I both cleaned and replaced my air engine valve on my 1992 honda civic dx, but I still have the same reving problem in park. Also I have in the past two months replaced the head gaskett and the timming belt. Any Suggestions?
Thank you for this video I finally cleaned mine today there was gunk all around the circle and a clear middle ,bought some Oreillys carb cleaner and sprayed it and the hole was clean of all the gunk noticed a difference starting and stopping at a stop idling . Thanks .
@blackericdenice LOL YUP I was looking up A/C problems like I have, where my A/C only works for a while and then starts cycling on and off, and the RPMs drop heavily when I turn the A/C on. I've had people tell me it was the A/C compressor clutch, the compressor itself is bad, etc. Anyway from my search it turns out it could be (should be) the air idle control valve. I am about to take it out and clean it, ASAP.
my 93 honda civic (169,000 mi.) shakes a lot when I'm at stopped at a red light, stop sign..etc, i have to put it on neutral so it won shake that much and when i turn the AC it gets worst and the car shuts off.... anyone knows if cleaning the IACV will fix this problem? or what could it be? please help!
yo where did you get your little filter on the valve cover? The engine breather hole or whatever it is called? I have been looking everywhere for one lol
Nice video. My 98 civic would idle fine until warm, then it would yo-yo idle from 1000, to 1700 and back down repeat, whenever I was at a stop. Really annoying. Also throwing a CEL. I diagnosed the CEL and it came back with an IACV error. My IACV was gunked up. Cleaned it up and it idles great now. I like your turbo D - the little engine that could.
@nx2overide Where do the hoses go that are on the iac . i bought a car thinkin the iac valve was bad but found out that neither of the hoses were on it .
fuck today I spent like 5 hours trying to figure out the rought idling , low almost dying when in gear on my 89 lxi honda , finaly I gave up and decided to do some research online got the answer in about 2 minutes through google , what a dumb ass lol , thanks for the vid man , just a little tip for others just in case , look for the intake , throttle body on your vechicle and this piece of shit must be there near it , thanks again man and keep up the good work .
lol i acutally cleaned mine a few days ago.. i also have a 93 civic coup everytime i started the car it would idle up and down for about a min or so then stop
Thanks for the video it was well done. Mine has low idle and it has new air filter, sparks plugs, o2 sensor, basically all tuned up just idles low. My alternator and fuel pump is really old so they might be next thing replaced also. If cleaning the IACV doesn't work.
@PRZJ91 LOL i wouldn't say guru but yes i have done a couple turbo mods and swaps with friends. Fun Fun. Been planning for my other civic but I got to get the funds together to do the swap. I want to go B16 Swap with a stage 5 turbo kit. I already have a new fly wheel and trany ready i just got to crate the engine and get the turbo kit.
@nx2overide niiiice.....im headin off to UTI in august and hopefully gonna fulfill my dream with pursuing cars.......its good to see you doing well bro......keep it up
It can also be located on the front of your intake manifold. After cleaning the IACV its also really good to clean the valve inside it where more build-up is located.
I suggest if you are having this problem, get it fixed ASAP.. don't wait like I did lol. Actually got rear-ended because my car stalled out making a right hand turn at a stoplight. 2500$ later the damages are repaired, could have saved myself a huge headache.
Thanks for posting this. I bought a '96 civic and it's having simular problems. This is a great video to show me what the problem could be and how to fix it. Thanks.
Can anyone give me any ideas? I have a 87' honda accord and the idle still surges after i cleaned the idle control valve...it doesnt surge constantly but will surge if the engine is cold or hot....ant ideas will help.....thanks
my car did this for a while. it was a loose nut on the downpipe area connecting to the header, if theres any leak in your vacumme intake, exhaust wherever it does this.
Sometimes when i start my car, espcialy in the mornings or on cold days as well as really hot days, my idle will stick somtimes at 2000 RPMs or a littler lower but will Eventualy die down, do u think it might be the ( IACV) i would really like someones help! haha get back to me if u know anything?
@TheSavannahlewis Its most likley located in the same place.. they look the same on hondas so you should be able to find it pretty easy, and yes it can cause a car to stall. glad i could help!
Question I have a 1995 civic DX ,it starts fine ,drives fine after starting but if I come to a stoplight and idle it sounds like its going to die but doesnt it seems to just occur in mornings particulary on cold mornings it drives fine and idles fine when I drive back home from work would this solve my problem ?? thanks
@pokerrock ya i have a 97 civic hx and it only does that at lights also but only when the car is in driveand reverse, if i put it in park or neutral it idles fine any help if you figured out anything. be very helpful
@nicknintytwo tuned it up doesnt do it anymore . But while idling only in the morning you hear a pause sometimes in the engine but its fine as soon as I warm it up and drive it now. I just want to probably do this on the video cuz it does have 189k miles on it.
@delacerdaa Yeah......but I don`t know mechanics nor do I have the tools. I wish I did......I`m going to start buying tools now that all these mechanic videos are on you tube.

@Warhawke08 rock on! yep it was purple but who ever had it before me painted the car black.. looks more brown though, They didnt paint the jams or engine compartment..lol
its a “must” to replacement but it's quite expensive parts for Honda!... it will cause about $250 around that price!!! but it's worth it and it will last for a long period of time to replace it again!... if you clean it you'll have the same problem over and over again! just for a few days it will come back! so the best thing to do is replace the parts!...
I got low idle on my car and people been saying it might be my IACV and to clean it...BUT they never never never never say how to do it or where it is.
That's when i saw this video..just wanted to thank you! I got a 92 civic that I use as work car but it stalls all the time so it's not going anywhere but cleaning the IACV is a start on finding out what's wrong with my car.
hey man nice vid. got one question- randomly at the beginning of my drive my car seems to choke. im cruising going thru gears when out of nowhere my seems to be dying down. i give it gas and nothing until i give it enough or get to 3k and it shoot out. if i put it in neutral or stop it boggs down to maybe 200rpm then idles back to 800. i cleaned the iacv and still have the problem. any suggestions?
I'm having problems with my idle but i'm not exactly mechanically minded. Anyone know where id be able to find out where the IACV is on a 1992 primera?
hey! this was a great vid :) I have a problem with my car as well, But it seems to jump rpm's ???? and at cold start it will not stay started at all unless i warm it up??? any ideas?? It just doesn't sound right?? if you can txt me plz do 719-778-2873 thanks
Nice video. I'm not sure if this has been said, but you might consider leaving the parts on longer. I read fast enough, and had to go back and pause it every time a text frame came along. The video helped, even though I have a Toyota!
yo man I also have a civic hatch 94,,with a little t25 on it,I had my ecu tuned,,,this time the knock sensor is off,,and also the launch control is set,,,it did not have those 2 before, and its not always but sometimes when I turn the car it will idle low,,,and sometimes is idles normally,,its like 50/50,is there some kind of a trick with the ignition, like to turn the key over without the clutch so it resets something? cause I dont know man,or is this caused mainly by the knock sensor,
nvm,,,I got it,,,well it turns out to be a bad tune,,,I had a full before but,,,I had the car stolen and the ecu with it,,,,so I got a basic crome tune,,,,,,I swapped another tuned ecu from a different car just to see how is it,,,,,,, and it worked perfect,,,,well will probably get a full tune after the winter because I will not drive the car in the winter,,,,peace
hey man, Im pretty sure the problem with my car is my IACV. was your honda having alot of up and down rev'ing? mine is doing it alot and I have videos of it on my youtube account. Im trying to see if its easier to clean it then replacing it. which is how I came across your video.
I just wanted to see if you were having the same issues I was- and that cleaning would be my first bet at fixing it? comment back or send me a message (if you could, message me I notice it easier haha)
aye bro i gotta 95civic dx and my lights flicker with the engine and i have a low idle if u need i could post a vid so u could see what i am talking about how can i fix this prob ?
hey i got a 96 honda civic dx with the 16 valve and i just cleaned my iacv and i still have the rough idle what else can it be?? im guna look it over tomaorw and see if i have any vacum leaks. but any sugtions on what else it can be?? thanks
i did a intake leak by taking the air filter off and i tryed to stall it well it didnt stall. it sounded like it was sucking air under my tb(throttle body). bad tb gasget maybe??
96 and up don't got fitv's brah, its just 95 and down, thats why iacv's are the most common problem. What kind of idle does it have? up and down idle ( fast )? or is it just a rough idle in general?
hey brah just a quick qustion, those two hoses are filled with coolant right? i got a honda civic 1990, i was just worrying that if i pull them two out that my coolant will drain out, i'm abit cheap i guess. Can i just clean the iacv without unhooking the hoses?
Dude! I tried soooo hard to come up with a creative response to this video but, I am such a mechanical dumbass there is nothing I can say except, I like watching your videos, even if the content goes so far over my head it might as well be a rocket to the moon! lol
LOL i was just bored and figured half my viewers would be like what the hell? Hes a mechanic too..lol I just tinker and figured it may help someone as i look for videos like this when i cant figure something out. If it helps one person it was worth uploading.

I just wanted to see if you were having the same issues I was- and that cleaning would be my first bet at fixing it? comment back or send me a message (if you could, message me I notice it easier haha)

you could try cleaning your FITV (Fast Idle Thermo Valve)

i did a intake leak by taking the air filter off and i tryed to stall it well it didnt stall. it sounded like it was sucking air under my tb(throttle body). bad tb gasget maybe??
bmxjosh25 2 years ago
@bmxjosh25 sounds like it... id replace it and try again to see it you can get it to stall.

HarleyStcool 2 years ago
you will only lose a tiny bit it shouldnt drain.

I cleaned the IACV correctly and extensively.
i also put silicone around all the seals incase it's due to a vacum leak. (both IACV & FICV)
AND look the throttle body off and cleaned that (all the gallies and pasages)
still experiencing the fluctuations at operating temp.... Think maybe replace the IACV all together incase it's due to the electrical side of it?
vtcftw 2 years ago
weird.. yep could be a bad iacv let me know what you find thats odd.
nx2overide 2 years ago
Darn!
I cleaned my FICV... will clean the IACV in the morning.
your thoughts on adjusting the "idle adjust screw"?
Nice car, i have an ej1
vtcftw 2 years ago
I wouldn't mess with the idle screw unless the car is idling so low it stalls. after you get the Fluctuating idle stabilized then you can adjust it.
Yep i need to clean the FICV on my other civic. i will probably make a video on that too.
Thanks hope it helps.
