Most Nyro fans hail this performance as her best vocally, and deservedly so... She was in exceptionally good voice here, and her range and clarity are outstanding. Many of her little vocal weaknesses that even made it onto her records are nowhere to be seen, so it is indeed a great performance in every way.
Apparently, she also appeared live in concert on BBC TV in the late sixties. Noone seems to know that has been wiped too. Can any Beeb employees out there find out???
The "creep guy" is one of rock'n'roll's all-time greats, Bobby Darin. His is a very inspirational story. He was born with a heart condition and doctors didn't think he'd live long after birth. He lived long enough to become a legend but died in 1973 aged 37 years.
@uVueD2b This is Laura's only television appearance that has survived, uVueD2b. Her other appearance was on PBS' 'Critique' in 1969. Unfortunately, the video tape was wiped and reused which was a common practice in those days to save on costs. Fortunately, however, a fan recorded the audio onto an audio tape so the audio of that appearance has survived. YouTube won't allow a link, but if you do a search on Laura Nyro, bigozine, the first time, it should come up at the top of the page.
@denknee I tried the search and it says the tracks are no longer available for download. Just out of sheer curiousity, how the heck did you get this footage? You have a pretty valuable commodity here, the only TV performance by one of the great songwriters of all time, who still has a cult-like following from performers and fans all over the world.
7:18...look at that beautiful smile...every time I see it I fall in love all over again...I hope somehow that she knows it...she remains truly loved by many special people, and Bobby Darren reminds us of just how hip he was....Thank So Much for the posting Mr. DNE...PEACE...
What a beautiful person she was! I wish I would have paid more attention to her career while she was alive, but I was too into rock n roll at the time. Well, at least we have these videos and her recordings.
wow, i have never seen the whole performance, introduction, etc. This is like gold! Thank you for posting!

Just came across this artist randomly, sadly I'd never heard of her, so impressive, fabulous, beautiful.
Thank you.

Beautiful! It breaks my heart to think that Laura once considered doing her own TV special. Can you imagine what a treasure THAT would be for us now?
So few video clips of her exist, but I could watch them on a loop for all of eternity.... Thank you so much for posting this.

Thanks for posting this denknee. I thought it had been removed so I reposted it. I've since removed what I posted.
Any chance I might be able to see the videos of Laura from 1994 that you set to private? I'd much appreciate it.
Thanks again.
