@nermlinger1941 His MOS would have been Special Forces. As for timings, by 68/69 everyone was definitely on fast tracking. Your average Infantry Lieutenant was taking 29 weeks from induction to death. I tend to beleive the kid.

By 68 anyone deemed as beyond average in basic was immediately shipped off to Brag to complete their basic then onwards into ”Specialist” training. The average from enlistment and out to the boonie for these guys was 17 weeks. Most on arrival in the shit went straight over the borders into Cambodia and Laos and for many a short life.. Jump school for these guys normally consisted of four days ground,one day tower and three flying exits.

We lost it, in the end, but we fought hard for the freedom of people, just as we did in the 2 World Wars. I dont think that is taught in school in Europe now, and it for sure is not taught now in the U.S. The youth of Europe are pretty ungrateful, though the elders are very grateful.

my grandpa did 4 tours in vietnam, he was with 34th Amour, MSgt Pressley, he was awarded the soldiers medal for bravery in combat, he save several other men from certain death, he was awarded 5 bronze stars during the course of the war. He passed July 11,2011, from Heart and Lung failure, both caused by Agent Orange, he is buried at Leveanworth VA Cemetary, My dad served in Iraq/Somalia in the 90s, he went back to Iraq in 2006-2007 as a Contractor. I enlist this March, Afghanistan here I come.

It was the MAIN reason France wanted VN back IMO. VN has vast resources that will one day make it more of an economic power than most in Asia if it can ever be educated and get Capital. my dad was in the army from 1975-1978.at the time there were a few vietnam veterans left in his unit. he said that many were angry about the way they had been treated by the army and about the whole vietnam fiasco.

A few Royal Marines were in Vietnam on a “Volunteer Only” basis back in 65/66.Although considered to be non-combatants on intel collection they were heavily armed. However, when fired at there is only one course of response any Marine will take. And that’s fire back.XD. Anyway, quite a few ex Royal Marines with dual nationality took the same war road as the Canadian volunteers.

I'm not a lawyer (thank God), but I do believe that all foreign persons of draft age in this country were eligible for the draft. There were not many, but there were some Canadians, British, Australian, and South Americans in my basic training unit at Fort Polk in 1968. Most of the draftees came from American states, and I really don't believe that there were that many foreigners who felt strongly enough to protect us from communism to enlist into a stupid war.

By 68 anyone deemed as beyond average in basic was immediately shipped off to Brag to complete their basic then onwards into ”Specialist” training. The average from enlistment and out to the boonie for these guys was 17 weeks. Most on arrival in the shit went straight over the borders into Cambodia and Laos and for many a short life.. Jump school for these guys normally consisted of four days ground,one day tower and three flying exits.

my grandpa did 4 tours in vietnam, he was with 34th Amour, MSgt Pressley, he was awarded the soldiers medal for bravery in combat, he save several other men from certain death, he was awarded 5 bronze stars during the course of the war. He passed July 11,2011, from Heart and Lung failure, both caused by Agent Orange, he is buried at Leveanworth VA Cemetary, My dad served in Iraq/Somalia in the 90s, he went back to Iraq in 2006-2007 as a Contractor. I enlist this March, Afghanistan here I come.

They had no choice in being there or not. They served, and served well. For over a decade in one fashion or other. No matter what your politics, or ideals, we all need to support our troops. @Zanghfei When you say France, you have to include Michelin Rubber. The rubber plantation there was bigger than some states and was the site of vast fights. It was the MAIN reason France wanted VN back IMO. VN has vast resources that will one day make it more of an economic power than most in Asia if it can ever be educated and get Capital. I flew over most of it in 3 tours and forever wish I had gone back to help them rebuild.

A few Royal Marines were in Vietnam on a “Volunteer Only” basis back in 65/66.Although considered to be non-combatants on intel collection they were heavily armed. However, when fired at there is only one course of response any Marine will take. And that’s fire back.XD. Anyway, quite a few ex Royal Marines with dual nationality took the same war road as the Canadian volunteers.

I'm not a lawyer (thank God), but I do believe that all foreign persons of draft age in this country were eligible for the draft. There were not many, but there were some Canadians, British, Australian, and South Americans in my basic training unit at Fort Polk in 1968. Most of the draftees came from American states, and I really don't believe that there were that many foreigners who felt strongly enough to protect us from communism to enlist into a stupid war.

In Nov. 1968 --Jan. 1969 I was there with the 101st airborne M60 Machine Gunner -1st infantry - attached to 101st airborne Rangers-(asskicking noname taking bad M.F.) These guys were first in any were and we there backup.I learned
it took everyone there to make it happen and if anyone says different they must have been with a engineering or motor brigade company cause they are just blowing smoke (lie's) to make themself better then they were, real man will tell you he 's scared the whole time
