  • I think we can call it the first English Revolution with out falling out too much.

    Cheers, Mush

  • The Levellers were named after a 17th-century (thats 1600`s) group in the English Civil War who were pretty much the first `communists`. In the sense that they wanted no class structure in society, and for everything to be owned in common.

An amazing band with a great ethic. `Levelling The Land` is a great album - check it out.

  • @duran9418

The Levellers were not communist in the least.

The diggers had far more idea of what the class war was about.

  • @roberts1966 The Diggers called themselves The True Levellers, and The Levellers were never a united, disciplined movement. Some Levellers were more radical than others. I personally prefer The Diggers` outlook, but I WAS commenting on a band called `The Levellers` !

Some Levellers denied being communist, whilst the views of others were anarchist.

"The World Turned Upside Down" by Christopher Hill is the best book I`ve found on radical ideas during the English revolution. Thanks for the interest

where did they get the idea for this :)

  • the words are just from their experience of live at the bottom of society

  • @iisrhys

They actually got their inspiration from the 1968 film "Robot Mozart and his fantastic balloon". They met each other on set as they were all working as grips.

It was here over a hot cup of Bovril they decided upon the groundwork of this song.

    The rest is history...
