A lot more engineering is put into a car that can handle than a car that can go fast in a straight line. Good thing that CTS-V didn't find its way into a turn in that race lol. Plus, isn't the CTS-V of that generation in the video a supercharged LS6? Lets supercharge the IS-F and race again :).
The CTS-V doesn't compete directly if at all with the IS-F. The CTS-V is more M5 territory. That's why Cadillac is coming out with the smaller ATS which is the 3 series killer.

Engine defects, the LS series of small block V8 from GM are some of the best engines ever built. According Wards 10 best engines of all time GM has three entries Toyota only appears once. I will beat you have never owned a car with an LS powerplant, having over 400 hp and still achieving 27 mpg. Simple to maintain and reliable, if your going to try and convince me that these engines are overly problematic then don’t waste your time, because it is a fairy tale.

@krackatony Haven't spend a dime on maintenance. BMW has covered it for the past 4 years, but I'll be honest, the fact that my free ride is over is playing a lot into my decision to sell the car. BMW's free maintenance really is a pretty slick little plan. You literally only pay for tires and gas, they cover the bill on EVERYTHING else. The Lexus IS-F I'm getting won't have the maintenance covered, but it will be under warranty (the powertrain that is) for 7 years, 70,000 miles.
Sure Porsches and Ferarris might be some of the better cars in the world. But the MAIN point eurosnobs need to keep in mind while lusting for the exotic, is bang for the BUCK. porsche company is and will always be better than GM. The interior on a porsche is as real as it gets with genuine craftmanship and not PLASTIC. GM's interior is made of vinyl/leather and lots of plastic and has headrests with rocks in em'. The porsche is made for fast on straights and being great through the corners. Porsche has also changed their motors each year to make their performance better and also make a different engine for each car. Cadillac took the engine out of a Z06

@TheGanglyy check out the 'Lighting lap" article in the car and driver archives. the V smoked the ISF, around the track at VIR. (finished ahead of the M3, S5, S4, SL65 Black and many others) it also set the nurburgring lap record for sedans.
GM is nowhere near Japan and Germany cars. That caddy will be in the shop in couple years, while lexus and porsche still on the street. uneven race...put 556hp on both cars and that caddy will not even near.

@dpwatup I hope you're not talking about the blue IS-F on YouTube that's supposedly "twin turbo". There's a big difference between a properly turbo'd engine and one with muffler turbos - primarily about 20 extra feet of piping for the exhaust to travel. With the already hulking LS-600h V8 sitting in the bonnet, it would be pretty hard to even fit two proper turbos in a IS-F. You'd have more luck supercharging one and getting a bulged (more so than it already is) hood.

Here is an unbiased view. I own a Carrera and seriously considering buying the new CTS-V for a daily driver. Taking the ISF out of the discussion, the comparison here is a '09+ CTS-V versus a '99-'01 Carrera. That is 256hp difference and 10 yrs of technology. A better comparison would be a Panamera Turbo. If you do the research, the Panamera Turbo lapped the Nordschleife in 7:56, 3 sec. faster than the Cadillac. That's just the facts. Bottom line, GM is finally stepping up!

it would be the other way around on race track..look at the numbers cadillac 550hp 550torque 4200lbs 6.2L. Lexus ISF 420hp 370torque 3780lbs 5.0L. the Porsche look to be a cayman s 295hp 250torque 2950lbs 3.4L. you can tell what car was going to win with power to weight %. CTS-V .132 / Lexus ISF .111 / Porsche .100. if it was a 911 turbo(997) it would look like this 480hp 457torque 3490lbs 3.6L power to weight is .137 and it AWD.
Unless you get the Turbo or one of the GT models, 2, 3 or RS, 911's arent really fast cars. Cant beat new camaro and mustang in a drag rac or it might be very close. Of course a 556 hp Cadillac will beat an (i believe) older 911 which maybe has a little over 300hp.
Put a turbo or supercharger on that ISF and or 911 and we would see a very different race. 6+ liter Supercharged V-8 vs. 5 litre N/A V8 and sub 4L N/A F6, It would be pretty sad if it couldnt win!

@krackatony Haven't spend a dime on maintenance. BMW has covered it for the past 4 years, but I'll be honest, the fact that my free ride is over is playing a lot into my decision to sell the car. BMW's free maintenance really is a pretty slick little plan. You literally only pay for tires and gas, they cover the bill on EVERYTHING else. The Lexus IS-F I'm getting won't have the maintenance covered, but it will be under warranty (the powertrain that is) for 7 years, 70,000 miles.

porsche company is and will always be better than GM. The interior on a porsche is as real as it gets with genuine craftmanship and not PLASTIC. GM's interior is made of vinyl/leather and lots of plastic and has headrests with rocks in em'. The porsche is made for fast on straights and being great through the corners. Porsche has also changed their motors each year to make their performance better and also make a different engine for each car. Cadillac took the engine out of a Z06

@loplips Both are great cars, but look at what you get for your money. Also look at which holds there resale value better. There is a modded 2009 V on eBay right now for 42k that has 600 RWHP. Now THAT is a steal.

They both cost the same but the CTS-V is the world's fastest production sedan and it is easily upgradeable, while the ISF has 416 hp. @dpwatup I hope you're not talking about the blue IS-F on YouTube that's supposedly "twin turbo". There's a big difference between a properly turbo'd engine and one with muffler turbos - primarily about 20 extra feet of piping for the exhaust to travel. With the already hulking LS-600h V8 sitting in the bonnet, it would be pretty hard to even fit two proper turbos in a IS-F. You'd have more luck supercharging one and getting a bulged (more so than it already is) hood.

I read that Car and Driver repeatedly got 0-60 times of just 3.4 seconds from the Panamera not too long ago. Here is an unbiased view. I own a Carrera and seriously considering buying the new CTS-V for a daily driver. Taking the ISF out of the discussion, the comparison here is a '09+ CTS-V versus a '99-'01 Carrera. That is 256hp difference and 10 yrs of technology. A better comparison would be a Panamera Turbo. If you do the research, the Panamera Turbo lapped the Nordschleife in 7:56, 3 sec. faster than the Cadillac. That's just the facts. Bottom line, GM is finally stepping up!

I was indicating that a better comparison would be to use a more recent model and not one that has ~10 yrs difference in manufacture date to the others. it would be the other way around on race track..look at the numbers cadillac 550hp 550torque 4200lbs 6.2L. Lexus ISF 420hp 370torque 3780lbs 5.0L. the Porsche look to be a cayman s 295hp 250torque 2950lbs 3.4L. you can tell what car was going to win with power to weight %. CTS-V .132 / Lexus ISF .111 / Porsche .100. if it was a 911 turbo(997) it would look like this 480hp 457torque 3490lbs 3.6L power to weight is .137 and it AWD.
