read title douufus. its s.we.e.n.e.y

  • you must be one of those sweeney snobs who, despite his alias AND THE TITLE OF THE MOVIE, insist on finding someway somehow to comment.

I just saw this. I get the romeo and juliet...to a point. I don't want to give too much away. But both lovers are so close until the tragic end. The good news is that his daughter and the young man will be together.

  • the name sweeney todd comes from oral legend..it's no one's fault.

the romeo and juliet comment is completely off. if the lovetts and the barkers tried to keep them apart and they were killed because they loved each other at the end, then yeah, sure. But that's totally not the story at all.

  • Antony and Johanna will be together yes. But (in the stage version more than the movie you see this) Johanna is a little..off.. she's inherited some of her parents' madness, and I doubt that they will be happy, stupid lovers for long.

  • i really don't agree with this person's review...romeo and juliet and "cute" little songs...i highly disagree.

  • I loved this movie.

Umm.. in the begining the guy makes no sence cuz that isn't sweeney's real name.. its benjamin

  • HAHAHAHAHA that is so true! I went to go see this movie with a bunch of my friends and they ALL loved it and I was the only one who hade complaints (I know the original very well) LOL!

  • I guess I'm one of those people you shouldn't see it with. And I saw it. And I thought there were good points and bad points..mostly bad points, but I did go into it with an open mind. So please knock off that stereotype too.

  • 6) I'll give you the same answer to "I don't like musicals" as I give anyone- You probably don't know any good musicals well if you don't like musicals, which it absolutely sounds like.

    7) "All musicals throw in body comedy" Can you PLEASE stop making stupid generalizations..please?

  • I think that's "bawdy".

  • 3) The main plot of Sweeney Todd isn't a love story at all, it's a component yes, but it's not a "love story." Also, "There's hope in the end" WHAT HOPE? The two main heroes are dead and in the musical the company accuses the audience members of being exactly like Sweeney Todd.

    4) How is it like Romeo and Juliet...at all?...like.. at all?

    5) Alan Rickman is decent..but every character he plays is the same.

  • Sorry..I just really need to comment.

    1) How are the songs "cute" or "little" at all. They're actually quite complex and heavy, and Sweeney is considered one of the most brilliant scores ever written..the movie score is..not as brilliant, but I think it's completely unfair to call any of the songs cutesy..

    2) "It's almost opera." You don't know what opera is. Do you?

  • By the Sea was cute.

  • Yeah it was. It's funny though, because that was the one song I didn't like as much as the rest. I felt it was a bit too light hearted for this kind of story. It was still great, though. Just something funny

  • The original version of Sweeney Todd was cosidered so over the top that it was almost operatic.

  • I'm curious to see Johnny Depp sing...or rather hear. How is that?

    I love Rickman too.

  • i wont see it till jan 25th! but i already love it.
