DOAC was the best time I ever had in an MMO as far as pvp went. It was brilliant because the focus on realm vs realm instead of player vs player allowed them to have a crapton of classes and keep the game relatively balanced where it mattered. Though they still had problems with server population balances. Still a great game until TOL came out. That ruined everything imo.

DAoC suffered from never being marketed, the horrible decisions by the devs, and the giant learning curve in RvR. That being said, 8v8 was the most intense fun that I have ever had while playing any game. The skill and quick thinking that were required is what made it great. People complain about graphics but graphics don't equal gameplay. DAoC in it's prime was a blast.

@FendLOTRO Just because a game has good graphics doesn't make the gameplay any good. DAoC and Shadowbane were the best PVP MMO's of their time, even with sub-par graphics. Honestly, any online games I play I tweak the video settings to low or medium, because I'm more worried about frames per second than "OOO, how pretty!" Aion has great graphics and epic PVP, but the grinding is horrendous.

I never played this MMO. Hope they make another updated version in the future so I can experience this game. People I know who used to hardcore play this still swear it is the best PvP out there and from watching a few videos seems like it verywell was for its time. I just wish I understood what was going on...I dont know what half the UI means, or who is being damaged/healed/etc :( But its still a very cool video.

Dude, I always went combat engi and hacking certs. I also preferred to drive the Galaxies and AMS into a battle as well. That's about the highest amount of strategy in the game was where to drive and what to drop. I also didn't like the sniper rifles they had in the game. You also forgot BFRs and cave battles with modules if you wanted to really try to impress me.

Believe me, I played Planetside religiously back before they made it pay to play. I'm not disowning the game in anyway, it is easily my favorite FPS game out there, but DAoC easily trumps PS in many ways. For instance there's a lot more strategy to PvP in DAoC compared to PS. You can't just run in guns blazing and each class out of the 30+ is designed for certain purposes in combat, such as the Shaman in this video is casting diseases and roots on the enemy players
