I love how Gilmour has managed the last few re-imaginings of a few older Floyd tunes. This one and Echoes from his Remember that Night DVD. I have found that in my opinion they are better than the originals while still retaining most of the flavor of those originals.
One of the few songs of Floyd that David and Syd played together (along with "A saucerful of secrets " and "Set the controls..". He influenced the way I (and we) played. R.I.P. Richard Wright. We'll miss you.
My favourite Rick Wright tune definitely. For those who mentioned it was never played live, it was "mimed" live in early years but apparently Rick was always uncomfortable with his own lyrics. With this song though, it is too bad he did not sing it cause the song is so innocent.
Oh and to jorkanmx, Dave never played on this song originally. It was Syd on slide. The song was recorded during the Piper sessions but not used on that album.
One of my favorite Floyd songs and this is an awesome version of it here. Richard Wright was an under rated member of Pink Floyd and may he rest in peace.
@jorkanmx the first guitar part in the actual song... Syd Barrett was invited, and used a steel guitar to play some of the guitar parts Gilmour is playing.
@boogie1master You got it, Jorankmx! And Syd's slide is what gives the original its edge. But I am mightily impressed with this version....even if Dave's facial spots are in evidence.
@jorkanmx about nr.2 wasnt that let there be more light? as far as i see it, the original recording doesnt even feature david gilmour ( slide guitar was syd barrett)
@jorkanmx actually Gilmour didn't recorded this song. It was intended to be on Piper At The gates of Dawn, but they didnt released it because there was no space on vinyl to put it into...
Also, in this performance, Roger Waters borrowed to Guy Pratt his original Rickenbacker bass, which he used to record the song back in 1967.
Amazing, sounds soo good. They could have really butchered this song, but instead they really kept the integrity of the original recording in tact. Great to see Gilmour with the Tele. The bassist did a great job too. He had the tone of that Rik near perfect compared to the original.
Im pretty sure this is the only live performance theve done of this song.

I thought Guy playing a red Rick 4001 bass, just like Roger used to play in the early days of Floyd, was a subtle and touching gesture.
I felt Jon Carin brought the song to life - the piano parts were PERFECT. I'm glad it was Jon and no one else playing that.
Steve doing Nick's drum line was great. Phil, playing along with Dave, was tasteful and superb.
David sang and played wonderfully; it's as though 40 years HADN'T passed. You could see and feel the emotion. The fact that it was Rick's fi

A magnificent tribute to both Rick and Syd.
A genuine pity they never did it live when they were both still alive.

One of my fav songs. This tribute is perfect.
But is so sad to know that it reveals 8 blue histories in 4:30 minutes:
1.- First Wright recorded composition.
2.- First Gilmour's song recorded playing with PF.
3.- PF never played in concerts.
4.- Wright couldn't perform it again.
5.- Gilmour's expression.
6.- Wright also compose in this song his own tribute in the final line "Reee-member".
7.- This song and this musician never had the honour they deserve.
8.- RIP Richard Wright.

don't forget, syd played the slide guitar parts on the album. so 2 of the 3 people on the album track are currently deceased.
RIP Rick Wright
RIP Syd Barrett
