I know in the Marines it was called the SASR sure the army calls it the same, Special Application Scoped Rifle. It can be used to engage anything you want, but for the most part its for hard targets, like vehicles, enemy behind walls, IED's, etc.

The only problem I have with the .50 as far as a sniping weapon was evident in this video clip. The concussion from the weapon threw dust in the area all around the sniper.....possibly giving away his position.

@jrmridgley A couple of things...most of the concussion/blast you saw was a function of the muzzle brake. A .50 definitely has a lot of blast, but nothing like what you see here without the brake.

Have you ever touched an M2? I'm assuming that part was just you telling us that you're super hard. But while that is clearly not true, there's no way you're running for long with a Barret either.

The position the military takes on the .50BMG is that you can shoot people with it.
