  • Sickling is when you are putting to much weight on your little toes and feet. You also don't want to roll in your feet by putting to much weight on your front toes and feet. You want to put weight evenly on your toes and feet. I used to have a problem rolling in my feet, and one on my ballet directors said that rolling in your feet can cause hip injuries. I hope I helped.:)

  • good example, but for those who dont get it to sicke is to have the toes over the heels in reference to tendus for demi point (releve) its pushing the heels out/and or back

Amelie soft, to be exact i think, frum bloch though im not entirely sure yet. im 13 and i was just wondering if you can go onto pointe with soft blocks or not. if you see the shoes they basicly look like pointes... theres been so much info on the web about yes and no that its not getting me anywhere... plz help!! sum1..?

  • the weight should be kept in the ball of your foot. sickling is SO UGLY!!!!!! and it hurts after a while of doing it.

  • everyones saying that it shouldnt be on the big toe. but if you think about putting your weight on your big toe then the weight disperses to the correct place which is around the ball of your foot

  • you shouldn't keep most of your weight on one toe actually. yes keeping it on your pinky toe is bad. but its just as bad to put it all on your big toe. all weight should be distributed evenly through all the toes.

  • please don't tell anyone to put all their weight in their big toe every again. you'll break your ankle without question if you're en pointe. the weight should be in the center of the feet spread evenly between all of the toes. what you're talking about is winging, which is nice, for the free foot in an arabesque, but it is very bad for a standing foot and certainly not a straight foot by any means.

  • A fetish develops through classical conditioning. It has nothing to do with pheromones or nerve endings. The feet do not have the highest concentrations of nerve endings, the highest concentration would be in the genitals (otherwise you wouldn't have orgasms). Basicly, a fetish develops the same way a phobia does but because it gets people off, they don't want to get it treated. And as long as you don't prefer the feet over the person they're attached to, it's not necessary either.

  • @peter357 It also works your ankles the wrong way, usually leading to injury..BAD injuries. If you go on pointe like that, you will most likely strain or break your ankles. And as said, it creates a bad line. You want nice and clean (:

  • what if... i do not sickle, but the shape of my feet make it look as if i AM sickling, so i have to push or pronate to compensate...i have very flat feet. what can i do?

  • flat feet is not always good but you could always fix it by some excersises like rolling your feet on a glass cola bottle

  • really its almost phsycologicaly thinking. if u dont think of your feet you could easily sickle. What you do is basicaly IMAGINE being on top of your big toe and most of the work is in the heel in which you would have to move inward. hope that helped

  • I am glad you have put this up, because some people don't know. I used to sickle in tap, and it is hard to distribute my weight evenly because I have quite square feet. On the southern strutt dance website one of the pictures on the slideshow shows a girl sickling really badly and it really annoys me!

  • Actually, when you go onto demi pointe, you should level your weight between your first 3 toes: BIg toe, 2 toe, and middle toe!

If a girl is doing ballet exercises to get constructive critique, she doesn't look for "your feet are so hot"-comments. Those comments are okay if a video title says "my oh so hot barefoot floor pointe with super sexy ballet feet", but I didn't find videos like that yet, fortunately ;D

  • Well, I don't mean so much for you to demonstrate sickling. You've shown that quite well. But the only angle of your feet you haven't shown in your videos has been the bottoms. No one does a demi-pointe video facing the other way. I think it would be different and unique.
