If you need a whip, your a bad rider, and i feel sorry for your horses, abd youll never form a bond with them, i ride bareback and bridless, with voice trained horses, no kicking or whipping, that means the horse has no respect for you and you really shouldnt be on it in the first place, poor horse, atleast he can rest in peace now and not have the hell beat out of him for entertainment
Yall ppl that are being rude need to shut up. My horse requires a whip. She whips just as much as i do and my friends do. Its called whipping ever heard of it. Yall need to lay off.
Some ppl might not have to but. It does improve you time. So shut up.
Anyone who says that this girl and this horse didn't do their job properly you obviously just want to make their mistakes right and this pair are amazing
This isnt the world record... its the 3rd fastest time in the world but not the 1st and he was 23 when he died. (ik a guy that is friends with his owners and he was in the stands when HotShot ran this time. He also likes my horse witch made me like freak out.)
@1233Maya no it was actually the world record.......... it has been now topped by 1 1 hundredth of a second by nicole aichele or whatever her name is. Up until Nicole's run-this was the fastest time on a standard WPRA pattern EVER ran.
@quarterhorselover100 they did not run him to death, 24 is a pretty good old age for a horse and some horses go down hill once there retired the life kinda just leaves them cause they have nothing to do, just shows you how much he loved his job being ridden
@ilovepreciousjim2 Oh I thought he was like 26 or something.. never mind. he had a big heart. And i know he loved his job,all of my horses do... I mean who doesn't like barrel racing?Right now hotshot is running barrels in heaven
@1233Maya The NFR arena doesn't have a standard pattern. Standard pattern is 90' between first two barrels and 130' (give or take ten) between them and the third. The NFR arena is way smaller and has a way smaller pattern, therefore the time numbers are smaller too.
They did a study in Europe about whipping your horse and they found that whipping your horse repeatedly did absolutely nothing to improve your time in a race once you're already going. A nudge with your legs or a single reminder tap is all you need. Just work with your horse more so you don't beat the crap out of them and put them in pain for doing well. Positive re-inforcement is much more convincing.
It's not the pain the horse respond to, hitting with the whip is more of a signal. It means you gotta go faster. They know that the pressure and tapping on their hindquarter or shoulder means they need to move their feet. When barrel racers use the whip they use it during their run for the short home stretch. Yes the usage can be overdone, but it is not here.
@ZepRidesItRight she came in hitting not just on the way back... and a tap can be helpful yeah.... but a tap is what i do when my horse thinks he's gonna say no. just a light pop to say pay attention. I tap she wacked. If u think that was taping then ur vesion of over used wacking mush end with the horse dead or somethin. (he'd probly run fasterif she didnt kick so much but ik she didnt kick on the way home but still. thats just somthing i hear the pro barrel racers ik sayin)
@1233Maya@1233Maya Horses wont put up with pain, if this horse was being hurt and was irritated do you really think he would have set records and be as accomplished as he was?
@ZepRidesItRight some horses will my horse got a huge sore on his side from the girth and i didnt know so i rode for about 2 hours and he never stoped or anything. Im not saying shes hurting him im just sayin i dont think that mush whip was needed. With all that going on he probly didnt even relise she was whiping him.
Obviously this girl knows what it takes to WIN on her horse. I think its so funny knowing that if half of you complaining about her use of a whip were to watch a girl who really has to kick her horse between barrels you would not think a second thought. Idk if any y'all noticed but some horses respond differently to aids such as kicking and whips. Also if the horse was hurting he wouldn't have worked so smoothly. Truly a beautiful run by one of the all-time greatest horses in the sport.
Tanya is a way better barrel racer than you guys are if she decides to use a whip she can. Horses have a layer of hair and fat to protect them, when I come into the arena Im kicking and whiping as hard as I can.You want to know why?: Im there to WIN.we cant afford motels, gas, feed, trailers, worming stuff, and etc. If you dont push hard enough your never going to win
People you are so stupid! The NFR pen footage is short! Every pen Is different in size very few pens are similar! And the ground changes too! The NFR is nowhere near a standard pattern! Also each pen has different patterns too! Each organization can set up there own pattern, move timers exct! So unless they stake it it's different! At rodeos we run 15 off the fence no matter what in UPRA n CPRA unless the judge changes it.....people are crazy! Keep your mouth shut until you know what your talki
oh my side.. just appreciate the greatest barrel horse of all time and who cares about if she whips him too much or not, like really what is it to yall? bc in all honesty im sure she doesnt really care what yall think, just sayin lol the horse gives his heart everytime you see him run thats all that matters
whiping isn't that bad if the whip is wide because it would make more noise, witch would make more people think its bad but it really doesn't hurt the horse its the noise that makes them go... well thats what i've heard if i ever hit my horse at all or kick him to much he would sling me in the dirt so all i do is kick maybe once or twice and cluck like crazy
@js2188 totally agree with you. Good example of poor horsemanship. Doubt the horse would have run any faster than it was regardless of how many kicks and wacks with the whip she gave the poor thing.
Some horses require a whip. I had a mare who didn't. She saw the arena and knew it was time to go. She LOVED to compete. My gelding needed a little tap to get him to move out. He wasn't the competitor that my mare was. There are certainly some girls who go overboard with the whips. I've seen a lot of barrel racers take stuff out on their horses--especially knocking over barrels. THAT is poor horsemanship.
@tristalistaat a local barrel show there was a horse that was running good, but the girl kept jerking in his mouth and kickng him and whippng him and she jerked him in the mouth and he went the wrong way around the third barrel and she pulled his head to where she could reach it and slapped him in the face and tried to hit him in the eye! The whole way out of the arena he was rearing and trying to lose the girl who didn't stop hitting him! I wanted to beat the girl w/ her own whip!
@Dandyizbeast There is a fine line between helping your horse run its full potential and over doing something that the horse definitely does not like. I agree with you if I saw that I would want to beat her too!!
@ barrelracer1485, the world record you are referring to is for the pattern that is run at the NFR arena, Tanya Steinhoff is running a standard pattern, that is NOT the same size pattern as the NFR.
@ducharmerodeos it isn't bad, so many people think that you dont have to whip and just let them go, that its cruel to use whips and spurs. but if you're not hurting the horse, then there isnt a harm in it. people seriously need to consider that some of us run for NBHA, and you need to be fast to do it, and if whipping mean going fast then so be it, its not hurting the horse
@WranglerBound You should really delete your YouTube account and any other social sites, and maybe bar yourself from the outside world if me typing the word "fuck" bothers you. 'Cause trust me, I'm not the only person out there who uses it.
all u people fusing about whips lay off its not cruel or bad horsemanship! its a rider that knows what works for her and her horse. a horse has pretty tuff skin. im sure u do stuff that other people think are cruel so unless ur stacy westfall and can ride ur horse like she does, just shut up. thank you have a nice day
@neenee1997 Yes, she does need to lay off the whip. That is the only thing I really dont like about barrel racing. The horse knows it has to run... If they had better horsemanship, they'd find a new way.
@obliviouschaos I love barrel racing.. & a lot of the professionals don't use whips but sometimes they need to. && the only reason i whip is because my horse is new & doesn't know that when we are in the arena she needs to run.. but she will catch on & I won't have to as much.
@obliviouschaos Right, because you've been to the NFR and you're qualified to call one of the best barrel racers of our generation lacking in horsemanship? Whips don't hurt, they're ment to encourage a horse to move out. Some people do over whip or use the whip when it's not needed. Tayna Steinhoff? No.
@WranglerBound I'm sorry, did I say anything about having been to the NFR? No, I didn't. And did I question HER horsemanship? No, I don't think I did. I was talking about horsemanship in general. Sorry if you don't know the difference. I was simply stating MY OPINION, which I'm pretty sure I'm entitled to, about whipping the horses when the fucking know they have to run and most of them know their job, especially a horse at his caliber. So please stfu, kthnxbai.
@obliviouschaos Lmao, no need to use the 'F' word. and i'm sure she has her reasons to use the whip. She knows what she's doing. And so does Hot Shot.
@FastestBarrelRacer00 Your comment is ignorant. Learn to use punctuation better. That is great you run 17's with no whip, good for you! If you could read better, you'd see I was anti using the whip.
umm she was running in the allyway after a run and she thought her horse was going right but he went left (or vise versa.. i cant remember..) and she fell off and hit a pole.. she was in the icu for a few dyas
