@seagullssuck2 probably not,i hate it too,but it gives you a really awesome sound if you put on a dist. and some overdrive (try the germanium big muff) and try to tap fast and control the pedal with your foot,the sound you get is awesome (;
i dont really understand this pedal... i mean, this guy is showing us pitch shifting en layering and shit, but how about the actual whammy? can you just press down the pedal and get a whammy bar effect?
@devildolliarp22 Whammy bars that aren't double locking simply don't work, and dealing with double locking systems is a pain in the ass (to me and MANY others). This pedal actually gets you to do all of that stuff and way beyond WITH sounding in-tune.
@gonde21 both are diffrent. with the pog u can have an octave up and down at the same time while this pedal can only play one octave at the time but you can change it with the footpedal
Charm??? It's a monophonic filter for God's sake. Why do some think the tracking glitch is a charming musical artifact?? The harmonizer modes are monophonic the tune modes are supposed to be polyphonic. The Whammy is a rather cool harmonizer pitch bender but it is a single note track. I suppose if you are playing chords through a Boss octave pedal you think that glitch out is bitchin' tone.
@SuperEffCee because they're creative? David Gilmour uses one these days, just guessing you're prolly the old school "nah, won't try that" type, hopefully, you still appreciate him...
@Eldererr I believe the Electroharmonix's POG is analog. It's a bit different than this one though. No expression pedal, but I've seen the POG modded out with one.
I like the way the dominant 7th sounds but they need to make a way to select the key you are playing so it knows whether to use the major or minor 3rd because it sounds terrible when you play the minor 3rd on every note, Ive never heard a song that only has minor chords.
@Scopitone7 Well, the name Whammy probably is patented for Pedals. But I'm sure there are other analog pitch-shifting pedals out there. I doubt though, that there are any good enough to rival the Whammy.
I would have to say the best recording ever with a Digitech Whammy pedal, is the song Marooned by Pink Floyd. David Gilmour has made the most creative and tasteful use of this tool.
(cont.) If by "loop" you just meant your regular effects chain, and it's ALREADY in the front input of your amp, then I have no idea what the problem is lol And yeah, grounding might not be a bad thing to investigate in that case. Good luck either way!
DUDE! My Whammy pedal is useless...whenever I have it in my loop it plays AM broadcasts so loud i can hardly hear my guitar signal. Any ideas? Grounding?
If by "loop" you mean the effects loop of your amp, then I would first suggest you put it in the "front" input of your amp. Put it as early in your chain as possible so there's nothing extraneous on your signal that the harmonizer has to try to track. Basically, the only things that should ever go before harmonizers are tuners, compressors (can actually help tracking), and volume (or maybe clean boosts). (cont...)
@yobhsiFehT - Thanks for the response. I did mean effects "loop" and I have it first, then my Boss BD-2 Keeley mod, then my Boss RC-30 then my amp. Pretty simple setup. I don't even have my BD-2 gain that high. I may pickup a compressor (kind of partial to Keeley's) with hopes that it may help. I replaced my guitar & patch cords which helped a little. I've heard that different guitars perform differently, and any guitar can actually act like an antenna. Love the Whammy, hate the noise.
I'm looking for a pedal that can mimic harmonizing guitars (mainly solo work) and I'm down between the BOSS PS-5, PS-6, or this DigiTech whammy. Any opinions? Also, apparently the PS-6 has a function that imitates 3 harmonizing guitars and that would be a wonderful effect to have (I would love it for some Kirk Hammett and Brian May stuff).
@theshortcurlyguy no, there is nothing equal to or better than the whammy. you can get a "pitch bend" effect in many signal processors (like the rpx400, though it is also made by digitech, so they can call it "whammy" instead of "pitch bend"), but the whammy is the one to get if you want this kind of effect. cheers!
I have owned this pedal for years. I use it in cycles it seems, and always end up putting it away because I can't stand all those shrill watery tones you hear when you use the octave up features.
I'm looking at buying an octave pedal and was hoping someone could tell me how the octave setting on the whammy rates compared to other octave pedals?
I have this pedal. It's a greeeat pedal, very sturdy, i only got this pedal because of rage against the machine, audioslave, etc... I've only used the Harmony once for "Know your enemy" By rage against the machine... Octaves i use a lot. If you use the "1 Octave down function" You can make your guitar into a bass, which is awesome.
Question about the whammy. I've noticed that when I push mine down (toward the toe), it doesn't engage until part way through the glide (if that makes sense). I expected it to alter the effect the second I started angling the pedal toward the toe, but it's more like 20% of the way there until it kicks in.
@jeffrey544 XP100 easily. The XP100 Has a wah and a whammy, as well as it uses a Sound chip from IVL Technologies, as Opposed to Digitech's own Chip, which is worse sounding and cheaper.
You can hear the difference, when listening to the stuff around 3:10, where you can hear a sort of distortion; where this is non existent/extremely subtle on the XP100. On the other hand, the XP 100 is pretty difficult to find, but if you find one, I'd get it.
hi my whammy pedal is acting up... everytime i turn it on it tunes weird but when i turn it off its in tune fine i dont kno wat to do can you help me pls??
@asgarddrambo Sort of, but not really. The Whammy pedal can only do one harmony note at a time, and it can only harmonize one note at a time. It's more for doing pitch bends and working as an Octave pedal.
I'm so stupid happy about this pedal. First demo I've watched, but has been on my list for a while. I bet I buy it before the month is out despite better judgement.
