  • In serious competition for best song on the planet and beyond.

  • Un video genial, saludos!

  • "The Voice".. a synth rock masterpiece!

  • The best Band ever!^^

  • Thus song isa about ppl in WWII listening to the radio, especially important in Britian, of cwho did conquer totalinarianism ourse their heroes were the Allied Troops, Winston Chirchill and FDR. Real heroes

  • So glad i sticked to my taste in music! at 14 i loved this guys and their music and style in spite of harsh critics , funny now every one says "oh i wish i had experienced them back then"

  • Bloody Awesome. Way ahead of their time.

  • Since so many kids are learning songs from the late '60s and '70s, and playing them in bands and re-recording them, hopefully they'll also advance to stuff like this eventually. It's seems to me that most of the best innovative, best written rock, came from around the mid '60s, and ended in the late '80s or early '90s.

  • So Haunting!! Love Ultravox!!

  • i here some faith no more roots here

  • never worn jewellery, a watch is about as far as i go. but in the early 80s on my black side zipped shirt i wore 2 of the UV logos(as you see on the clip) on the points of the collar. little metal badges in black and gold i think i picked them up at the concert in Sydney Australia. still have them after all this time, wow i treasure them now :)m49 yep i was there

  • No wonder people got crazy at their reunion tour! ! ! it proofs just how much they have been missed and how litle the music of today gives us in comparison.noone will ever come close!

  • just to reiterate all the previous comments - they dont make vids like this anymore - innovative/original artistic etc etc and a great song and yes political - no bad for a wee guy from cambuslang

  • Why don't they make clips like this anymore? Did they have so much more money back then? What has gone wrong?

  • @Andybaby actually quite the opposite mate, clips were often a 1 shot thing as video cost a ton then. these days they spend millions on some clips with a truckload of effects and a shitty dance routine(note particularly yank r&b,rap and pop), while the songs worth NOTHING and is utterly forgettable.

  • Fabulous - creative, innovative, and one of many genres of music around at the time. Contrast that with the plasticised rubbish around today. I am glad I am not growing up in the music of today. Long live the 80s!!!

  • I am SO SO glad i was part of this period of music!!! Noone can ever come anywhere close to this.Music at it's perfection

  • Simply great! Driving beat and just an awesome driving bass! A whirlwing wind of sound, a beautiful spendfrift..

  • The great absurdity of pop music is that is constantly needs to change, but in the late-70's/early-80's it hit perfect pitch with bands like Ultravox. So a golden era comes and goes, cause change is required. Kind of crazy, especially considering the kind of crap produced these days.

  • @GoblinsFriend You said it.

  • I've seen Midge and Ultravox live many times since 1982. This and Visions in Blue are far superior to Vienna. The Voice is a classic, what a guy Slik, The Rich Kids, Visage, Thin Lizzy, Ultravox, Band Aid, with Mick Karnes and Solo Artist. He's done it all, multi talented musician, songwriter, record producer and a superb vocalist and he is one gallas lookin dude, absolutely brilliant. I'm huge fan of Midge- The Vox were nothin till Midge replaced John Foxx

  • Having just found out that a friend of mine committed suicide I'd like to say "If your voice cannot be heard then you cannot make a difference". He was a Marine and he served us all well. Godspeed my brother. I hope you found what you were looking for. I dedicate this song to him.

PS Do not reply. Your sympathy's are not necessary for you knew him not. Carry on . . .

  • A masterpiece of writing and music.....

  • I LOVE every second of this video! Best song ever! And Midge´s sideburns are a real turn-on! ;-)

  • this song haunted me for years... i love it!!!!!! thanx

  • This video brings to mind Orson Wells in "Citizen Kane". UV: one of my all time favs from me ol' WUSM days.

  • oh I love this ,havent heared it for years gonna go and download it cheers.

  • Wow, can I thank u Alcco?!?!?! For this beautiful video????

  • Looking like a young Tom Cruise, bald as a bean now but still great live, catch 'em if you can!

  • love this song . and unlike a lot of people i like midge's mustache ana hair. shame he didn't keep both. love midge a lot. he's a great singer, gorgious, and sexy too. stil is.

  • Every twentysomething who does not do an effort to listen to these 80s pearls

has got his eardrums torn out of his head by the crap they serve in these megamalls of worthless dancemusic or (c)rapmusic.

Lyrics do not count anymore. You may as well put a bucket of ballbearings in a cementmixer and stick your head in that , than to listen to todays tympanic rape.

The exception being something like Radiohead and their likes.

  • I believe this is one of the videos directed by Russell Mulcahy of HIGHLANDER fame.

  • Ultravox is my 90's generations liberation from all the crap music we have today! most kids say (born around 00's)

  • LET'S SING ALONG!!!

What is happening to the weather you controllers of the world! Let's awake once and for all! This is our world!

You should listen to the lyrics of the band, That's the ULTRAVOX.

    They are still on tour.

  • For me, 'The Voice' and 'The Thin Wall' are just so underrated it's untrue - both classic, classic tracks that are more than the equal of 'Vienna'. Keep up the great posting dude!

  • without doubt the best ultravox song (for me). thanks for uploading!

  • best u vox song ....jugend pur!!!

  • The most under rated group of the 80's, awsome song, and the message is still as relavent now as it was then

  • Brilliant song!!!! ...........The 80`s what a decade for great music!!

  • Not only is it a good song the B side is also brilliant, Paths and Angles.

  • what is that monks in the backround?

lol one of the best songs in the history of songs.

not like that discusting wigger crap played today.

  • @aNimE732 I love the Monks discription lol ,a bunch of Monks warming up for Hymm lessons .

  • Awesome song! They don't make music quite like this today!

  • you're damn right they don't, and i think it's because all the new artists do is remake old ones :'(

  • eres mejor que strange , tu calidad como vocal es un 10 gracias urge por hacer esta musica ok

  • Great group! Great Song! Great Video!

    Great!!!!!!

  • one of the most brilliant songs of the 80's. Definitely in my top 10.

  • Genial. Great solo of synth.

  • Does anyone know the origins of this song, I mean, the lyrics? What's the main message? I've been searching the Internet for some reference, but I haven't found any. Thanks in advance for your help!

¿Alguien tiene información sobre la temática de esta canción, en qué se basa o sobre como surgió? Me encantaría que me ayudarais. ¡Gracias!

  • rebellion

  • Mass media, government, controlling the masses with their message..

packaging it using pretty people on tv, with the right voice, the right message to fool the people

  • Thanx Pyroman2525! I kind of figured it out. Yes, It makes sense and the video matches that idea too. ;-)

  • Ultravox and Midge Ure are fuckin masters of synth pop and new romantic sound, they are able to create past atmospheres with just a melody... this was pure music and someday they will be considered as they deserve...

Oh, the look and the sound of

    The Voice

    They try, they try

Oh, the shape and the power of

    The Voice

    In strong low tones

  • Best video ever made - its message profound and soul-touching. <3

  • ultravox the voice * * * * *

  • Eine der besten 80er Gruppen,

    einfach genial

  • ...what an excellent song & video !

    :-D

  • arriba la gran bretaña y sus grandes grupos de los ochentas.

  • Oh, Midge Ure - he still makes me feel all girlie. He's so gorgeous!

  • No sólo las canciones de Ultravox son especiales tambien la atmósfera de sus vídeos.

  • Una gran canción de los 80s =)

  • Here we can see the beginnings of a new world order and hybrid humans.

  • spot on observation - NWO, end times , the antichrist - as if the power of his voice decieves all humanity - after reading your comment thats what I got from the video .

hybrid humans ? are the NWO terra forming the planet for the arrival of something else ? steve quayle and the Q files.

  • to własnie muza z lat 80tych a nie to badziewie obecnie!!!!!

    ultravox-czekamy na was w polsce!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • do we always take the mickey out of God - and lie? God is NOT a miserable cranky old git - he IS GOD, lover of my soul -eagle woman.

  • I played the B side this morning off the voice 12" LP..All stood Still and Private Lives (boths tracks live at Chrystal Palace 1981).Sound so good even 28 years later!!

  • 80's back, PLEASE

  • 80's clips are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How Midge was never knighted and Geldof was, considering he wrote the bloody band aid song is a mystery, all Geldof did was eff and blind at people to give them some F****** money, and Ultravox were far bigger than his Boomtown Rats... The wee fella never got the reward he so deserved

  • I couldnt have put it better myself, but i think there was a bit of political crappy positoning going on at the time. IE Maggy crappy Thatcher spit spit

  • Midge Ure should have got more praise, but I can't say I'm a fan of knighthoods and that whole corrupt medieval system. OBE should be WBE (What British Empire (left)?)

I think as soon as folk as Geldoff got into that whole thing, it was downhill from there. Geldof and Bono were always great self-promoters.

  • Yes i agree that there was some awful music in the 80`s,as far as i am concerned there will be no other period in my lifetime that will better that era,TBH modern music is shite i would much rather jump back 20 years and listen to music as it should be,originality, diversity and sheer magic... Getting back to Midge, yes he deserves the recognition but he hasnt made a big deal of it,while geldof hasnt done fuck all since except fuck up being a parent

  • That's a bit harsh to Geldof...

  • i' a fn of rock and hard rock but ultravox is brilliant midge ure a genious and a heroes i want a reformation stupid music industry !!!!!!!!! ultravox is a band of first category i'm a fan of led zep deep purple whitesnake and many mores bands i like also very very good music like ultravox midge ure and kate bush are giant the england music is die on the eighties why for new music b spears mariah carey beyonce pussycatt dolls jonas brother are you fucking serious!!!!

  • Ultravox have reformed. Haven't you heard? :)

  • nice one, thanks.

  • For God's sake somebody bring back the 80's

  • yep..

  • "For God's sake somebody bring back the 80's" - not all sweetness and light. Do we really want the Cold War & fear of being nuked, massive strikes, and yuppie greed?

  • No but I sure want the music !

  • Not really much of a difference between then and now actually. Accept the 80's had better music.

  • There was a lot of pretty bloody awful music in the 80s too. Most of it thankfully forgotten - Banarama, Bucks Fizz, Milli Vanilli etc. Ultravox is one of the better bands that used the synth, but there were plenty of other "synth laden" groups, which were pretty bad - especially AOR stuff.

  • i love the way Midge sings word "voice"

  • "i love the way Midge sings word "voice" "

So do I, but the spiv moustache is terrible!

  • 2:06 looks like something out of Bohemian Grove. Great song, btw.

  • wonderful thanks

  • A nice upload sir, many thanks.5/5

  • don't mention it,thanks to you..

  • nice song! thanks!

  • thank you very much to all by your commentaries

  • Midge Ure never wrote political songs per se; the poetry here is how we can decode this gem's encrypted message. He did this purposefully, yes.

  • Midge Ure once said he didn't write political songs. Ha, ha. He must have forgotten this excellent attack upon the media and it's control by media. Excellent!

  • Burner!

  • danke noAhthethird
