if you don't know how to cross wakes or trim a boat to run in chop then don't get the sv, half the fun for me is not flipping it, i don't think i would get any adrenaline rush if i knew that i pretty much could not flip my boat, tape the hatch any you'll be fine, my sv has been upside down for a half hour before i got it to shore and it was dry inside, to each his own but i enjoy the loose running sv, it took me a while to get used to it but i rarely flip it now
It looks youar ebeing a little biased! Lipo mostly has to do take off and has little effect on top speed, that being said- the formuls was still faster out of the hole! Kinda unfair to compare a boat running
Lipo to anther running Nimh!
If the supervee really handles better, why did it wipeout while going straight- for no reason? I think the supervee is really fast in a striaght line, and the formula has a takeoff and handling advantage.
We're not biased, Proboat couldn't spent a couple bucks to include a lipo tuner device so we couldn't use lipos. Also the Formula is significantly larger that the Super Vee, so heavy batteries have little effect on it. ATL isn't trying to endorse either boat, my personal opinion after using both is that the Super Vee is generally more fun to use. It turns a bit better and has better top speed, also the parts seem higher quality.
The Proboat is wet and the Aquacraft is setup to run very loose. Dont know what other setup differences there are but the Proboat looks a better setup for racing.
are you serious? the supervee is a vee hull, not a deep vee. i know how to trim and disburse weight. it is made to run high on the water, not to cut through waves. dont even come with a left side turn fin. also you have to relocate the antenna and tape the hatch anyhow, so the lock mechanism is useless.
Real racers do not put turn fins on the left side of there boats. It is useless for racing because races go clockwise, also balancing the boat does not mean making it a wave cutter, it still skips on top of the water but it does not flip. Lastly, Pro Boats magnetic hatch does not work. The Super Vee's canopy never falls off.
Better be a good swimmer if you go with a supervee. it handles chop like crap. good straight line speed on glass is all it's good for. sold mine. gonna get a fastech.much more stable , and the motor/esc can handle 5s lipo no problem! that'll smoke a supervee!
We get this all the time. If you know how to trim the Super Vee and you slide the batteries forward it handles waves fine. As owners of both boats we recommend the Super Vee over the Formula Fastech. The Formula cant turn well, it is slower, the Super Vee qualifies in way more races, and the Formula is simply low quality. The cowl comes off when you flip and the lid to the water tight box comes off as well.
@ryanrummler I have both a Supervee and a UL-1. The UL-1 is faster but I like the way the Supervee can turn sharper. Mine handles chop very well. When racing you often set the trim tabs... at the limit of stability to attain higher top speeds. On the Supervee. When the tabs are set perfectly it has a high top speed and will handle moderate chop. You can set it up to ride lower but you sacrifice speed. I have the best of both worlds as I installed a UL-1 motor in my Supervee.
This wasn't really a fair comparison. Anyone knows Lipo packs are going to smoke nimh packs (which lose their peak in the first 30 seconds). Also, the stock SV with the stock prop sucks off the line. Drag races don't mean much anyway, how do they handle an oval course?
I want the SV to win this comparison (I own one) but only if it's a fair fight.
Agreed Nimh packs are not as good as lipos. Unfortunately Proboat does not include a programming module for lipo. We raced the boats with the Formula using lipo, without the programming module, and the Super Vee using nimh, and the Super Vee went faster.
The 7 Cell is what i am running in my shockwave and i ran 6 cells and it goes quite a bit faster with the 7 cell and it handles better with the extra weight.
it would not alter the handling but, the esc can not handle the voltage so it would just be heavier but you should get about 30-33 mph. O the other hand the supervee goes around 31-35 mph
ya man, id recommend lipo myself but its too expensive for me,its like $200 for a nice set of lipos and i would also need a charger which is like $50. right now im just doing 4200mah 6cell but i will do 7cell later on. thanks for the help though i went with the fastech its a nice boat for cruising around the small lakes by my house. it will probably smoke a traxxas villain ex for $50 more.
Run the hump packs!!! Check out my Shockwave 26 that I put the Proboat Brushless setup in and ran 2 6c, 2 7c, and I could not find a good deal on 8c and 9c. So I went to a hong kong site and got a 5s Lipo.
But even better get as close to 20 volts (Which the SuperVee can't handle due to poor water cooling) as you can. I used a 5s Lipo which at full charge holds 20v or you can use 2 9c NiMh.
Have you tried racing both on either 6cell nimh or 2S lipos at the same time rather than one being crippled by nimh lack of power flow? Just curious how close to speed they are on the same battery source.
I use to have a nitro SV27 but got rid of it, Im sure you've noticed but its too hard to control at higher speeds or a little bit of chop.
We have not been able to because we currently only own one set of nihms and one set of lipos. But we swiched the batteries around and they went about the same speed, so we are sure the super vee is faster. Also, if you trim the super vee well it handels quite well.
Both races were won by the Formula and the first race the Formula left when they said go. Whoever was driving the Supervee was just too slow. I have a Shockwave 26 that will blow both of them out of the water. My only downfall right now is Nimh. I am running 2 7 cells and it is heavy. Besides the ProBoat ESC allows you to use up to 21v where as the aquacraft only allows 16.8.
which one should i get. im leaning more towards the formula fast tech because the super vee 27 seems a little unstable at high speeds. and it not just in this video. please reply
We reccomend the Super Vee 27 for more expirienced drivers, also if you are interested in racing you want the super vee. If you trim the super vee it can be very stable at high speeds in calm water. However, if you dont have a place to drive with fairly calm water you may want the formula. It handles waves better. Unfortunetly it does not turn very well and the Super Vee is faster. We personaly reccomend the Super Vee 27.
I would recommend the Super Vee 27, it turns much better, it's faster, and it's generally more fun to drive. The Formula handles waves better, but the Super Vee handles waves well if you trim it well. Thanks for commenting.
Yeah it is pretty unfair. We tested them he batteries reversed latr (formula could not recognise the lipo voltage with out programming modual) and the two were went similar speeds. We are buying another set of lipos and a programming modual for the formula so we will post another vid asap. Still the formula has bad turning so we do think the Super Vee is better on calm water. Thanks for commenting
ok, but i have another question, does the formula handle the rough stuff better than the supervee? it seems like it should given the deep v hull. Thanks, i look forward to the next vid.
Yes it handles waves much better. The Super Vee 27 still handles waves well, if it's well trimmed and the batteries have been moved forward. Thanks for commenting.
the supervee wins obviously because the battery is a 2s lipo and the fasttech is running on nimhs!

@lopapsdo 2-3 mph is huge in a race. That's enough to lap your adversaries in a race.

We recommend lipo batteries if possible but hump packs probably work well too. The boat is very stable so we would not worry about handling too much.
