@RimShotZZZ Didn't they say he had a plus-minus of over 100 one season. Folks, #4 was the standard by which defensemen were judged. I'm surprised the Norris Trophy wasn't renamed the Orr trophy
Bobby Orr could score a goal with his eyes closed.
It had to be hard for goalies, who were probably so dazzled and mesmerized by the way Bobby moved -- so much in awe that their minds drifted from the game just watching him, and ... score!
orr was the geatest to ever lace em up. he killed 2 minute penalty by HIMSELF! i remember the entire garden chanting " get orr, get orr, and the rangers couldn't do a thing! 121 points for a defenseman in 1972. r u kidding me!
As an all around player Orr is certainly not overrated... Who are the players you like? .. This will give the board an idea of the type and style of player you enjoy... No use bashing any one for a personal preference.
For the record I am a N.Y. Rangers Fan and I saw Orr's Entire Career. If it was not for Orr's incredible play the Rangers would have defeated the Bruins back in the 1972 Finals.
@brokencasket The series was played when Jean Ratelle just returned after suffering a broken ankle. Obviously he was not the same player who scored 46 goals & 63 assists. The Bruins won in 6 games. Without Orr they probably would have lost. YES, Orr was the difference. He single handedly won game 4 with 2 goals & 1 assist in a 3-2 Bruins victory. In game 6 he scored the series clinching goal and assisted on the insurance goal in a 3-0 win. He also won the Conn Smyth Trophy as the Playoff M.V.P.
@brokencasket Orr scored 4 goals & assisted on numerous goals, played incredible defense in the finals. You're entitled to your opinion. However I believe without Orr the Rangers would have won the series.
You bring up a good point about Esposito....maybe you're right I don't know. It's really hard to tell, in my opinion, who would've done what but the Bruins certainly had enough goal scorers. Thanks for the info regarding the game. I certainly remember the Rangers being one of the better teams (if not the best?) in the NHL that year.
@brokencasket The Bruins & Rangers were the 2 best teams in 1971-72.
Orr is the Greatest player in N.H.L. history. I believe Orr was what made the Bruins a better team than the Rangers. If you remember the 70 series. Orr scored 7 goals & assisted on many goals when the Bruins defeated the Rangers in 6 games. The Rangers won the 73 series in 5 games against the Bruins.
@vinnygunn i'd rather forget the orr years as a hawk, yeah he was good as a bruin, too bad he couldn't have retired as one, but money and greed began driving organizations at that time, kinda still like that, peace
Ken Dryden once said,"When Orr was on the ice there was a quiet panic".

Bobby was the best......OVER RATED?
Anyone thinking he is over rated was jealous of him!
ORR lifted fans out of their seats, his numbers speak by themselves
and he was what every KID wanted to be, fast, talented and tough!

@brokencasket One last point you may want to consider before you reply.
Phil Esposito did NOT score a goal in this series against the Rangers.
Do you still believe the Bruins would have won this series without Orr ?
