I was surprised that this wasn't a revival of the old City of Thieves "Fighting Fantasy" gamebook by Ian Livingstone/Steve Jackson. Warlock of Firetop Mountain and Deathtrap Dungon each had a boardgames, so imagine my surprise that a different game had one of FF's signature titles.
Wow! Good to see that people aren't taking Tom's assessment of the target group of this game to heart. Those words were viscous"the lack of game-play left me feeling flat but I think that it will appeal to teenagers", is a little below the belt isn't it.
So you like it and you're not a teen. Good for you. Have your fun but don't expect too many of your peers to be riveted by this game.
The first time I saw this game and when I watched the official Fantasy Flight video about it, I thought this looked like an awesome game and I was ready to buy it... but after reading a couple reviews and watching this, this game looks like it's a whole lot of icing and not a lot of cake... in other words, a very basic and simplistic game wrapped in a LOT of eye candy and nice components...
I thought this game looked good - I didnt realise it was so flufflistic(!) and will certainly not be bothering with. You don't normally hold back on slating a game but seemed to with this (after all every game will be enjoyed by someone...) - whats wrong, getting soft in your old age Tom ;-)
This game is nowhere near the "level" of Tannhauser. I have both and Tannhauser requires much more thought and offers MUCH more strategically.... than CoT. sorry Tom but you're way off the mark here. Tann's characters are all different and have different abilities not to mention different weapon loadouts, whereas CoT combat is basically roll 2 dice and the higher one wins. Both games are good but both are very different and appeal to different moods.
IMHO this looks like it was a remake of Orcs at the Gate!! which is an amazing game!

It's a fun simple game. It's not deep. If you want deep, you'll want to play warrior knights or twilight imperium.

I am assuming that all the characters have the same stats because they already have expansions in mind.

@theoracle42 I played Tannhauser and I totally agree with you.... at the same time, Tom always have the right to his own opinions.

Perhaps why the stats are all the same is due to the potential of an Expansion Pack to add more specialised thieves.
