neat work there, man. I just have some doubts (the instructions on the screen are too small too read, but I got the general drift):

1. how do you get your drawings to look that clean?

2. what tool did you use for the hair shine?

3. do you work with tablet or mouse? because your job with tracing the shades is very good (I have a laptop, and use mostly the touchpad)

4. how did you put that white outline around Eriol-kun at the end? I couldn't understand it.

@flyingvkusanagi yeah I didnt made this as a tutorial but probably soon I will make a better version.

I used Pentool for lineart I have a lineart tutorial as well that you might find useful. I only used mouse on this I dont have pen tablet the time I made this video, I made this video a years ago. I think about the white outline I selected the layer of the lineart and I make them glow edges adjusted it and change the color to white.

Not bad I use to color that way (Not as well) until I learned about using flats. You should try it it makes it where that little white outline you had does not happen. (So you do not have to add a larger white outline you can choose to or not to)

What computer do you use? I'm wanting to start this kind of stuff, but I'm clueless to what desktop I should get, * I want a laptop though -_-, but I know desktops are better for these things* I have people tell me the iMac is what I have to get. -_- short on money though nothing over 1600

I recon any laptop or desktop with at least dual core and 2gigs of memory of ram will do

but if you have the budget get quad core with 2 - 4 gigs of ram or Dell XPS for a laptop

btw, you don't get props for using a mouse.

Tablets take a level of hand-eye coordination and a deal of practice. Some people never even get a hang of them. :p

I mean.. I liked your technique, but I could do it faster and more simple than that. I, too, have PS-CS2, and I can color manga scans without as much complexity. But the shading was really nice, so keep up the good work.

Nice Work, I just started using Photoshop (CS4) and i am learning allot, started working on my line art that a scanned in, and with some reading online I have got all the base colors and some shading done, I am using a mouse though so it is rely hard ( I suc at this with a mouse). I wish I had never sold my Wacom tablet!!!!!!!!!

Best way to learn is read a couple tutorials on DeviantArt, get the bsics down and start playing with EVERYTHING.

is there a way to maintain the pen in the drawing area when using a tablet,for example you place your pen in a corner of the tablet, on the screen the cursor will appear on that corner of the drawing area. Can you please help. Thanks

If it's only gray that means you have to go to image/mode/rgb color, then all the colors will be back ^-^

I used pen tool thats all hehe if you learn how to use pen tool you can do this easy.

go to deviantartdotcom and search for line art and coloring tutorials. its easy to learn just follow the steps of different kinds of tutorials there. good luck.

I didn't use any tablet the time I drew this Im using a really old computer and I don't have tablet yet. I used mouse only but there is some techniques in photoshop for tracing it is called line art. you can search it in deviantart website look for line art tutorial

I'm no illustrator but I do work a lot with photoshop at work,

Here's a suggestion: try using the magic wand to select the areas you want to color (in your outline layer) then use that selection on a new layer to color, that way you don't have to erase as much, because you will not paint outside the outline.

1. You can use the dodge tool, but I personaly think it looks better if you just pick another color (lighter) ;)

2. Set the lineart to multiply and make a new layer under it where you gonna lay the colors ^^ The background layer is UNDER the lineart and the color layers, therefore it will not effect the upon layers since it is below =)

Thats a photoshop glitch

you go to "edit->preferences->general->r­eset all warning dialogs"

It should work. Close photoshop afterwards, after that. And then reopen

sorry Its really hard to explain everything but there are some things I can tel you, about the coloring I used layers, first layer for the line art and other layers for the coloring I set the coloring layers to multiply so that It wont color the black lines.

I used Blur tool to make it fade a little and yes you can use a little burn tool to make it darker just remember dodge tool to make it lighter and burn tool to make it darker. Make sure to lower the percentage of the exposure.
