never a repeat of KDAY.........I do miss those days, free, fun, and full of the future!.....
20 years later I can honestly say that was the greatest time of my radio career......so many stories, so many stories, so many.................so many experiences......thanks always to Jack patterson, ed Kirby, and Greg mack my three amigos at KDAY.......the best!
But, let me tell you......the greatest time ever and most successfully fun time ever was at 'AM STEREO 1580 KDAY'...50,000 watts..baby! I have never been able to reproduce the popularity and excitment for myself...I tried to capitalize on it at KPWR (they would never hire me thanks to jeff Wyatt, Rick Cummings), Stevie Wonder anf Frankie Ross gave me a great opportunitity at KJLH for about three years, had a talk show on KMPC, had a little run at 92.3 FM Mega, and a few other stations, but ...
Looking back when I walked out of the studio, up the starirs, out the front door to my car, and drove down the hill from the studio/transmitter site Alvarado/Glendale ave in Echo Park/LA...I never understood how my life had been changed, and was about to change....I had a hit record bangin on the dance charts across the country 'The Movement-Jump Everybody' ulitimatel going Gold in several countries....had my acting career going, and had owned my own Real estate company.....
Jesse Torrero here...I was the second to last voice ever heard on 1580 KDAY....that day in 1991...JJ Johnson took us off the air to staic dark, and the death of the greatest radio station on the west coast 1580 KDAY. At that time Greg mack moved on to KJLH, Russ was gone to Dallas, but I was still there. I did not realize the significance of KDAY to my life and the industry as I was just living it fast and hard...the first 24/7 rap station in the world.......
Yes yes yes! This brings back memories! Russ Parr, Greg Mack, Lisa Canning and everyone esle all made KDaY the bomb radion station of the 80's and 90's.
