  • Jesus... It really moved me when I heard the Smoke Monster give out a little chuckle...

  • I love LOST as much as any other fan... but pause at 2:28.

  • this is almost the most emotional scene in the show. but i presonally think Juliettes death was much more emotional. same with charlie

  • what song plays in this video

  • The black smoke intrigues me, I want him as a pet

  • Yesterday I watched this episode...

I cried... I could feel, how he is suffering.

    Unbelievable good actor!

  • Poor Ben, this scene was heartbreaking. He only ever truly loved two things: Alex and the Island, and he had to choose...

  • 1:09 "Help me" uuugh that is just so sad, one of the saddest scenes on lost IMO

  • #LOL

  • LOL

  • So MIB took alex's body to make Ben follow him...shit that's weird, i thought he can take only appearences of people that arrived dead to the island

  • @MegaQuote No, he can only take the appearances of those that are buried on the island...I think...

  • @Creekpaw He took the appearance of Locke before, he was buried, so i guess you are wrong

  • @Creekpaw

Nope, for example he took the form of Richard's dead wive Isabella when Richard first appeared on the island.

I think the only restriction (which was never stated) was that he could take the form of dead people.

  • @ianwestc I think all of this sounds like possible theories, only problem i have is why he could take the form of Walt. He never died in the series...

  • @krauseristheman Ah, but that's assuming that the appearances of Walt were actually the Smoke Monster. I think Walt was "special" and that Walt's appearances might actually have been Walt.

  • @ianwestc Yeah, that could be tha case... It's a shame we didn't see more about why he was special

  • @MegaQuote its people whos bodies are on the island.

  • @MegaQuote

I think what happens is that when the monster makes that flash he obsorbs their memories but is not able to look like someone who is still alive. I think thats why they need to bury people, Smokey can't dig up graves. I would like to know who that was in Jacob's cabin because it can't be Mr Smoke, he isn't allowed to enter the circle of ash x_x

  • @CosmicUndeadElf yes! but there were gaps in that circle of ash around the cabin, if you can remember!

  • @CosmicUndeadElf Remember to, the circle of ash was cut, left open jsut a tiny bit, so smokey could have squeezed in between that crack to have entered into the cabin. Maybe Locke or someone accidently stepped on the black powder particles, and made a small opening for smokey to enter, because it wasn't complete when the Ajaro flight passengers who were Jacobs followers had found it.

  • This scene is one of my favorite scenes from the entire show.

  • Ben's not having a very good time...

  • Wwoooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.................. luv that smoke sound =P

  • Such a sad scene...I cried. Michael Emerson is AMAZING

  • i am the black smoke OMG can u imagine if this was all true but we were all on the island lol

  • I love the Alex aparition, it's amazing, she looks awesome, incredible... It's a terrible scene

  • the monster underestimated ben.....

  • now that we know that john is actually smokey in the 5th season, can we conclude that this is the same smokey as alex, or is this smokey nr 2 (maybe jacob vs brother / smokey vs smokey)??

    thoughts?

  • The video stops right before one of the best parts - whereby Ben looks up at Locke and says: "It let me live" (in Mr. Emerson's fantastic voice).

  • BEN MATO A LOCKE y que pasasra veo que estan enun tablero de ajedrez y hay dos dioses egipcios CREO QUE SON OSIRIS Y RA

  • This is one of the greatest moments of any television programs of all time. IMO.

  • Best Moment of episode

  • i wouldnt call this judgment as much as i would call it manipulation

  • @nyprimus4 Well, at the time, we didn't know that the smoke monster was locke, but you have a point.

  • that scene is great, one of my favorites of the season. It' so so overwhelming and sad, it almost makes me cry every time! Michael Emerson is a great actor, i love bne's caracter and the music here is so swell

  • well said

it almost makes me cry too. i feel bad for ben for some reason

  • any1 knows the soundtracks name ?

  • Dharmacide :)

  • tnx ^^

  • when i first started liking Ben, it was because he was evil and manipulative, along with extremely intelligent. but when i found out he was a sucker for kids, then i liked him because he was sorta cute too. he didn't kill alex or her mother simply because alex was a baby and he didn't kill penny because she had a little boy...well desmond beating the shit out of him might also have something to do with it but...

  • Wow... even if the CGI here isnt the greatest this scene is still amazing!

  • what is the name of the song when ben is looking at the images of his daughter? (sad theme)

  • dharmacide

  • Think that Jacob and Man #2 obviously represent good and bad views on humans and mortals which makes them god like and immortal. Jacob brings people to the island so he can prove Man #2 wrong and say that humans are worthy of living on their little god island whereas Man #2 only wants to enslave the humans and use them to his advantage by finding loopholes and using their images to sustain his life. HOWEVER i do not think the smoke monster is fake locke, its more like a judgment god.

  • Sorry i ran outta space, i know the monster judges people but in a way i think its judges both Jacob and Man #2. It certianly looks more evil than good but hey who knows.

  • do you not think that the black smoke is man2?

and it takes on many forms including a john locke, a yemi, a christian shepherd etc!!

  • Ya me too, represents the Black and white of the season one that john locke was talking about. The monster is using ben here with manipulation.

  • i think the smoke monster took over lockes body like he did with alex and the smoke monster was the guy in the beginning talking to jacob

  • Well This my Theory The Island has connections to Egypt and Jacob could be an ancient Person, he hates technology and hunts his food, and Richard Alpert could has the same qualities

  • Alpert if from the future and they don't age until they reach the year that they would have aged in a linear normal life....

  • why was the monster killing people before then?

  • After seeing this scene and the last Jacob scene in the finale, Lost is the first truly epic tv show.

  • He's talking about epicness, not about good shows.

  • No offence but to me it is. 24 is having it's final season too so Lost and 24 are the only shows I watch. Lost is the reason why I watched TV in the first place. I was hoping that Pushing Dasies would be that show to watch after both are gone but that's not the case.

  • One of the most intruging and speculative parts of lost IMO

  • Agreed.

  • Your comments are really disturbing. By trying to solve the mystery of Smokie, you are missing the most important part of this brilliant scene. Ben is the only one that matters in this scene. Ben and his repentance. He really griefs over Alex's death.

  • I'm not ignoring that; I think this was one of the most touching scenes so far. I'm just putting that aside to think about the mystery I'm most interested in.

  • I'm just interested to learn what the damn thing is. Signs point to some kind of Egyptian god, but which? The carving on the wall seems to depict the monster standing up to Anubis, but I'm not familiar enough with Egyptian mythology. Was there an Egyptian god who judged people like that?

  • The figure represented is likely to be Ammit, a servant of Anubis. The Monster could be that underworldly creature.

  • Hm, a friend of mine recently suggested Osiris, who apparently judged people in a similar way. I think it has to be some kind of adversary, 'cause it seems to be standing up to Anubis.

  • I thought that too, but now I don't think it's Osiris, because the Monster is more likely represented as submissive to Anubis, not standing up to him. But who knows, that's what I think :) And the god could be Seth, instead.

  • Hm, okay. I guess the mural is ambiguous enough, such that it could be anything at this point. You're making me wanna research this. :D

  • This is the most moving scene in Lost that I have seen yet. Ben has always been sneaky, but now I really know he has a big heart after seeing this episode. Kind of makes you wonder what Richard Alpert meant that Ben would never be the same. That he would lose his innocence. I'm very anxious to see where this goes.

  • best episode so far!

we see where the monster comes out from but not where it is, whats beyond those hole things?

and jacob, we gonna see him again?

  • Probably caverns that spread out to the different places on the island.

  • yes but dus it just sit underground till some1 summons it or it is woken, whats down there!

i bet we will never no

  • So, by the way, Juliet was briefly judged too in "Left Behind"?

  • So Mr Eko was judged by it too? but not forgiven so the smoke monster killed him?

  • Yeah. Ben was spared because he acknowledged that his daughter's death was his fault, and he apologised. The monster killed Eko because he didn't repent. "I killed a man to save my brother's life. I am not sorry for this; I am proud of this."

  • That seems to be an effective way of getting emotions out of people.

  • I think ben is a reencarnation of anubis :)

  • so that means the smoke monster forgave ben but not echo then dont it

  • Mr. Eko was killed because he wasn't sorry for anything that he had done. He thought everything he did was the right thing to survive

  • This.

  • ben's more important to the island and the show then eko was. so thats why it let him live

and cause the smoke monster saved ben from dying so he thinks ben should stay a little bit longer so him saving him wouldnt be a waste.

ill admit i cried i like ben and i felt for him.

that was such as sad scene

  • yeah this was my favorite episode out of the season so far...Ben rocks!!

  • My film is better because it shows all this scene inclusion with Ben's and John's talk! I invite to watching. You'll find it in my channel :)

  • i love you bennnn

  • I cried when ben see his daughter T-T

  • IMO the monster killed eko cuz it felt eko's purpose was over & killing him was allowing him to rest in piece rather than still living on that rechid island, just a theory.

  • he was killed because he wanted off of the show lol..

  • yeah :D

  • wayyyyyyyy more sad than Charlie's death.

  • i almost cried during this part! lol i mean it was really hard for ben. michael deserves an emmy for this!!!!! so sad! anyway he didn't kill alex on purpose!!!

  • lol the smoke monster actully called him a basterd

  • Ben has a soft side for childeren. As we see he was about to kill penny but when he saw charlie he stopped

  • Is It Just Me or is Alex The Only Thing That Could Make Ben Soft.

  • woh its such confuzing i wana uh so confusing it comes out of holes? whats under the holes?

  • that was such a touching scene...I was shortly before crying. and actually I never felt sorry for ben before but now I really do.

  • the smoke monster killed Eko because the actor didn't like working in Hawaii for some reason...he was supposed to be as pivotal a character as Locke.

I'm wondering myself why the smoke monster looks different over all the seasons. it seems to be graying a bit compared to what it used to look like, and it was more transparent when Daniel Rossaux(SP) and her team encountered it

  • man thats still doesnt make much sense. eko was a fuckin priest and the monster kills him. and i know triple A wanted to leave the show because of his dislike of hawaii and the fact that his parents just died but they couldve at least just written him off for a while somehow like they did michael

  • well eko wasnt exactly the best preiest ever as i would say lol he did kill and steal

  • Eko was a drug dealer under the cover of a priest. It was a con.

  • so he was serious about his role while he was on the island. what? that doesnt give him extra points? XD

  • maybe they just saw an opportunity to reveal more on the smoke monster. i think they were planing an different scene originally between him and smoke monster, something similar but they decided to take it in another direction. i agree though, it was a shitty way to kill him off. he was one of my favorite characters. overall i think the writers do get a bit carried away with killing off characters

  • seriously -_-

  • man what the fuck?! ok ok hold up! smokey lets linus live but it just mercilessly kills eko who wasnt even a bad person anymore?! that is bull shit!!! i mean i think ben is cool and all but that makes no god damn sense! does anyone else see the lack of logic here?!

  • I think Smokey let Ben live because he actually expressed regret over his contribution to Alex's death. Eko however, when confronted by his brother Yemi, expressed very little if any regret over his contribution to Yemi's death hence why Smokey killed him.

  • Yeah, well.

I think the monster doesnt (almost) kill on first sight. It examines people and then it kills.

Maybe Locke is so important to the Island that the monster hat to imprint it´s message in Bens mind and make him help John to become their leader or something.

    Just my 2cents.

  • Ben is hell of alot more important to the island than eko was though. He was leader of the Others for over 15 years and devoted his life to the island, he's still neeeded which is why smokey allowed him to live.

Smokey wants him to help guide Locke which is why it warned him that he'd be destroyed if he tried to kill locke again.

Also Ben was actually remorseful over what he'd done, Eko wasnt which is why Smokey decided he deserved to die.

  • Smokie owned Ben

  • this made me a little sad too, but at least ben gets to live, even as john's little man servant. lol ^^ gotta suck to have to do whatever some guy says that you don't really like.

  • Theres absoloutely no way ben will end up as Locke's 'man-servant'. He's far more intelligent than Locke so he'll do what he says but will probably be manipulating the hell out of him at the same time. Ben knows exactly what buttons to push when it comes to locke.

  • I don't think we're dealing with the same Locke here. The same tricks won't work on him anymore. He's no longer "Lost"

  • I feel sad (in a loser sort of way) for saying this, but this scene pretty much broke my heart especially 1:11 to 1:23

    =(

  • @2:24

Alex: You are planning to kill ______

    who???

Who's name did ame alex mentioned????

  • she said John Locke

  • I think she said "I know you're already planning to kill John again"

  • she said john again

  • OMGYAAAYYY!!!!

  • This. Is. Epic.

It's amazing to see he actually has emotion and isn't the cold bastard you think he is. Great episode and conclusion to it!
