They're both offensive genii, but you don't need that type of a coach to put together a good defense. The Irish need a creative head coach who can put together a great defence from a not so great defensive recruiting class. That's why I would love to see Patterson come to South Bend. He took a high school RB and turned him into the next Demarcus Ware

Mr. Patterson is a very good option but I dont think he would want to leave TCU. But maybe he would cause after this season (bearing the BCS bowl game) going undefeated he has nowhere to go but down at TCU.

He's done better than ND with less talent and weaker recruiting. He has nothing more to strive for than a national championship, and he can't get that with a name like TCU. ND would give him a great opportunity, especially while its name still means something in terms of recruiting.

I have nothing personal against LH and actually think his speeches are motivational. That he made the mistake of his life, IMHO, in coaching that little Catholic girls school in Indiana is one thing. Saying he's a better coach than Pete Carroll is something different. In ten years time, Pete's star shone much more brightly than Holtz's ever did.
