Trotsky was supposed to succeed Lenin, but the power-hungry Stalin came into the picture. Well actually marxism and communism are quite diff. marx's work consisted of 98% anti-capitalism and the idea that it would fail. marxism=anti capitalism. Whereas communism was mentioned very little throughout marx's work, only most notably in the manifesto which was written for a workers class group, which bore the idea of communism.
