  • I remember liking this song as a boy - I even owned the 45. But I was too young to understand it was about a guy coming up with excuses for sleeping around. Now I think I actually like the song even more. ;)

  • I'm sure your slide show is good but the flashing URL did my head in too much to watch it. Great song though, good memories, thanks for the music.

  • SORRY KIDS,THIS IS THE STORY OF THE GROWN JACK AND JILL.

  • MY SHIT..CD

  • The UnSung on Ray Parker Jr was awesome! Ray was a great guitarist before the Ghostbusters Fame I remember in the 80s. Only African Americans can creatively take a childhood nursery rhyme & soul-erize it, lol.

  • I was finishing my junior year (Spring 1978) of high school when this blew up! I was seriously in love too. This brings back timeless memories from a time in my life when times were carefree and life was less stressful and times were simple. iTunes really need to scan YouTube for for TRUE ole skool stuff. Great Job!!!!

  • i heard this yesterday for the first time in years, brought back 70's memories,

  • Thumbs down for the flashing url

  • Well, Ray is fabulous, but like Billy Joel (Uptown Girl/Ravel's Bolero) Ray derived hits from another source (In this case "Jack and Jill" from Sly Stone's "Stand").

And, it is said, his huge it Ghostbusters was derived from Huey Lewis and the News

    "I want a New Drug"

  • @JOBMusicScoring What's your point??????

  • jack should kick jill's ass to the curb.that ho

  • Dang Ray, you sholl is fyne!!!!

  • 1978, two yrs out of high school gave up over 10 basketball scholarships to marry my high school sweetheart, everybody called me stupid now just having celebrated our 32nd anniversary and 3 son's(30,26,23)and will be grandparents for the 2nd time may 1st i think i made the right decision, wife and i still put 70's music(even my 8-tracks lol) on weekends and dance half an afternoon away !

  • @use2slam2-- Right On! :)

  • @use2slam2 God bless you guys.....love over basketball....not many brothers would even consider doing this kind of act today, lol...takes a real man to spend the life with the lady he loves and reap the benefits years later with a happy marriage, kids and grandkids to boot!! and old school jams to play on the weekends!!!

  • @use2slam2 I like your comment, but I dont think you had to give up your basketball dream to get married, u coulda done both....im the class of 78 school & i still got 1000 8track tapes..I just bought a 1976 craig (new in the box) player...lol.....Tommy

  • @use2slam2 .......you ain't the only one that made the right decision way back when, use2slam2. keep it goin strong, man.

  • Lando Calrissian has some funk! Lmao

  • I WAS IN hmmm the 6th in my final year when i heard this what in the fuck happened to those years.

  • Nice post remember this from spring 1978

  • Pure smooth R&B at its best, adults writing meaningful songs with depth and playing melodies to support. Great group underrated for their time although Ray Parker did enjoy great solo writing and singing career throughout the 80's

  • hard to hear this! & nice to hear when I do.

  • Pure funk to the max!!!

  • I was Jill; what a walk down memory lane. Great song.

  • gerat musician

  • i love those pretty feet.

  • I bought this LP looooong time ago and I still have it... ...... heheheheeeeee

  • i love it !! I didn't know it was Ray Parker jr, !!!

  • rip ray parker jr

  • @jste77 Say what? He ain't dead - he's alive and well!!

  • Thats one of those good old songs!! loved it!. Brings me back to a time of being young and everything was much different then. We need some soul back in our music today...

  • great stuff!

  • Used to have this on a 45....listened to it all the time....he always reminded me of Billy Dee for some reason....

  • Move over STEVIE.....not really

  • what've we got, if, we aint got soul

  • it really is the kind of song, that takes us 40-something yr olds, back to the days where there was no gun violence..or crack....or a whole lot of black on black crime. Those days were a lot easier to deal with, even if you came from nothing, and every Saturday, you waited for Soul Train to come on, before you went outside to hit the streets with your buddies. Im "reppin' Washington, DC..and when I was a little guy, I heard this song, almost everyday.

  • @MisterCrazyLegs i live in wales the uk ,,it was the same here ,,everyone had nothing ,,we just loved to party and dance ,,now even my little town is full of drugs ,,and four murders withing 4 years

  • @xxpiggystardustxx small world, aint it?

  • @MisterCrazyLegs yes it is ,,but you get to meet some nice people who think alike ,,its the politicians that are fucking this world up ,,anyone whose a millionaire should'nt be allowed to be in any goverment unless their self made millionaires ,,,not the like the fuckers who are born into money ,,what do they know about how poor people live

  • @xxpiggystardustxx well, some of the self made millionaires are just as oppurunistic and devious as the ones who inherited the money. At the end of the day, millionaires, be them self made or not, have no business doing business on the political landscape. Yes, there have been some 'success stories' with them...but they are the exception, not the rule. Thats why I love music so much. Because its 'color blind' and doesnt alienate the listener, for the most part.

  • @MisterCrazyLegs I'm 22 years old & this song is my ringtone!!!!! I'm basically showing my love for 70s music in this sad day & age lol

  • @PopCulture20 thanx for the idea, Im thinking of doing the same thing, now...

  • still have my raydio 45 from when I was in the 2nd grade in 78...lol...I'm 39...loves my REAL music...lol

  • GOOD TIMES....YOUNG INNOCENT TIMES....

  • this is real music....my kind of music..

  • this had to be one of the SWEEETEST songs on radio back in the day when it came out.

  • @inbetweentics Amen to this!!! : )

  • Good hit from 1978 good times

  • RAY PARKER JR& RADIO FIRST CUT LOL

  • hey youll lets go way back to 1978 or 79 remember the snow of 79 we had i think 18 ins of snow

  • @ronaldlsmith1 are you talking about the notorious blizzard of 1978? (I was not born until 2 years later, but I hear about it)

  • sounds pretty good:)

  • Jack snuck down the hill... he needed love..

love... he couldn't get from Jill ????

    Jack's a fag!!!

  • @midknitetoker rotflmao

  • If this song does not make you shake your ass, you might be dead.

  • @GoinCreekin from hell to heaven :)

  • cool song

  • One of my favorite all time songs!

  • All I know is Jack came down the hill with $20 less. And old mother goose... well whatever.

  • @2009Denisem you sure know how to start my night off :-) whatta jam let's get down!

  • Dislike Knock off the flashing annotate

  • I was listening to Ghostbusters when I remembered this song - This song was an amazing part of my youth - Thank you for the post!

  • I understand that Ghostbusters was a #1 hit, but that song was kinda overrated to me & Parker's other classics such as ''Jack & Jill'' & ''Let Go'' should've gotten more mainstream respect.

  • @PopCulture20 - I feel you man - Ray got slighted because of the mass media nonsense - I was just saying that "Ghostbusters" always reminds me of him - Peace...

  • One of a kind !!!!! the pure funk.

  • FEMALES...LOOK OUT FOR SANCHA OK... LOL... OR LIKE BETTY WRIGHT SAYS... CLEAN UP WOMAN....WHY DO U THINK JACK..SNUCK DOWN THE HILL...

  • Oh wow, thank you so much for bringing this music to YouTube!! I practically know all the lyrics to each song Ray Parker, Jr. and Raydio produced!

  • Yes Raydio was one of the most favored groups out there: Ray Parker is unique in his own way, and you gotta respect, those was such innocent and fun times back, but the music sounds just as good today as it did back then, 8th grade prom, skating, the good hang outs, school mates birthday partys, weekend trips and vacations, those we're good days.

  • ah, the memories.....the children used to gossip ENDLESSLY about these two..Always wondered why they never showed up for school....guess the RUMORS were true....

  • Learned how to do the Cha-Cha to this song @ 10 years of age. Good memories. Tamara Lyons, if you're still out there, I was in love with you then.

  • Hello,

I would like to know who is the man being featured in and out of the photos with the guitar wearing dreads? What has happened to Ray Parker Jr.

  • For those who don't know anything about this music and made comments. Ray Parker Jr, is not only talented but the group Raydio was an awesome group to this date. Hot 100 and R&B charts while also reaching #11 on the UK singles chart. To say this song is bad means that you have no clue about this type of music. Maybe if we mention that Ray Parker Jr also wrote the theme to "Ghostbuster", maybe that might bring you up to speed. Great song, great decade.

  • although ray parker jr became the star of the group. it was Jerry Knight that consistantly out sang and out performed him. they both had careers after the band broke up, but Ray became an 80s megastar.

  • man great post loader!....took a young brother(37) back...lol

  • @2009Denisem Now this comes from back in the day.....classic dating song this.....Love this......great post....wonderful

  • Wow - back in the days. Music was good - the artists had TALENT. Today's music is just plain garbage. Old school funk, disco, rock - just great stuff. It all had nice meaning, nice feeling. Today''s crap is all about killing, getting STD's from as many women as possible and being broke. Sad state of affairs!!

  • wow this brings back alot of memories... I havent heard this song since I was in school... along time ago.

  • I was just sitting here constructing a crossword puzzle and had the sequence --YD--. Oh, I could have gone with PAYDAY, SNYDER or SPYDER.

But I did a search of the sequence and saw RAYDIO.

I remembered that name but not the record I had. Went to Wikipedia and recognized "Jack and Jill" as the title. Couldn't remember a thing about it as it's been 30 years since I've heard it.

Came here and it started playing. Now I remember why I bought this record all those years ago.

  • i guess everybody knows a jack and jill....in my case jack and jill were lovers at my high school....Jill was sweet 16 and big busted.... Jack was 48 and GOT busted when the principal found out about Jill

  • TO: Precise305...HAVE YOU LOST YOUR DAMN MIND! This is a classic! You're in the wrong genre of music. Country music is 5 pages over...FOOL! What are you doing here? Also, why would producers laugh at a song they are producing...IDIOT!

  • have this song on a 45!

  • @precise305 You must have a taste in bad music then. Sorry we can't take you back to the 70's, an era of better music, ya stupid hipster

  • @clinger26 ??????

  • wow! clearly from the ebonics... a lot of black fans of this song.

However, This cracker likes it too.

  • GREAT memories!!!...I was in 4th grade....this reminds me of summer camp....playing stickball in the street....LONG days spent playing at the rec center in my 'hood....this reminds me of visits to NYC to visit my Dad....LOVE THIS SHIT!!....LOLOL.

  • Man - what memories. Going to the Dodger games for two bucks in the summer!!! Damn - why can't today's music be like this? Simple, yet moving, with a deep meaning??? Lord - today's music is just shit.

  • @steelerdave2000 AMEN, I TOTALLY AGREE

  • thank you soooooo much for posting this song, I especially luv the lyrics ;) Classic!

  • love it !!!!

  • I just bought the 12" single of 'The OTher Woman", and it has this song as the B side called "Jack and Jill '82" credited only to Ray,. not Raydio.

  • my beautiful daughter's song.....

  • Oh wow, I haven't heard this song in ages!! I was 8 when it came out, and even at that young age, I could tell it was clever. It wasn't outright "dirty" so me and mom could both listen to it together. Lots of nuances-- not always explicit like most vocalists today.

The song has great chord progressions.

Also, I didn't know any of that info you told us in the description, so thank you for being a historian and not letting these songs slip away.

    Blu

  • i like the sistas in the background, btw, Ray is STILL a very handsome man today!

  • Me too I like that song I remember of my girl friend Rosa at march from 1978 what a wonderfull season I love that song and to her

  • I can't wait for the Chorus. Nice, very nice! Just makes me thump my heel to the ground

  • I love that song. It touches my heart very well.

  • Great sound from the late 1970s.

  • this real is real r&b love it.

    I vividly remember this song.

    Dag, I'm old.
