@jera3 Tobin crystal sync is a device that you can purchase then attach to your 16mm camera so that it is crystal sync at a certain speed usually 24 fps.
man this is the reason why I love film so much. it's the actual picture. it's the actual light going onto the piece of paper. digital is just a replication of it. argh the quest for what is real never ends!
Great advice for those interested in getting started on a budget. Make sure you do some research before buying the camera as some are unfortunately a bit limited when it comes to control (frame rate, focus, exposure, lenses, etc).
This looks great. I've only worked with black and white film. I hope to use color next. I wish it wasn't so costly though. The look beats digital on any level.
looks great...I also love film it just has a special mood about it...you film was good and if edited a bit would even look better...was that a 50 foot roll or 100 foot roll?
Nice video! You can order 8mm and 16mm movie film online. I have a collection of old movie cameras, and I've shot about 5 rolls of double-run 8mm film so far. But I haven't tried 16mm yet. I want to do that next. 16mm is a lot more expensive though.
...I have to agree too that there is just something special about film. Whether it's still photographs, or shooting with movie film, it just has a really cool, unique look to it that you just can't get with digital. The color saturation and tones are a lot better. If anyone wants to try shooting with 16mm or 8mm film, I'd recommend Ektachrome 100D. It's a great film that's daylight balanced, so you don't need a filter. And you can easily order it online.
This is really great looking footage - you have a great sense of composition. It's amazing how some test footage of two guys running around in a ditch plus some well-chosen music would wind up looking so cool!
Andrea Loves Horses by Ghosts & Vodka. Get the album Addicts & Drunks, it's so insanely beautiful it makes me sick just thinking of all the people that will die without hearing it.
I have no idea what stock I used for this. I asked my school for a camera so they dug out a Eclair NPR from the depths of the equipment room. They also gave me some older (refrigerated) film, so I just used what they gave me. I may be able to find the canister if I look around, but it's been a few years and I have no idea where it is now.
How much does the film cost and how much does getting it into a computer cost?

@csselement get a bolex 16mm. they're extremely durable and offer pretty much every feature you could hope for.

film > video

I agree with you 100%. Even with today's 24P HD cameras complete with 35mm lens adapters. Nothing quite matches the magic and mystery of film.
However: film price > video price =)

I would like to know what kind of film you used as well, it should be on the label on your returned reel. Did it happen to be a super 16 camera?
