@mjohanss you forgot the russians:tsar guard:best heavy cavalry in the game
dismounted dvor/dvor cavalry:one of the best missile units in the game, heavy armor, great damage.the also have shields and axes, which makes them the best missile troops when fighting in meele.they can easily take out meele infantry, becouse they weaken him while shooting, enough to take em out with their axes and shields.but i still think the turks are second,or maybe first, but then russians are the second.
@ldocas The turks, no question. Heaviest cavalry, heaviest horse archers, naffatuns, great musketeers, the very best archers in the game and some very, very good infantry. Best part is, the best archers in the game, some of that good infantry and the musketeers are all produced in cities, not castles.
A successful crusade gives you loads of free experience for every unit involved, gets you cheap, powerful mercenaries and gives any involved general loads of great traits. It's even worth getting a load of minor armies joining in with the crusade just before you take the target settlement even if they have no chance of getting to the target - they will still get the bonus.
Your best bet for taking on the Moors is fight them off the map. Crusades help if you can get them, but keep going. Also, make sure you get Priests working in the Moors' lands because converting the populace to your religion gives your priests loads of great traits and makes them more likely to become Pope. Get one of your Priests elected as Pope (or on good relations with the Pope) and you'll be far more likely to get on his good side. Forming a military alliance with him also helps.
Eh, sortof. xD Once I capture the french castles, theyre not that great and I have to update them, but Im not the most strategic cookie and once I capture one, I dont retrain or anything, just send and capture more so my updating is kinda pointless ince im capturing more again but if I fail at the capture, or it it taken over I need my original french castles to be updated.
Generally speaking, a castle is a military centre where you train and retrain your army and a city is an economic centre where you make lots of money and agents. For example as England I would take Scotland out as fast as possible, then turn everything in Britain and Ireland into cities because they can be protected relatively easily by my nave, while the settlements on the north coast of France and the Low Countries are turned into castles because they are on the front line where the enemy are.
This lets me have an economic centre of gravity with max economic upgrades where most of my income comes from as well as a load of castles pointing towards France, Denmark, The Holy Roman Empire and Spain (if I can get to Bordeaux before the French, which is unlikely but sometimes happens).
England is an easier faction to do this with than Spain or Portugal though, but the principle holds.
With Portugal, I get Pamplona all teched out then I capture French castles and it seems like pamplona doesnt have a use any more. It's not really a question but.. what should I do, if that makes sence?! xD I dont want to make it a city after all that money poured into in, or should I?
Well one option is to use it as a troop-production centre and keep it as a high level castle (eg. you train your armies to take the New World there). Alternatively, you could invest a little less money in it (not building those buildings that aren't vital) and once it has served its purpose as a castle, convert it into a city.
Both are valid options but which is the better one depends entirely on your particular campaign and your preferred playing style.
Lets say that Im portugal and i capture all of Iberia (part of Moors (cordoba, granada) and all of Spain). Which places should i make Fort and which should I make City? I wanted to make Cordoba a Fort but it starts with Stone Wall so you cnat convert to Fort.
Generally speaking, you want to make Castles on the borders and Cities in the centre of your empire where they are relatively safe. There is no "correct" solution, so my best advice is to save the game and try something, then go back to it if it doesn't work out right.
why do they lift their pikes straight after the charge. shouldnt they be poking them to death like the greek phalanx. i hate total war for making pikes usless lol.
It's based on which units you can successfully attack by charging with heavy cavalry. This one is the ultimate bad example, there are four other examples including Peasants and Armoured Swordsmen, which are both very good targets.
i guess so, i mainly use knights to go around the enemy infantry (while engaged on mine) to make them charge on theyr backs, works everytime on moral xD
You must charge to pikeman but right before charging
you must stop ( to enemy should be a room for one line of cavalry) ,when stopped then double click on the pikemen and charge !!
I have played with this tactic only with gothic knights(in M2TW) against scottish best pikmen and even on the hardest difficulty it worked maybe it will not work on M2TW:K
The problem is that you lose the formed charge that way and in Kingdoms, cavalry have been nerfed. They only have 30 men in a unit now and their stats have been reduced as well. You might get away with it, but cavalry are a lot more fragile now so you need to use them more carefully (ie. flanking).

They are from Portugal actually. Very good pikemen.

Oh rofl, by what about spain I meant to kill them not to play as them ;p

What should I do about Moors. Should I just eliminate Moors from Europe or take em out completely? Attack them or request crusade?
For Spain, what should I do, never played long enough to do anything with them.

@elephantzel Well from the looks of it... yeah. He should have turned their flank first and then rolled in from the sides.
