  • the space combat reminds me of Nexus the Jupiter Incident kind of game play except for the lack of graphics and cool looking weaponry but i guess star trek has its own class of design. Although one question can we fit warp distruptors and webifiers ?? other wise they will just warp out right ?? Maybe we need warp bubble spamming ^^

  • damn, sorta wishing that the boarding parties can capture ships

  • At 3:00 was that just a saucer section of a galaxy?

  • god this looks epic. i love star trek so much thanks to my pops. this makes me wish enterprise was on atm

  • Another great video, its not the best advice ever but still good, Even though i have a Rear Admiral, i still get some of the things wrong and these videos help.

  • Not to mention, that they talk about all this "strategy" when it really doesn't mean squat because if you DO blow up, who cares. You just magically respawn 15-20 seconds later.

    Welcome to kindergarten.

  • Kinda feel sorry for guys like this Zeke fellow who worked on this game thinking it was going to be a success.

Now they have to show up at the office every day pretend to be excited about the future of this garbage.

  • I think it would be a lot better if the exploration of a ship wasn't limited to the bridge, you could go to your bridge when you're out of a fight and then take a turbolift to a certain floor, each ship would be different, and each of the three variations would have slightly different layouts that still melded together no matter how they are put together, also customising the general theme of the ship and being able to bring your friends inside your ship would be a huge plus to many people

  • I totally agree, it would be better if I could go to the engineering room and hammer on bunch of consoles to get the ship fixed. If I want Action I would play CS:S

  • 2:25

    Seriously, I appreciate the intent...

But don't -tell- me what -I- believe is fun, nor how to have it. Alright? Thanks. I can manage that on my own.

And as cool as it is, do a better job of playing off how the heart pounding drama of boarding parties have been dropped to a very complex MISSILE EFFECT

  • I am a Trekie and have been playing this game for 2 weeks now . . . as an MMO . . it is good . . if you are a Trekie. . . it is brilliant. I love this game.

  • If done right this could be a great game for guilds. ships could be upgraded based on the guild size, and players could have their own quarters within the ship so whenever they log into the ship they can report for duty or just hang out in the observation room. I'll bet that most people logging into a star trek game are looking for the star trek experience of interacting with other players more then everyone pretending to be a captain of their own crappy ship.

  • Hmm. Star Trek Online, Star Wars: The Old republic, Stargate Online... with so many good options of sci-fi MMORPGs, it is strange that nobody has ever thought in doing a MMORPG based in series like Babylon 5 or Andromeda. I wonder why.

  • and eve. don't forget eve.

  • Hey, You're right! I forgot EVE Online! Thanks =)

  • this game looks fucking fun

  • If only they put as much effort into the depth of this game as they did to these trailers.

  • Most MMORPGs aren't that good as for a start but are modified along the road. The creators often save the best parts for later expantions as gamer raters often gives MMORPGs low ratings to start with seeing that they are unaware of how good a online game will actually get and won't risk looking unprofesional.

    Or whatever, somethin' like that.

  • WTB Freelancer 2???

  • yea me to man but it ain't gonna happen. Microsoft is too into the success of the 360

  • @starslayerstudios hairy stufffffffffff

  • COOL!!!! IM SO GETTING IT!!! i have a question though, on multiplayer do you get your ship straight away!

  • is freaken LAGGY!!

  • Your computer must suck.

  • Lifetime sub might kill this game

  • When I heard boarding parties, I got excited, then I saw they are really just another word for missiles...crap

  • lol another thing umm they dont use shields to board a ship they teleport them in to the ship like in most show.they only use shuttle for covert op or they are fighting in an area that they cant use their teleporting device or the lost powers or the system was distroyed.

  • the second guy that talks looks like matt parkman from heroes

  • So send your marines over, then blow it up! Brilliant.

  • Reminds me of the reallife warfare of the USA :P

  • sweet i'm buying it, and lifetime sub, all my friends play and there dads!

  • ive been playing the beta to this and it awesome im defo geting lifetime sub

  • omg I want to play this .....

  • i must say this game is has impressed me. i am a star war man myself but i must give credit where credit is due. this game rocks..

who says i cant love both :)

  • does anyone know if u can have friends join like a fleet or clan sort of thing?

  • i think so they said you can have them on your bridge so why not, right?

  • ok thanks that does sound cool.

  • is it me, or did they send a boarding party to that one ship and then immediatedly blow it up? 2:50

Must have been the guys with the red shirts.

  • they sent the guy that screwed up yesterday's rations

  • I hope for multiple players on one ship as well as that opens up chances for the real juicy bit: Players who defend your ship from boarding parties while the ship is in battle, their performance affecting how you are doing.

  • @cheezeofages WOW :O

  • Hey did anyone notice at 2:50 the Galaxy Class has its Saucer Section Seperated :D

  • I did! Lol. It seemed weird the first time around but then I realized what it was. I hope to the almight ypowers that be that it wasn't a glitch. Saucer separation is a major ++ in my book. It would also be neat if they allowed your friends to be in your crew instead of a captain as well. Having people frantically fix your ship while under seige is amazing.

  • @Shaprika holy crap, I must say Im not a star trek fan, but the concept that you just put in my head is just AMAZING, I would love to see a game operate like that, have actual deck hands taking care of the ship while a "captain" commands the ships movement and tactics. It would it would require lots of teamwork, but I think that is just a awesome concept that should be added to some mmorpg.

  • Haha thanks. The only thing that I ever loved about ST was their ships. I swear I'd be the first person in line to test one out if they were real, haha. But yeah, teamwork! Who wouldn't want that? Though... I can see the issue if your ship can't leave the docks to to your pilot (friend) having an English test at school... haha.

  • or comp dies and ur ship comes to a stand still with no shields

  • Lol that would suck XD I can see it now... A stand still in the midst of a klingon invasion =o

  • That wouldnt be too much of a issue if your whole guild resided on the ship so as people logged in they could take on different responsibilities in the bridge. in any case the players could have different classes that could benefit away team missions which would benefit both the players and their ship with increased stats for both.

  • @Shaprika solution a bot can pilot ship if he is away or do a crew search and find a temp replacement who knows you might meet future members of your crew that way!

  • Well sorry for thinking outside the generic box ^_^

  • Can't judge a game until you try it.

  • "Nothing like star trek" is a bit of an overstatement

  • @Aurastormx I see Romulans, Klingons and Federation ships. if you thought this was going to be a scan this and that, along with lets see what we can do if we mix a trill weed with a Romulan tree sort of game, and have it as a finite exploration, then this game is not for you

  • @Hazard3321 (my last post)

ive been playing the open beta, besides the usual beta glitches (which is no suprise), once they clean this game up, im certain this game will run very nicely. i cant wait to explore more of this game tomorrow .

  • i think it would be fun to go down to the engine room and try to fix it.

  • Aye cap'n x1!

  • it would add some realism to the game which would be fun. And more realistic if you were in a smaller ship like a bird of prey or something.

  • I'm not going to assume anything, Open Beta starts in 3 Days. So give it a try. That's the wonderful thing about Open Beta now a days. Let's you try a game before committing to buying it. As it is I'm a *wee* bit unsure of this game. It's features remind me WAAAAAY too much of "Pirates of the Burning Sea" mmo...which some of you may know was a flop. (A game where they have to condense 12 servers into 4 to keep player count per server high enough is not a good sign).

  • ah true but a lot of the problem with that and many other SOE MMOs (which hav a lot of potetial) are let down by a lack of interest in this case a bnighn concern as well its STAR TREK !!!! there will always be a solid fan base

  • Who cares how much like SFC it is. combat in SFC was fun and worked very well. if its not broke dont fix it. the appeal here i think is making the ship yours, upgrading it and your crew which is clearly much more detailed then SFC. and since i dont hear anyone offering any better ideas, quit your bitchin and just dont play the game.

  • who knows they could be looking for a better way to fly the ship but for now this is what works best but it seems to be more like STL

  • This is dissapointing, it's just like a mmo Starfleet Command

  • @Niklotov YES! Thank you! Finally someone besides me has noticed that. When they got the game from Perpetual, Cryptic decided to rip ideas straight out of SFC for the game, rather than make it an immersive Trek experience that Perpetual had in mind. I'm betting the ground combat is just an mmo version of Elite Force with skills and random damage rolls. I'm very disappointed in this game.

  • Unless you have played it in beta or retail. Dont assume anything.

  • @BoydofZINJ I've seen enough gameplay video of the starship combat, and played enough Dynaverse online for the SFC games to know where Cryptic got its inspiration from. I'm not saying it's entirely a bad thing (even Avatar was derivative), but it only serves to further enhance the rushed feeling of the product. Creative game design was clearly sacrificed for profit motive here. I understand a lot of developers do that with games all the time, but at least try to make it not so...well, obvious.

  • well shit,, they basically copied the sfc/sfb combat system.

  • It is a bit different than SFC/SFB - it is more MMO based, not as complex. It is a MMO mixture. You have to remember, this is ultimately an MMO. Rare drops and smart player creations will mean your ship will do better than another ship. Likewise, there is tons of customization and your bridge officers are an extension of both you and yourship and customizeable.

  • in 2:57 ,poor marines they were inside when the ship explode

  • I guess those boarding parties sacrificed themselves.

  • I wonder what happens when your ship gets destroyed.

  • can you get assimulated by the borg

  • They really shouldn't assume like that. I mean when he said, "You don't want to be banging on the computer trying to figure out things work". There's a reason in most ST conventions there's more ppl dressed as an engineer. Most of us fans ARE geeks who LIKE trying to figure out how it works. Now I like this game too, but I think most of us would WANT to do the behind the works scene even if at least sometimes. Since when are ST fans known for being trigger happy adrenaline junkies?

  • Yeah, completely agree, altough I've never been to any conventions :D Actually I can't imagine to do this during a fight, but there should be some quests or maybe they could include "power up" like stuff, which u can only start by pressing buttons on panels filled with techno blabla :D Or some serious injuries could be only repaired that way. And if u don't like it, there could be an option, to exclude these kind of part of the game, and auto repair everyting(which'd be a bit less succesful).

  • Your exactly right, there would be plenty of players (myself included) who would enjoy trying to repair damaged systems in the middle of a fire fight. Incidentally this would make having a good boarding party perfect as you could invade the other guilds ship and "stun" the players thus allowing your guild to capture the other ship for merit points or something.

Once all was said and done the losing side could start back out from dry dock or something. Either way guilds would be the way to go.

  • @sapphyreseraph Since the latest movie, I guess.

Damn it, I chose an engineer when I built my charcter in the trial!

  • dont liek the dmg you do flashing on screen, and best space mmo try eve online mate

  • eve is boring

  • lol i would of liked walking around the ship while its being attacked that would be cool,

  • So the boarding parties are not playable just an attack? Even so still looks like the best space combat mmo to date.

  • correction to u and havokkG1 they say u will be able to do this but not at release i dont know about walking around your ship when being attacked but they said that u might be a ble to play as boarding parties or at least go to your main points in your ship like engineering holodeck bridge etc ... but not at release.

  • Thank you very much :)

Was wondering about that. thats cool no MMO has everything at launch, adding shit while you go is why your payin i spose
