Cold shivers listening to this now! I've always considered this Stellenbosch talent the most distinctive female voice in S.A. rock history. Just love her!
I recall she was part of the Tulley Mculley(?) wrkshop/production house, and they did really good stuff. She was from Stellenbosch, I think. Great voice, big production, love it!
I saw Lesley Rae in Grahamstown at a show in the early 90s. Grahamstown Arts Festival when it still was. What a performance. Saw Nataniel then too. And Johannes Kerkorrel. Moments I will never forget.
oh boy, I can't believe the amount of talent that South African musicians have, and yet they never really hit the big time, such a shame.. travelling down memory lane with all these amazing songs by South African bands... really great.. thanks for sharing and reminding us how talented we Saffies are...
Yes, I heard that too. She was apparently very shy and all her music videos were shot at her home in Stellenbosch. The original music video for this song was amazing.
Wonderful memories come to me with "The Spaniard". I received the first album of Lesley from a friend in South Africa in the 80s. Apparently she was heard of only in South Africa, at least nobody in Chile knows about her. Wonderful Singer.
A beautiful woman with a brilliant voice and style.
I had two of her albums in the early 1990's. They got lost when I moved. I found the album on the web and imported it from SA with "Unravished Brides" as well.
one of the most beautiful voice to come out of South Africa, great talent

Pity our SA artist was not promoted enough overseas. I always thought LRD was our diva. She could have been our own Annie Lennox.

Thanks for the upload!!
NB - I have heard that one reason she never became HUGE is that she did not do well on stage - anyone else heard/know if this was just rumour?

Yes
She had quite a few shows where she had such stage fright backstage she never came out and show was cancelled.
